Pathfinders come from many walks of life, and their Profession skills should reflect that diversity. Some professions might actually be helpful during the adventures we tend to encounter. To start things off, I'd like to suggest...

Sewer Maintenance Engineer An occupation suited for those with strong Fort saves, max ranks in Knowledge (dungeoneering) and the inclination to engage otyughs in friendly banter.
Appropriate Quote: "There's some lovely filth over here!"

Gutter Extortionist When Intimidate is your only social skill, it's good to have a reason why. You can be the sort of person who considers Grandmaster Torch's droogs social climbers.
Appropriate Quote: "Yer gonna talk, or I'm gonna show yer how my Shoanti uncle us'ter clean his earth breaker."

Secret Agent of Taldor!: Do you have high ranks in Bluff, Sarcasm and Sartorial Finery? Do you schedule your conjugal visits with your spouse so as not to have potential schedule conflicts between the birth of your heir and the summer showings at the Opera House? Is your sense of fashion so gobmsackingly impressive that even Andorans wish they were you? Do you managed to make orbiting Ioun Stones look like high fashion, rather than the gauche appurtenances of the merely power-crazed?

Then by all means, take a rank in Profession: Secret Agent of Taldor! It is SO the in thing this season!

Appropriate Quote: "Dalsine. Jacquo Dalsine."

Note from Osirion Intelligence: It has come to our attention that so many people have taken Ranks in this profession that it's become all but impossible to identify real Taldan spies. For such a blatantly stupid idea, it has proven surprisingly effective at providing cover.

Shadow Lodge 2/5

Dungeon Porter - Suited for individuals who don't mind a little hard work. Dungeon porters learn early to keep their head low.

Appropriate Quote: "That's Ok, that ear was just reducing my carrying capacity anyhow."

Sczarni 4/5

Librarian - where else do you find/hide scrolls but in books that only wizards would look at anyway? And you have to know the name of a book with information on beastie X and beastie Y

That one's actually in the Core Rulebook. In fact, my 21st-level elf enchantress has a few ranks in it...along with Profession (courtesan)--go figure.

Profession (courtesan) cries out to be broken down into subtypes:

Profession (Chelaxian courtesan) The perfect reason to carry those fur-lined masterwork manacles and take Exotic Weapon Proficiency (whip).
Appropriate Quote: "I had plans this evening, but I think I can fit you in sometime after midnight."

Profession (Andoran courtesan) Members of this profession find that ranks in Perform (banjo) guarantee them a warm welcome in the Darkmoon Vale region. Unfortunately, the services of Andoran courtesans are often purchased with vegetables or livestock.
Appropriate Quote: "Thet's why they call 'em 'kissin cousins'."

Liberty's Edge 1/5

Family Tutor / Sage Slave

The perfect servent / slave to have so that the unlearned may still get a chance at making a knowledge hystory, geography, local role.

Considering the Pathfinders' tendencies toward mayhem, chaos, and random property damage, the more Society attorneys, the better.

One of my PFS characters DOES have that: Profession: Barrister.

I have even used it in a scenario (Pallid Plague) to threaten some enemies who I failed a normal Intimidate check on.

The other players and the GM just about fell over laughing.

How bout Profession: Barrista?

My two current characters have crafts (weapon smith (he never actually makes anything), and 'chess set maker' for lack of a better name), though my next one, is going to have Profession: Internal Affairs.

Gonna be Grand Lodge faction who is an IA agent for the Decemvirate. ;)

My PFS Cheliaxan Wizard (Conjurer) has Profession (Contract Lawyer). It just seemed appropriate. My hope is to get him high enough to take the Diabolist PrC. We'll see how that goes.

Dark Archive 4/5

I will chime in with profession slaver.

Grand Lodge 5/5 *

Heh, I've got a Chelaxian Fighter with Profession (Lawyer) - it just seems like a Chelaxian kind of profession! I always enjoy describing him performing his day job about town - full-face black helm, spiky black full plate, spiky black gauntlets, small black attache case in one hand..

Also shifting gears from 'rargh I smash in your face with my spiky fists' to 'I also happened to notice that you have detained this man unlawfully under subsection 4 paragraph 2 of the Absalom penal code' is always fun.

Oh, and a friend of mine has a cleric of Zon-Kuthon with Profession (Recreational Torturer). That's recreational for those being tortured, not for him. ;)

Profession(Barbershop Quartet)? Still need to roll Perform(Sing) for the actually performance, but the profession check would allow you to know where to acquire appropriate garb, how to grow and style a lovely moustache, and how to choose/write songs.

Or how about Profession(Hermit)? How to live alone in a cave, grow a great big bushy beard, and talk to yourself. Also good for knowing random bits of information that seem pointless but later turn out to be very important.

