Hello, everyone! Congratulations for being selected for this adventure. If you haven't already, please complete your character sheets using the character creation criteria below. Please complete this by end of day Monday, so we can start the adventure on Tuesday. If this is going to be difficult, just let me know.

Character Creation
1) 20-Point Buy, 1st Level

2) Core races and Published Core Sources only (Core, APG, UM)

3) Two traits. It is not necessary to pick one from the campaign traits.

4) No evil characters.

5) Max HP at first level (roll thereafter).

6) Average starting gold

7) No words of power

I'll go ahead and set up the game thread in a moment, so you can continue with your RP'ing until the action kicks off.

A quick question for input before getting started: Are you ok with my rolling initiative for the group, rather than individually? I've found that for PBPs, this speeds things up a bit. However, if one of you are pumping your Initiative modifier, that takes some of the power out of your hands. What do you think?

I'm looking forward to getting started!

Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1

I'm pretty easy going, you can roll initiatives for us. If we sense combat starting, or we're the one starting it, should we just roll?

Also, my profile should be complete. Just click on my name 8)

(Male Wizard(Spellbinder) 4, Hp: 20/20, AC 12(16w/MA), T:12, FF:10, F+1, R+3, W+4)

I'm here! You can all relax now lol jk.

Male Human (Taldan) Paladin 3 (hp 31/31; AC 18, t 11, ff 17; Fort +7/ Ref +4/ Will +6; Init +1; Per +2)

I'm okay with the GM rolling initiatives, if that's how you want it.

I readjusted the equipment list to reflect Vors' new wealth level. Oh, and one of the traits I took was one of JJ's traits for his Sandpoint campaign (Favored Son) out of the APG. I just wanted to check and see if that's okay. The Sheriff would be the NPC in question where the feat is concerned.

I'm here. I'll get my PC Alias, avatar and full stats/bio etc going. Thanks. Honored to be among such great company!

GM initiative sounds great to me.

Question: Is the Player Companion: Halflings of Golarion ok to use in this game? The sling and ale rules is what I was interest me.

Thanks!

Halfling Rogue

Hello, all! My profile has a link to my completed sheet. I'll add the fluff later today. I'm very glad to be here, gentlemen.

I'm not going to lie - that was an incredibly difficult decision. I'm sure there will be some arm-chair quarterbacking happening - which I understand.

Just so everyone knows what's up, my SS game may be in flux with one of the players. Should he not return, Ivellios will take his place. I will then go back to the recruitment thread and grab one of the applicants, if they're willing.

Thanks again for applying everyone. This will be great!

Just curious, who might you grab if Ivellios joins SS?

The lovely, red-headed magus.

Re initiative: I have no problems with the boss rolling for the group, old school style :)
In that case, could I switch out improved initiative for alertness?

You can make any and all switches you like before the game begins. Even then I'm not super strict and am ok with retconning something fun for your character.

Also, along those lines, once UC comes out, I'm fine with taking some of the interesting features in that book and applying them to your characters. We'll probably want to wait until a level up, but I'm pretty flexible.

Just FYI. Monday is 4th of July Holiday. Three day weekend, people out doing stuff etc. Not sure if everyone is located in the USA. I just mention it because start day post may be a bit slow in light of that. I personally should be able to get out a few postings.

Yeah, we won't really kick things off until Tuesday evening. Until then, it can primarily just be character development and get-to-know-you type stuff. Not like you need it after all that recruitment banter.

Very cool. Either way, I'm super excited to start. I will be around this weekend so I am available to post pretty much whenever.

Also, did I miss the game thread? I don't see it anywhere.

Here's the official game thread. Feel free to go ahead and interact with one another there.

Just wanted to mention that my posting on weekends may be sporadic, and will be virtually non-existent on Sundays (my regular game day). Feel free to put Vors into NPC mode to move things along if needs be. If you'd like me to work up a sketch of how I intend to run him tactically, just let me know.

Sorry. I just saw your questions.

Iron-Dice wrote:

I don't think that will be a problem, but I don't have those books (are they books?), so can you link to anything in the PRD or something?

That's great, actually. We'll need to limit how often you can leverage your powers over the citizens, but I'm not too worried about that yet.

I dont think they are included in the PRD.

Here's a link to the Paizo page
I could gift you a PDF if you think it's alright. I'm at work now, so tomorrow I'll post a general feel for what the unique Halflings traits are and we'll go from there.

