UC: Don't get the bullet crafting costs for Gunslingers

3 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

I put this in the rules section, but it appears I can't get an answer. So maybe it's not a rules thing, but a general discussion.

A player would like to make cold iron pellets for his Gunslinger since they're coming across more fey as of late. I'd love to help him, but only bullets made out of adamantine and silver are listed.

So, can it be done? Is it the same as how it works in the core rules that it'd just cost double the amount? In essence a single cold iron bullet should be 2 gold? It looks like that for adamantine. It's 1 gold for the base bullet plus 60 for being adamantine. However, silver's not like that. Any ammunition made in silver is supposed to be +2. Therefore it should be 3 gold, but instead it's 25. How does that work? It's quite the jump. Is a mithral bullet 501 gold? Maybe 101 gold? Is the silver bullet a typo?

How does one figure out the ruling for bullet costs when it comes to different kinds of metals? There's PF splatbook ones that can cost you +1500 to put on a melee weapon, but it doesn't mention ammunition at all.

Will there be a web enhancement or supplement to help offset this?

Iron is really really cheap and almost as easy to work as lead so the cost for cold iron ammo should be the same as regular ammo.

Theoretically that would make sense. However, I'm a little hung up on the fact that a silver bullet costs 25 gold and not 3 gold. It just sort of bugs me to the point that I'm finding myself not as confident about how things should be.

Re-read the rules for crafting ammo, Gunslingers can craft bullets, pellets, and black powder for a cost in raw materials equal to 10% of the price.

Cold iron weapons cost 2 times normal so if your gunslinger crafted his own cold irom ammo it would cost 2gp per bullet.

On the other hand silver plating a bullet adds +2gp per bullet so silver plating bullets you crafted yourself would only cost 3gp per bullet.

I know that they only pay 10% of the cost, but the listed prices aren't for the gunslinger, but the standard price for everyone else. An adamantine arrows costs +60g. An adamantine bullet costs +60. This holds true to the core rules. Now look at silver. A silver arrow costs +2g. A silver bullet costs 25. Where'd that number come from? Or is that the silver bullet is actually silversheen and not alchemical silver? That'd make sense. At least it would if not for the part where it says it does -1 damage.

Maybe it's not just silver plated, but massive silver? That would obviousy be more expensive?

Not sure why they couldn't just use a normal bullet and put a bit of silver around it, seems to work for the other weapons.

See? It's kind of confusing.

Hoping that James or Jason put a post on here we can all get an official statement. I can't believe this was never brought up during the playtest that people might actually want to know prices, and question the prices that are already out there.

Its probably a typo as the cost for silver should be 3gp.

Exactly. Hence why I'm wondering why it's so much of a difference. Unless somehow it ended up being written as 2.5 and someone in editing thought the decimal needed to be removed.

But if it's a typo, it's an expensive one.

It's either that or the merchants are cashing in on a lycanthrope scare.