Perhaps Profession(Taxidermist) so that the party can have proof of all the hideous monsters they have slain. Or if of a less-than-LG alignment, could stitch together several normal creatures to create brand new and excitingly ugly beasts for the party to claim to have killed.

"I killed it: You clean it."

Actually, one of my PCs (A Varisian Barbarian/Oracle) has Craft (taxidermy). He also has Profession (harrow reader), which qualifies him to predict dire fates for those who irritate him.

Oops, Taxidermy would be a Craft skill wouldn't it. Sorry.

I would love to see a party of Bards played as a Barbershop Quartet though. I think it would be hilarious.

Scarab Sages 1/5

I went with Osirion Scribe. Scribe fit with what the Society is all about. Spent a lot on learning different languages. Before each mod, you'll find him outside his tent, infront of his banner that says "Scribe" but in 8 different languages. He'll be working for someone or tutoring his apprentice.

He has fit in pretty good with the groups but not so much help with the combat though.

Sovereign Court 5/5

My dual Kukri wielding fighter has ranks in profession butcher.

My rogue has ranks in profession calligrapher, cause you know it is always so hard to find someone to sign those legal writs and bank drafts and such, just easier to do it yourself.

Recently had one PC in my game with profession (taxidermist) and the player had printed out business cards - "you snuff it, we stuff it!"

Are the images I've been using for the character.

Perhaps we could ask one of the Paizo Artist bods to whip something up?

;)

We might even get a picture out of it.

In my defence, I've yet to have a GM have a problem with it, as profession rolls are Wisdom, not Strength or Dex check, so the penalty shouldn't apply. As she's a fighter follower of Cayden Cailean and Callistria, so the armour training helps lower the penalty anyway.

Want a job as a bouncer?

Silver Crusade 1/5

Profession: Poledancer.

Do you love the attention of everyone around you?
Do you love the sound of people calling your name in awe and joy?
Are you a gladiator or performer who does not feel alive enough on your chosen stage?

Then come to 'Blazé's happy place', located in the Coins of Absalom! Poledancers always welcome, followers of Cayden Cailean and Callistria most welcome! Chefs, security and bartenders also encouraged to apply.

Poledancing: What the Masterwork 10 foot pole was REALLY invented for!

Blazé's happy place: Possibly the best pub in all Absalom.

Discount on drinks and 'services' for pathfinders, further discount for members of the Andoran faction.

-One of the reasons my mom married my dad was "I know where he is on a friday night...rolling little dice with a bunch of fat men, eating cheese steaks, and killing orcs." And my Mom was a Caravan and Al Stewart fan. They're going on 30 years together. Anybody remember the Complete Strategist in Kinga' Prussia? Dad worked there in college in 77-1980.

-I'm a skinny nerd. My 196cm karate champ brother does the security thing. At a casino.

Sorry - saw this, misread it as 'InFernal Affairs', & immediately thought 'Chelaxian Policeman' or 'Chelaxian Matchmaker'.

Nice choice

Grand Lodge 4/5

Here's some charisma based professions:

Profession: Yes Man.
You stand behind your faction leader and nod knowingly at everything he or she says. When prompted, you chime in with sycophantic agreement, or recant an event that backs up your faction leaders words. Most times, you will need to recant sayings such as "A Wise Choice" or "A Most Informed Decision."
Occasionally you will take the blame for something that your faction leader is wholly responsible for and take the rebuke publicly in a humiliating fashion.

Profession: Siege Goader.
You are trained in the long and honourable tradition of goading enemy armies to attack Absalom's walls. You will need a buttocks of hardened leather, well capable of taking both crossbow bolts and arrows (possibly poisoned). You must be well-rehearsed in knavery and the taunting of knights. Bonus pay to those that can resort to full-frontal nudity to enrage and impassion Absalom's foes into a foolhardy charge.

Profession: Apology Maker.
You are well-versed in making long winded but seemingly compassionate apologies on the Society's behalf. Whether it's an angry baron whose wife has eloped with a charismatic bard, a Shepherd who lost most of his flock in an errant fireball or a triumphant Cult Leader who lost a fair few minions when an unsuccessful adventuring party tried to storm his dungeon, the Apology Maker is always there to be sympathetic and see the victim's point of view.

My cleric (domains Travel and Love) has Profession: Match-Maker. I like to think he get's invited to a lot of weddings...

How about a Bard with Profession: Herald. He can be the guy who shows up when you spend 1 Prestige on that particular vanity. ;)

Liberty's Edge

My armor master fighter, profession: Bodyguard
Callistrian cleric I'm thinking profession : Dominatrix

I have a Lamashtan cleric with Profession (Childcare).

Jiggy's idea about Profession (Herald) is kind of funny. I might put a point into it when my Psychic hits 12 or 13. How great would it be to have a post-Eyes VC following around his protege as a herald?
