Well, it started as a Fighter Archetype that replaced bravery, weapon and armor training with bonuses to combat manuevers. It then grew into an entire class as I started tinkering with different ideas for things.
They get proficiency with all simple weapons, and one other weapon of choice that has a special descriptor related to a Combat manuever, ie tripping, disarm etc. Light and medium armor proficiency. 3/4 BAB, fort and ref saves good, will bad. Bonus feats, all pretaining to combat manuevers.

There is no animal in mind for it. It is not just about deflecting them, but also about being really good at them.
A 20th level PC of this class (with the right build), could probably trip the Tarsque.
And one of my buddies suggested specialist, it just seemed to vague. But I do want to stick with the one word class name.
"Regulator" was also suggested, and I have been leaning towards that, even thought it gives me flashbacks to Young Guns.

I'll second Blueluck's suggestion. Gladiator is a great name. Especially if you throw in a few bonuses related to performance combat on top of the other stuff the class gets.
