Many of you may have noticed this as the final page in the Wayfinder #5 PDF, but just in case you didn't:
Pack your gear, grab your boots of the winterlands, and prepare your endure elements spell; it’s time to head North! To the lands where the Ulfen rule, and have ruled for ages! Visit the ancient mead halls, and hear the stories from the great warriors: of great battles with Irrisen’s blue trolls and icy fey; of the savage hunts for the linnorm; of the times of the raiders, plunders of the western coast; of the strange and eerie places where this world meets the First World. Come, pull up a chair by the Great Fire, and tell your tale!
Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Chronicles world of Golarion. Wayfinder #6 will be focusing on the one of the northernmost realms: the Lands of the Linnorm Kings! Please use the Inner Sea World Guide as your main reference (as well as that handy-dandy PathfinderWiki)! In the case of a plethora of articles on similar subjects, preference will be given to articles that follow this theme. As always, crunch, fiction, and flavor articles are welcome! In addition, writers can submit to one of several regular series featured in Wayfinder:
- Advice: Have some advice you want to pass on to new GMs or players to the world of Golarion?
- Bestiary: New creatures to terrorize your PCs with!
- Prestigious: This article is devoted to a new prestige class for the world of Golarion.
- Realm Building: The Kingmaker Adventure Path introduced a lot of new goodies for building armies,
cities and kingdoms. This column is focused on building upon those rules.
- Side Treks: Side Treks feature short outlines for a sidetrek adventure set in a particular region of
Golarion. For Wayfinder #6, this region is the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. One sidetrek outline per submission
for this column. Please reference earlier Wayfinders for the layout for this article. Submission size: 325 words.
- Tales from the Front: Fiction articles based on any of Paizo’s adventure modules or paths.
- Taste of Golarion: We’re continuing collections for The Golarion Cookbook! One recipe per submission for this column.
- Weal or Woe? Two NPCs (including statblocks), one helpful, one not so much. Include hooks for the PCs to know (or hate) this
NPC and how to use them in a campaign. Include a boon (Weal) and drawback (Woe) for the NPCs in your article.
Guidelines
- Thou shalt not disregard canon, thou shalt build upon it.
- Keep in mind thy audience. Keep it PG-13. No slash fic/porn fantasies, cheesecake/beefcake/fan service.
- Short and sweet. Unless otherwise specified, article sizes are 750 and 1,500 words. These are HARD targets, not a range, so
come as close as possible to these targets. Anything over 1,500 words will have to be pre-approved by the Editor-in-Chief.
- Submissions used to defame, harass, or threaten board members are not tolerated.
Submission Instructions
- Conditions for Submissions. All authors and artists must agree to have their works reproduced for this and other Wayfinder
products, be it for translations into other languages (we will be responsible for the truthfulness of the translations), special
publications, or use on a Wayfinder website. All of Wayfinder’s publications are NON-PROFIT, and authors and artists will be
given proper credit where due.
- Send all submissions to: wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com with the subject line containing “Wayfinder #6 Submission”.
- All text submissions submitted in DOC format (doesn’t matter if you use Office or OpenOffice). Do not use fancy fonts or
colors or formatting - these will get stripped out in the editing and layout process. Use the standard body font for the program
you’re using - bold and italics are fine. Note: Files sent in RTF, TXT, DOCX, or any other format than DOC will be rejected.
- Include your name and board name in your submission - example, “Liz ‘Lilith’ Courts”. Your entries will go through editing
passes for clarity and concision. Depending on time constraints, you may or may not receive feedback on the editing process
and your script.
- DEADLINE: September 30, 2011, 11:59 Pacific. All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Some articles
may be rejected depending on the final size of the PDF.
Advertising
- Fan projects operating under Paizo’s Community Use Policy are welcome to advertise their websites and materials.
- Third party publishers wishing to advertise their Pathfinder Roleplaying Game-compatible projects in Wayfinder #6 are
welcome to advertise as well. Space is available for 1/4, 1/2 and full page ads.
- Email wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com for questions about placing an ad. Be sure to include “Wayfinder #6 Advertising” in your
subject line.
- DEADLINE: September 30, 2011

One note about fiction pieces:
Starting with Wayfinder #6, we will be utilizing the Pathfinder Chronicler writing community for more of our fiction articles. Many of the stories featured in #5 were from the Chroniclers, and they had been pretty much polished and cleaned up by the time they hit our inbox. As Editor-in-Chief, I cannot tell you how nice it was to be handed a piece that needed only minor work, if any.
As Wayfinder and Pathfinder Chronicler are both members of the Paizo Fans United group, it makes sense for us to "hitch our wagons together" to provide outlets for fan writers to see their stories published in Wayfinder, and now the Anthology. Plus, we believe that there is an added benefit of running your writing through a supportive community of writers...it makes you a better writer!
This arrangement is in the initial stages right now, which is why the guidelines make no particular mention of it. For Wayfinder #6, our larger stories will be coming from the Pathfinder Chronicler community. For Wayfinder #7, however, it is our plan to have all fiction pieces go through that community.
Just an FYI....

crazy tired depressed rave

Yes, well: That was deliciously poetic, but from the point of view of not melting a hole of pure despair and insanity in the fabric of the messageboards a simple 'Blow it, I really don't think I can write anything meaningful and on-theme' would have done.

I was curious to know if anyone has any suggestions on what they'd like to see for my next article (I call it "Outside the Boxcar," But that title's never made it through the editing. :P)
The two I'm looking at right now are one on alignments and one on encounter scaling. The alignments article is about using them constructively without ticking off your players or your GM. The scaling encounters article seems overly simplistic, but I got asked about it a few times.

