I assume they have normal progression until they get to 3rd level, unless I am reading something incorrectly.
It's irrelevant, since whether they gain one point per two levels or one point per three levels, the pool has a minimum of 1. So it's "1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, ..." normally, and "1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, ..." with the archetype.

tesailion is right. As a bladebound magus, you don't get your second point of arcane pool (by virtue of class levels) until level 6.
The modification to your arcane pool affects you for your entire life, even before you 'acquire' the blade itself.