Male Human Cleric 1

I am totally fine with the Gm rolling init, it does tend to make things way smoother.

Ok, I'm reviewing your character sheets and will probably have some questions. We'll start with Tosh.

1. How much does the Ioun Torch cost or where did you get it?
2. Where/what is the spring-loaded wrist sheath and how much does it cost?
3. Did you know you don't have any ammunition listed for your crossbow?
4. I get -1 on some of your skill checks, too, but I don't know why. Do you?

Vors:
Where did you spend your favored class bonus?

Vestad, what domains are you choosing?

Glory (Heroism) and Fire unless someone has a better suggestion. I want to keep fire, but the other one is flexible.

Hmm, looks like I forgot to place it. I'll go ahead and add an extra skill point.

1. 75 gp from the APG

2. 5 gp from Adventurer's Armory
3. I did not catch that. I'll add it thank you.
4. Armor Check Penalty?

I added 15 bolts. That leaves me with 43 gp. Although, I'm sure I spent at least 3 in the Rusty Dragon so I'll take it down to 35gp just to be safe. Let me know if I need to change anything.

I'll wait until we know what's happening with Ivellios before making a suggestion.

Male Halfling Rogue; 2

Added a stat block to my profile.

I used a couple of things from the Adventures Armory and Player Companion: Halflings of Golation. Let me know if those are kosher.

Tactfoot, what halfling traits are you taking other than fearless and lettered? Surefooted, maybe? And what does lettered replace?

What does Halfling Slinger do?

Hey GM_Todd. Halfling slinger is:

Halfling Slinger (Combat)
You have honed your racial talent for slingcraft.
Prerequisite: Halfling.
Benefit: You gain a +1 racial bonus on attack rolls made
using a sling.

*reference - Halflings of Golarion

Hope you don't mind. I have many of the Companion Books, so if you have any questions, I can help.

I see Ash beat me to one answer. Thanks!

All the Halfling racial abilities should be calculated into the mix. For some reason Hero Labs is not listing them on the stat block, but it's in the calculations.
Fearless
Halfling Luck
Keen Senses
Sure-Footed
Weapon Familiarity (Sling)

Feats:
Halfling Slinger
Armor Prof
Rogue Weapons
Simple Weapons

Traits
Augumented Disguise
Lettered

I can replace the Lettered with something more Halfling specific if you like. My thought was it would come in handy for various language challenges. Especially with the no false conclusions aspect.

I'm also going to ad a bull whip even though I don't have proficiency (yet). Just foreshadowing a possible future :-)

Hey everyone - there is a shift in the line up. Ivellios will be leaving us, and if she's interested, Viorela (the magus) will be joining us.

I'll let you know shortly if that's incorrect, but hopefully, she'll pop in the OOC or game thread to say hello.

We'll get things kicked off tomorrow or Wednesday. Sound good?

Thanks for your patience everyone. And if you celebrate it, I hope you're having an awesome 4th of July weekend.

F Varisian/Chelaxian Magus 1D

Thanks for extending an invite to Viorela.

I'll finish up her crunch today.

What ethnicity is Kendra? I presume my connection as her niece is not too presumptuous? If she's Varisian I'd be full Varisian. If she's Chelaxian, I'd be a mutt.

Welcome!

I'm pretty sure Kendra is Varisian. Anyone have any info to inform otherwise?

(Male Wizard(Spellbinder) 4, Hp: 20/20, AC 12(16w/MA), T:12, FF:10, F+1, R+3, W+4)

It's been a blast playing with you guys and good luck Viorela!

I deciding between taking the Theologian archetype for Fire. I would lose some domain buffs but be a much deeper blaster. Thoughts?

I really like the Theologian archetype - it has some good RP feel in becoming more zealous.

Although, I've seen Touch of Glory used for some great RP if that was the other option.

Mechanically it's only +1 damage to your Firebolt for the first 4 levels. Swift heroism for a 6-member party is very nice, so it might even be a wash at mid-to-high levels, too.

Are you willing to pick up the healing/buffing slack then, Viorela?

Male Halfling Rogue; 2

Welcome Viorela! I get a strong Red Sonja vibe form your RP. I'm talking about the well scripted comics and Robert E. Howard sources, not the stereotypical chick with a sword a lot of people associate. I'm not sure if that character is part of your inspiration, but either way I look forward to seeing the reaction some poor unsuspecting saps when you get good and fired up. I pity them!

