Do you consider mid-90s entertainment to be 'recent entertainment'? That's all I was referring to.
Absolutely.

I was clarifying since Zero has much more recent usage in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion(2006), than what I originally referenced, Mega Man X(1993).
Stuntman Mike: "Do you know any of these shows or people I'm talking about??"
College Girl: (Shakes head numbly, with deer-in-headlights look.)

You probably wouldn't care for Code Geass. Giant robots, psychic powers, ridiculous Xanatos Gambits.

When talking about Michael Mann's version of Last of the Mohicans, for example, I still ask "You mean the new one?" for clarification.
I still think of Nirvana as "that newfangled Grunge stuff."
Hell, I still think of the Violent Femmes when I hear the word "alternative."
I was talking to a student of mine once, and the topic of Nirvana came up. He responded by saying "I don't listen to classic rock"...
...that was almost 8 years ago. I think I died a little inside...

As did I when that sad little band got so much air play.

You'll appreciate this one, then: not too many years before your incident, I found the students all gathered around the phonograph record player in my classroom. One of them said, "I know what this is! It's a musical instrument! It makes a noise like 'Woo-woo-woo!'"
When I finally explained what it actually used to do, one of the more engineering-oriented girls asked me if the arm is where the laser comes out.

At the time, those would've been fighting words. But I stopped listening to them somewhere around 1997 and no longer feel the appeal for that style of music anyway.
But then again, I'll sip the Hateraid and start fights while talking about the untouchables: Beatles... Hendrix... Elvis...
And who the hell are these kids, voting Korn as band of the Millenium?!?
Ok, it was ten years ago, they aren't kids anymore, but still...
oh man do I hate Korn...

yeah when Cobain died, after the second attempt, the local highschool, where my son now goes, sent the students home, feeling that it was too emotional for them. I was in shock, not that he died, he already tried once, but rather because it was such a big deal. Yeah the radio played their songs nonstop, but I for one, while I did not mind "grunge" per se, couldn't stand them, still can't.
now I did see one girl "very upset" it was a great afternoon and she got to play at the park.
Much different then when I remember Elvis passing. Everyone cried. It was the first time I can remember my mother having big crocodile tears.

Now, I liked Nirvana, but I'll add a tale about Cobain's death:
The local rock stations, of course, were playing Nirvana 24/7 and taking phone calls from bereaved fans. One woman/girl called up, got on the air live and recited the worst poem (an original composition, of course) that has ever been heard by human ears. It ended thusly (paraphrased from memory):
"And though I'll cry
Every time I hear it,
I will always remember
'Smells Like Teen Spirit'"

Records have the best sound, in my experience. It's a shame other music storage platforms don't do more with high-definition.
