Drow Noble Ninja

Advice

So, my brother-in-law has decided he wants to run a drow noble campaign, tells us to roll stats three ways and take the best set, and gives us the Heirloom Weapon trait. (Has this been nerfed? It seems the version on d20pfsrd doesn't jive with my adventurer's armory book.)

At first, I was going to run a caster, but it looks like we already have a sorcerer and an alchemist, so I think I want to go ninja.

I am taking a wakizashi for the heirloom weapon, and Weapon Finesse for my first feat. I figure I'll use my 2nd level ninja trick to pick up two-weapon fighting, and get another wakizashi.

So far, I haven't had the opportunity to sift through all the new options between Ultimate Combat and Ultimate Magic. Honestly, I haven't even gotten that familiar with the APG content yet.

Also, a few questions about all the spells I get as racial powers: Does the armor arcane spell failure chance affect those spells? What ability modifier do I use to calculate my spell save DCs?

Here is the link to my dude

Heirloom weapon did indeed get its most deserved nerf.

I dont recall Drow being in eastern lore. I also dont recall too many elvish anything with eastern lore.

/yawn. Yet another metagamer.

Ninjas have no place in a D&D type setting that is built after Tolkiens Lord of the Rings. Was a waste of print and metagaming for Pathfinder to even put them in the books.

What, Im sure you are only taking the +1 CR hit along with it for Drow Noble right?

The spells you get as racial powers fall under the rule for spell-like abilities (Sp), (Sp) do not use arcane failure. its all one page 221 of the core book.

Most creatures use their Charisma for spell-like abilities.

Yawn. Yet another nerd too nerd-stuck up to just have fun.

Go be a drow ninja my friend. You ninja the s!@t outta that drow.

And to actually be helpful (looking at u Mr. the black) no, there's no armor penalty and it's Charisma.

Meh, the ninja right now is just a more "supernatural" rogue archetype. Elves of any skin color are supernatural, so it's quite possible that they have some "uber" assassins that are represented by the ninja class. Sure, I'd prefer a rogue/sorcerer/arcane trickster, but that combination would kinda... well, suck, to be quite honest.

And speaking of Lord of the Rings, I'm pretty sure there weren't any drow there, does that mean we should ban them from a "regular" fantasy?

Haha, it's all quite funny really.

I don't normally do this sort of thing, but the guy who is running this is a big powergamer, and has always annoyed me with it, so I'm out to show him how it's really done! (That's my goal anyways)

And Taason, drow aren't in eastern lore BECAUSE THEY'RE PRETEND. Further, some of us find Tolkienesque settings the yawnsville of make-believe land. (Although in fairness, this drow thing isn't quite the pinnacle of creativity either.)

Anyways, thanks to those who answered my questions. This guy is going to be a bit ridiculous I think, but it should be fun. Once I get level 2, two-weapon fighting, and am dual-wielding wakazashis and flying around the battlemat with my ki pool in my hand, it's gonna be on!

Updated sheet HERE if you care to see.

Looks like a cool character. Hope you have fun with him... (You also gave me a nice idea for a future NPC. *evil GM grin*

As for Blackie, Golarion is hardly 'built after Tolkiens Lord of the Rings'. Is LotR an influence? Sure, but there are a whole slew of influences that probably register higher than the good Professor. But why let reality have any kind of influence on your trolling? I mean, where's the fun in that?

Dark Adept maybe?

Can't really do bad with a Drow Noble. IIRC, it's the only race that the devs now think they should've had Leval Adjustment for.

Oh, we're terribly sorry, we weren't aware that you were THAT Taason the Black, Supreme Arbitrator Of All That Is Goodrightfun! Appointed by God himself to make sure nobody has an original thought.

But it's good you're here. Those liberals were getting the upper hand. They were actually having fun. Can you imagine that?

In other words: Get off your high horse, especially since you not only sound arrogant, but also more clueless than Alicia Silverstone in a certain film from 95.

Oooh! That's bad. So, historically, no elf ever became a ninja?

Wow! In a game that has Paladins (Karolus Magnus's champions) can fight hydras (there only ever was one Hydra, and that was a monster from Greek mythology), where rangers (something that's clearly inspired from Tolkien's stuff) walk around with sorcerers (which are like nothing ever seen in Tolkien material, especially if they're blasters), where the weapons and armours are a mix of stuff that never saw use together, where druids (a concept taken from the Celts) adventure together with monks (Shaolin, not Franciscan) and fight both orcs (straight from Tolkien) and Oni (Estern critters), you get bent out of shape over a drow ninja?

You can do two things here: Either realise that the game is filled to the brim with things that never got together in "real" mythology; or commit hara-kiri in protest over the fact that the pristine Eastern culture you seem to care about has been defiled so vilely. Or, if you don't care for the Eastern stuff, you can instead shoot yourself over this.

Yawn. Yet another clueless elitist.

If that were true (and it's not), most of the things that have been in D&D for decades would not fit.

But Pathfinder (and D&D before it) is for people who aren't OC about keeping things in their pigeon holes.

Cool, we're using the pre-nerf Heirloom Weapon trait, as I suspected, and I also get to choose another trait. So let me put it bluntly, what's the most broken one I can get? :)

I'm also going to ask if he'll just let me make a katana finessable. He'll probably do it. Just thinking about all this cheese is kinda fun.

Falcata.

Or Urumi.

Or a revolver.

He gave me a mithral falcata and is letting me use weapon finesse with it. I'm speechless.

I'm thinking killer for the trait. Is it any good?

Since you'll be trying to flank anyway, Dirty Fighter is pretty good.

If you are starting at lvl 1, a good trait (which I'm not sure if it's still allowed) is Rich parents. +900gp to begin with will net you a lot of MW quality items (weapons, armor, tools) and since you have poison immunity, you can probably get a few of those to take enemies out easily
