Maybe it should be RTTTOEE..
Would anyone be interested in playing my updated version of Return To The Temple Of Elemental Evil?
I've been watching the boards for a while and feel my first pbp game should involve something I have some experience running.
Would be PF 1st level to start 25 point - looking to go for the long haul and with characters of any non-evil alignment using rules from only the PF core book.
EDIT - 5 players max and with Greyhawk deities for simplicity

Aye sorry mate I generally keep to very basic stuff cause it's all I have in print.
Oh, understandable, I'd take the same position if that's all I had in print. I'm just the "guy that almost always DM's" so when I have the opportunity to play my brain kinda blows up with all of the cool options that have been coming out that I don't get to use, haha.
As it is, I'm workin' on two ideas: a Bard and a Transmuter/Ranger Arcane Archer. I'll see which one I like best when they're done.

A couple of items, first: What is our starting gold? Max? Average? The stat block I am presenting is without gear (though you can assume she has a Longbow, at least). I will add after we determine starting gold.
Also I have some general fluff ideas, but I'm not terribly familiar with Greyhawk and don't know how you intend to "start us off" storytelling-wise (do we know each other? Are we all just sitting in the same bar when the curtain comes up?). I can provide background later, as well. I'm perfectly willing to study up on Greyhawk. Is there a good website for info?
Here she is:

I haven't decided on my favored class yet, so her HP may go up by one in the near future.
Also, some people have mentioned the possibility this starts at level 4, in which cas she's a Fighter2/Transmuter2.

We will be starting at first level I adapted an added some other adventures to make things campaign-worthy from first level. I will look over what we have so far. You will each have to try to submit by tomorrow night, there seem to be seven applicants and only room for five, I hate to turn people away but I'm afraid it must be so, so now it will be a race - those five complete characters submitted first will be in.
Let me know if anyone needs any background info on what's going on/the area we will be starting out in. Also if anyone would like to help get the party together to begin with it would be great - travelling companions and whatnots would be a great way to explain why you're all together to begin with, could be locals, relatives, or maybe on business to the church of st cuthbert or pelor, possibly even transporting goods for the construction of a keep outside of the village.
If not we'll just assume you are each adventurers who meet on the road at the inn of the Welcome Wench in the village of Hommlet, which is known to have a past involving battles and monsters in nearby areas, the perfect place for young adventurers to seek their fortunes, or meet a grisly death should they prove unsuited to the lifestyle...
EDIT - subdomains seem just fine by me - use avg starting gold if you haven't already.
No need to study Greyhawk - I don't know much about the setting myself save for a bit of play in the region of this adventure and the big city of Greyhawk itself - the area is fielded and hilly with forests and marshlands within a couple of days' ride from the village, also there is a large city called Verbobonc thirty miles away, which lies on the bank of a trade river, so your character could have come in on a ship to this region from conceivably anywhere.

It does not seem to be letting me edit my post, so here's my full character sheet. (Also, how are you guys making those neat alternate messageboard names/profiles for the characters? Are you just starting new messageboard accounts?)

Ielexia Vilvanderael is in many ways a shining example of the typical Elf. She is smart, swift, deadly with a bow and competent with a blade. She appreciates beauty in both form and function: everything from elegant archetecture to the untouched beauty of a remote glade untouched by civilization. Growing up, she was considered gifted by her instructors, her talent with magic exceeded only by her prodigious archery skills.
She was somewhat different in one key manner: she has become obsessed with human culture and the romanticized life of the adventurer. Minstrels traveling through her Elven homeland brought with them tales heroism and high adventure. Of noble nights slaying fearsome dragons and brave wizards bringing their arcane might to bear on those who would do evil. By the time she had come of age, she had made up her mind.
Months before her arcane studies would be complete and her place in Elven society determined, she stole away from her homeland in the night. Bringing with her the arcane implements of her studying, she resolved to finish her wizardry training her way while on the road.
She wandered for a while, meeting many strange and wonderful new people (mostly humans). Finding herself months later in Verbobonc, she heard of bandit problems out near a small village named Hommelet. Seeing the perfect opportunity for the adventure she craved, she set out for Hommelet the very next day.
Ielexia is a smart, capable, competent Elven woman. Her romanticization of the adventurer's life is perhaps a bit naive, and she is aware of this. She cannot deny the life that calls to her heart, however, and she intends to bring her considerable talents to bear on the world of daring, heroism, and glory.

I don't see a rogue yet. I like playing rogues but I know in some campaigns they don't end up being needed because there aren't very many traps or anything. Will a rogue be necessary/useful here?
It's the Temple of Elemental Evil, so, YES.
There are plenty of moments for a Rogue to shine in the module and, honestly, I'd seriosly consider opening all chests with two 10' poles tied together if we don't have a Rogue.
| Dreaming Warforged |
Since Orannis has got the archery angle taken care of, I'll try and focus on something else.
So far,
Christina Goodfinger - Rogue
Ilexia Vilvanderael - Fighter, going Arcane Archer
Davram Nettles - Fighter and Shinzen Tomaka - Wizard (applications from the same player)
Plus other announcements.
I'll stick with a cleric, but I'll look if I can come up with something more melee...

Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.
Heart of the Wilderness Humans raised in the wild learn the hard way that only the strong survive. They gain a bonus equal to half their character level on Survival checks. They also gain a +5 bonus on Constitution checks to stabilize when dying and add half their character level to their Constitution score when determining the negative hit point total necessary to kill them. This racial trait replaces the skilled racial trait.
Nature Sense (Ex) You gain a +2 bonus on Knowledge (Nature) and Survival skill checks.
Orisons You can prepare a number of orisons, or 0-level spells. These spells are cast like any other spells, but they are not expended when used and may be used again.
Spontaneous Casting You can channel stored spell energy into summoning spells that you haven't prepares ahead of time. You can "lose" any prepared spell in order to cast any Summon Nature's Ally spell of the same spell level or lower
Wild Empathy (Ex) You can improve the attitude of an animal. This abilty functions just like Diplomacy check made to improve the attitude of a person. You roll 1d20+0 to determine the Wild Empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly. To use Wild Empathy, you and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal circumstances. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but as with influencing people, it might take more or less time. You can use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but you take a -4 penalty on the check.

