Starting gold for gunslinger (175) and samurai (105) switched?

Rules Questions

Just wondering if the starting gold was correct. Gunslinger is 175 and Samurai is 105. My gut is that those values are backwards. Cavalier (and other heavy armor classes) are 175. Gunslinger is a light armor class, so 175 seems a bit off for them too.

Is this correct? I see there is no FAQ for UC yet.

Thanks.

Captain Picard has good advice: Make it so.

Important thing to remember: Gunslinger was originally a Fighter Alternate class, and then would have used Fighter starting funds. This probably got grandfathered in.

Not that its innapropriate: bullets, even with Gunsmithing, are not cheap. A gunslinger could easily spend most of his starting money on ammo.

As to Samurai possibly being a bit light on the money front, that's possible. It could also be intentional; they dont have to pay for their mount, after all.

Krispy has some really good points.

It costs the Gunslinger at least 1gp and 1 sp for every shot (for black powder and a bullet).

50gp gets a gunslinger 45 shots (of bullet and gunpowder, 41 paper alchemical cartridges). An archer, on the otherhand, can 1000 arrows for the same price, which is enough for more than a few levels of adventuring. The Gunslinger has to get a Gunsmith's kit (15gp) so he can make his guns and ammo and a powder horn (3gp) for every 10 doses of black powder he wants to have on hand.

Gunslinger is a really expensive class to play.

And that's assuming you make them if you pay full price for starting gear your even more broke

Seems like this is a strong argument that crafting is meant to bypass WBL. Unless the gunslinger is really meant to have maybe 10 shots for all of first level.

No it means he has about 5 shots until he gets in game time to craft.

So why can't he craft them before hand?

Because the rules don't allow a nonexisent character to roll dice. If i am starting at bare level 1 with starting gold then i am fairly recently into my skills.

Not saying this is right but if the gunslinger can then everyone can so then everyone who was smart enough to get crafting stuff gets double money effectivly for magic gear and triple for mundane (assuming that i can prove my chaacter couldn't fail the rolls).

3 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

This is going down a different path than I intended. My real question is, why does a Cavalier start with 175gp and a Samurai start with 105gp? I'd expect them to be the same. I think Samurai is incorrect, so I'm looking for someone to confirm that.