Don't know if it would pass word count, but would fiction featuring Ulfen warriors engaged in traditional 'viking' type activities even if not actually set in the Land of the Linnorm Kings possibly pass muster?
Without being too specific, activities such as Ulfen warriors being guards to foreign monarchs, engaged in trading in other ports, fighting pirates over booty on the high seas, etc?

Remember, folks, the deadline is September 30th! Put those fingers to the keyboard, and type up something for us!
I may be hard-pressed to contribute this year, Tim. And that's a bummer for me since I've had something in every issue so far. Unfortunately, deadlines wait for no man. And I need to push forward on more stuff for Paizo first. If I have a bit of time and find my inspiration, it's possible I could toss out a 750-word piece on a new winter-themed monster or something. But no promises, I'm afraid...

Dark Sasha |

Tim,
I started working on something but got distracted. If I can get on it tomorrow and write several paragraphs and format the rest correctly I may have something for you. I can't guarantee it is what you are after. It's something I never tried to write up formally before. It is more along the lines of an advice/article than fiction.

More interested in seeing something about scaling adventures than alignments personally.
Timitius...what are the editors thoughts on new archetypes? Specifically thinking of writing something up for the antipaladin, as there is roughly one archetype for that altclass right now...
I am totally OK with articles on new class options...we have typically had prestige classes, but new archetypes, bloodlines, mysteries, patrons, oaths, spells....and so on...are welcomed!
Keep in mind, we are really trying to unify the issue behind the theme, Lands of the Linnorm Kings. If you can throw some theme-related hooks into what you are writing up, it will really help bring the whole issue together.

Well, folks, we are coming down to the final FIVE days until the end of September...the DEADLINE for Wayfinder #6.
And I am REALLLLLY hoping that you are all working on an article to submit. Because right now, with the submissions that I have received thus far, we'd be lucky to fill half an issue. I'm looking at maybe a dozen submissions.
PLEASE consider writing up an article for Wayfinder #6. Pretty please?

Hey Timitius, do you still have my e-mail adress? If so, shoot me an e-mail ... I have an idea to float past you :)

Dear Mr. Diabolic Headmaster,
No, no, no, no, nooooo. You're doing it wrong. Look at the record of your predecessor, who has now been translated to other things. She flaunted her evil personality. She laughed evilly, and left out plates of cookies to tempt people to the dark side.
You have to constantly fascinate and engage the public. What you should have been doing, little by little, over the past month, was revealing, inch by inch, your latest scheme - that, with Selytiel's assistance (whom you have since double-crossed) you have captured ALL the iconics, and unless you get enough articles by September 30th (midnight your time) you will marry Kyra and sacrifice all the others to Asmodeus by dipping them into vats of boiling wax and turning them into candles.
(Whether or not it's true doesn't matter; this is journalism and if you reveal your evil plans for real, most people are just going to figure you made it up to raise circulation figures.)
Yours cordially,
Ask A Succubus Journalist.
PS
Knitting Monthly are interested in covering your possible forthcoming nuptials; they'd like to know if it's okay to send along some artists to get pictures?
PPS
You need to wax your moustache more, so you can twirl it properly. Whilst chuckling in a suitably sinister manner.

Timitus: it might be a good idea to tell us what kind of articles you "need" or haven't seen much and which ones have been over done....
Fair enough.
I don't need any more Weal or Woe articles.
I don't need any more fiction of the 1500 or 3000 word counts.
I could use a few more short fiction articles (750 word count).
I do need a couple more Side Treks.
I do need more monsters fitting the theme
I do need lots more crunch articles (prestige classes, archetypes, alternate rules, spells, magic items, bloodlines, mysteries, patrons, etc., etc.)
I do need lots more flavor/fluff articles (towns, shops, regions, organizations, festivals, holidays, lesser known dieties, famous NPCs, mini-games, etc.)
I would be especially happy if someone had a Ulfen-themed mini adventure/encounter. This would be unlikely, since it would have had to have been "green-lighted" earlier. Neil Spicer did a fantastic job with taking a Weal or Woe article, and then crafting an mini-adventure using those characters. I'd honestly LIKE to make that a regular feature in Wayfinder....taking a regularly featured article type (Weal or Woe, Side Trek, Registry) and having an additional encounter/adventure using it.
Once again, Spicer raises the bar.... ;-)
Actually, if someone with some proven chops wanted to do this, I would be willing to extend deadline for it to happen. When Neil said he wanted to do it, I was absolutely certain that he could do it. I'd need to feel that way again.

ah well, the weal or woe that I was finishing up can be set aside I suppose.
I'll see if I can put together a fluff piece or two. Perhaps a crunch piece.
And, of course, a "taste of" piece (my mom's family is from Latvia, which has some similar types of dishes to my dad's Norwegian relatives' recipes ... yeah my family has the North and Baltic Seas COVERED! ;) I'll type up a few and send them on).
And I just got an idea for a mini game. Must ... make ... notes!

Well, finish it up anyway...I'm not saying I won't take it, I'm saying I have a good number of them already. I can't take ALL W&W submissions...just the best ones. If you think you have the best one, by all means, send it in.
But, I really do need more of the other categories. :D
And YES! VIKING Recipes are welcome!

Cool, I'll finish it up then.
Just sent in a dice game modeled after the Lands of the Linnorm Kings society. Actually designed for out of game play (or an in game diversion to break from game play), but can be used for flavor as well. 1503 words (could not trim any more ... it was at 1579).