TOEE!!
SO So In!
I have a Halfling Bard-Detective all ready and raring to go. She was in a short PbP that played to conclusion but didn't continue for what the DM felt was a lack of interest from too many of the players.
She's first level and was made for a 20point buy but can easily be adjusted.
Here's Dr. Catila Eyesquint
I'm in three long running games now, one of which has been going for over a year, the other for, (wow! Just checked) about 3 years. So ya, I'm in it for the long haul. ; )
There's just no two ways about it, Dr. Catila Eyesquint has...'Presence'. Though she takes up hardly any space at all, when Catila enters a room, everyone knows it. This feisty, fiery, pint sized detective doesn't miss a tick. Within two heartbeats of entering a bar, for example, she can tell you who is all in there, what they do, where they're from and very likely what they had for breakfast. Everything is a mystery to the quick minded detective and if she has one purpose in life (and, let's face it, she pretty much only has one purpose in life), it is to solve mysteries.
Known as 'Cat' or Squinty to her close friends and family, Dr. Eyesquint to her acquaintances and 'damn that woman' or something similar to her enemies or those she has put behind bars the young halfling has already begun building a reputation far beyond her young years.
Born to a university professor and rather famous tale-spinner, Catila was born with perfect pitch and has been musically inclined all of her life. She was also something of a child prodigy and wrote her first thesis at the tender age of 13. Gaining her doctorate in the relatively new art of 'forensic science' at the unheard of tender age of 17, and with a masters in biology Squinty is a mini engine of activity and cogitation. Although begged by her alma mater to remain at school to pass on her unique skills to others, a classroom was never the place for Dr Squint. For her the world at large was one big mystery and she was intent on solving it all.
Although she is what most would consider to be quite an attractive young halfling, and possessed of a generally happy demeanour, Catila has little to no care or concern whatsoever for her appearance. Although certainly not slovenly, as neatness and detail are very important to her, she is well known for wearing clashing colours and mismatched outfits. Basically she just puts on whatever first comes to hand. Her big bright green eyes never stop moving, as she is always looking everywhere, at everything. And, as well, she an interesting (and sometimes annoying to others) habit of humming, especially when she is thinking hard (which is almost all the time). This habit carries on into her speech and sometimes she actually sings her words, without seeming to realize it. Although she never really took the time to master an instrument she can play a lute passably. Her voice though has been said to 'outmatch the songbirds themselves' and, should she ever so choose, a brilliant career as a singing minstrel or court performer would surely await her. However the small sleuth has little interest in such things and so only uses her voice to aid in her magic making, which in turn is only used to aid in her sleuthing.
Having just recently finally escaped the clutches of those who urged her to stay behind and teach, Catila has, for the past few months, travelled mostly randomly throughout the Varasian frontier, falling into one crazy adventure after another. And so it was quite randomly (or so it seemed, anyway) that the good Dr. found herself in Kaer Maga, 'city of thieves'. Hearing the call for aid put out by the Pharasian clerics, Catila's interest is instantly piqued, for she is sure there is more going on than meets the eye (as, in her experience, there almost always is). Heading for the temple of Pharasma post haste, it is a supremely confidant (but never arrogant) young woman who presents herself at the temple doors with the words
"Dr. Catila Eyesquint at your service! And I am here to solve your dilemma!"

If there's still a slot, I'd like to submit to fill it. I'm working on a dwarven tank build and a elven ranger to see which I like better. Any votes for one over the other? Or something altogether different?
I'm leaning toward the tank, but am working up the elf for sake of completeness. Any recommendations for a favored enemy? I'm only vaguely familiar with Greyhawk as a campaign world -- are there common enemies an elf would have special training against? If not, human is often a strong choice as a favored enemy -- it's not like I'm going to go berserk when I have to speak to one, after all.
| Bondanalloy |
They would have the same favoured enemies as you would assume as Greyhawk is generally the most generic-themed setting.
I've always viewed favoured enemy as simply one that the character has studied and fought well, this does not exclude full on hatred, but people tend to use it this way more often than not. Yes group two is almost complete.

I have always wanted to play through the TOEE so I will probably be presenting something today or tomorrow.
Since I have been generally using the OGC for new characters lately, rather than my actual books, I don't often consider which of the main books things come from anymore. It should be an interesting challenge to go through and stat up a CRB only character.
Khaladon, I think you will need to alter your character somewhat, Bondanalloy has stated that he only wants material from the core rulebook. Looks like all archetypes are out...

Detective isn't core? I don't have any of the books myself yet so I don't know. I just go by the SRD (HERE), which anyone can access, so lack of a book shouldn't be a problem for our DM. That said though, of course if he wishes it to be changed it shall be. I kinda think though that a detective is kinda perfect for TOEE. Don't you? ; )
PS Hey Anivar/Pixie and Black Tom. Wass up?

Hey, Khaladon.
Sorry, archetypes are not core. I suspect you can make a pretty detective-like bard or rogue without the archetype, but I'm sure it would be lacking something. Without some study, I don't know the differences -- and I don't have any books with me here.
I'm hoping you, Black Tom, and I succeed in getting into group two just because it's neat to have a familiar 'face' at the table. I guess you two should be in - I think I'm the one on the bubble.