Actually as the Deverin were one of the founding families, they are Chelaxian in descent. Though it is possible that she may have a little Varisian in her past, though not enough to affect her looks. (Red head, with pale skin. Very typical Chelaxian look.)

GM_Todd wrote:

I can see picking up a Healing Hex at 2nd level, with the Hexcrafter archetype if we seem to be needing it. Although I'd wager there's not a tremendous amount of slack with both a Bard and Cleric.

I didn't consciously draw from the comic version of Red Sonja, for a change of pace I went through the avatars and picked a picture to start a character versus working the other way around.

And, I'll go with a mixed ethnicity of Varisian/Chelaxian then - Varisia's father having been Chelaxian and her mother being a full Varisian.

Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1

Welcome Viorela! Now Tosh can get all embarrassed when he fails at the cool things he'll try to do. 8)

male Human (Chelaxian/Ulfen) Ranger 1A

Take care, Ivellios! Sorry to see you go!

However...

Welcome, Viorela! Very glad to have you with us, I've been wanting to see a magus in play for a while. Plus wait until the Borhald finds out the woman he keeps calling lass is the major's niece... LOL!

F Varisian/Chelaxian Magus 1D

Thanks for freeing up a spot, Ivellios - have fun in the deep, dark jungles.

I'm thinking at this point, Viorela has left the inn for the night, so the next time you'd see her would be the next day. I actually suspect she will attend The Swallowtail Festival unarmed and in a lovely sundress.

She will, of course, have offensive spells prepared, and be ready to pick up improvised bakeware should any problems arise during the happy celebration.

On Magus, I have yet to see one played at all - PbP or tabletop. I know more than half of the Magus I see rolled up in PbP's I'm not in use the Dervish Dance feat, dump Str and pump Dex -- but I'm a little leery about pursuing that particular build. I think I'll select Longsword or Rapier and actually deal with the MAD problems that many report the class experiences. It's a shame, as I'd obviously like Viorela to have a fair Charisma as well.

Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1

Just a heads up for everyone: I just bought my first house! As such, I will be moving over the next week or two. I will still have access to my laptop and I can sometimes post at work. That said, I may be a little less frequent in posting. I will definitely get in one post per day and will strive for more. Just thought ya'll ought to know.

Tosh's stats might work well for you then Viorela. Maybe tweak them a bit, but they should work OK.

Edit: Never mind, you'll probably need more INT than my build would allow.

Just a note about my posts. They are all subject to veto by GM_Todd, but he has asked if I would be willing to help him with some assistant GM duties. As I am currently deep in running my version of Rise of the Runelords myself, I will be helping him with some uncertainties that may need some clarification.

Just didn't want you guys to think that I was some "know-it-all" putting my advice in where it was not wanted. ^_^

Have fun guys!

EDIT: By the way, congrats on your big purchase!

F Varisian/Chelaxian Magus 1D

Thanks for offering the stat-line, yeah I will hopefully be less MAD than Tosh is.

Also, congrats on the new home! - I remember what an exhausting experience that first move is, and the endless shopping that follows.

Welcome to the assistant GM, too.

As I'm filling out Viorela, I took notes on what the current party provides to see if there were any obvious areas to focus on for complimenting.

Everyone feel free to check my notes, and if GMT or Ash find this helpful, it's an easy copy-paste.

F Varisian/Chelaxian Magus 1D

First question.

Going through the Rise of the Runelords player's guide, it says this about the feats within:

"Subject to your GM’s approval, you may choose any of the following feats as a bonus feat during character creation."

I see Vors picked up 2 non-campaign traits, and used one his regular feat slots to pick up Country Born. He's the only PC to use one of these.

I'm planning on the Varisian Tattoo option for Viorela, I just need to know how to "pay for it".

Options:
a) It costs a non-bonus feat (the first level or human feat), and we get the usual 2 traits

b) It can be taken as a bonus feat on top of 2 traits

c) Instead of one trait, it can be chosen in it's place. The character still gets 1 non-campaign trait to select.

d) Instead of both traits, it can be chosen in their place

Great question. I didn't realize it was worded that way.

You can one of the listed feats as a bonus feat. So, everyone can add one of the feats to their character - Vors, you can add one additional non-campaign feat since you've selected one of the bonus ones already.

Make sense?

I'm about to post the intro to the game so head on over when you have a moment.
