People Being Deliberately Creepy

I've sort of held my tongue about this for a while now, but I gotta get it out:

It's very cool of James Jacobs to respond to fans in not just one, but two message board threads. Frankly, I'm sort of surprised he hasn't tired of dancing about like a performing monkey after 170+ pages of questions, and I really appreciate his efforts to reach out to the community.

Having said that, I see a disturbing trend occurring in the Ask Merisiel thread with people being deliberately pervy and harping on queries of an overtly sexual nature in post after post. I'm concerned for two reasons:

1) Just ew. Look, James, no offense, but I've seen pictures. No amount of elf-chick cheesecake art is gonna make me want to flirt with you in alter-ego form. I'm a well-adjusted adult heterosexual male with a beautiful wife and no real desire to go fantasizing about fictional women. Don't get me wrong - I'd love to get Merisiel's input on how to go about playing a better rogue, or debate the merits of throwing daggers versus shuriken... but that's as far as I can go with such a charade.

2) There is a real danger that pushing things too far in that thread may just cause JJ to throw up his hands and walk away. Of course, that's his prerogative anyway, the moment he gets tired of it... but certain types of posts could very well exacerbate that end result to a premature eventuality.

So guys, maybe lighten up on the creepy, pervy what-do-u-look-like-naked-wanna-do-teh-sex-with-Kyra stuff? You're making yourselves look sort of pathetic, and I'd hate to see James discontinue his contact with fans because a few of us don't know how to behave like civilized people.

Sorry if this is out of line, but jeez. Srsly.

Damn now I got to go read that thread.... :p

lol, I just posted in that thread a few mins before you wrote this if 'she' (Merisiel) thought some of the questions were creepy.

There have been a few borderline inappropriate questions on the "Ask Merisiel" thread, along with a couple of OVER the line inappropriate ones. I've removed the ones that go to far and have asked folks to stay on target in the thread. And I'll continue to remove posts that take things too far. That said... it IS in the off-topic forum and all sorts of crazy stuff go on in that place...

All you are doing it giving free advertising. I noticed the thread, popped in, saw nothing interesting and left. Now I will have to go back. I am sure James will say enough is enough when it becomes enough.

I'm confused. What does using a magic spell to unzip compressed files on your computer (rather than downloading a program to do so, thus saving space on your hard drive) have to do with sex?

Touche! (Though I still maintain that I am your last line of defense against a corsetry golem, sir.)

Truth be told, the only one that weirded me out was the one you very obviously deleted, and that has way more to do with that specific poster's prior contributions to discussions than anything else. More than anything, it's geek shame - doing stuff like this perpetuates a lot of negative stereotypes about gamers that I work very hard to disprove, and watching a slew of people confirm them... well, it's kinda disheartening. That's all.

Well, I'm glad you said it. You had a lot more tact than I would have.

It's because nobody actually knows what Q&A stands for, so they resort to humanities first line of defense against ignorance.

So it is ok to ask question on how best to kill people....but not sex related question? Yup this is still America. ;)

Sure there is a line(which was crossed by a certain poster). But have to say lighten up.

Glad I'm not the only one who finds Shuriken Nekogami's posts on that thread to be unsettling to say the least.

I enjoy the occasional, silly and in my eyes harmless flirts, if for no other reason than they can elicit humorous responses.

THAT one, however, crosses the line, into all sorts of strange and weird places, and to be honest, even though Merisiel is a fictional character whose being "played" by James, some of that is just wrong to ask of a real girl too.

I'm still trying to guess what the A stands for. I already got the Q part.

I'm far from being a prude - I like my sex and violence in equal portions, thank you very much... and there's quite a bit about me no one here or anyone else needs to know. =]

But ask yourself this question: would the contents of that thread be as overtly sexual in nature if if was, say, "Ask Ezren" or "Ask Harsk"? Heck, even "Ask Valeros" would probably have less risque material in it.

I probably should have refrained from comment, in retrospect, as I'm sure James can control the situation to the degree which he feels appropriate. I just don't want fans to squick out the nice people at Paizo and leave a bad taste in their mouth about interacting with us on the boards.

A fey is fine too though. ;)

Still wondering where the Valeros/Imrijka pairing came from, but I support it, regardless.

Put it this way. Case of First Degree Murder are handled on the state level, but a case of "wardrobe malfunction" during a televised football game ultimately resulted in Congressional action. Yes, we ARE that kind of country.

Silly Question, but would it be possibly for a weekly 'Ask an Iconic' thread? Week 1, ask an Iconic, going through alphabetical order till the whole thing starts again? Would be an interesting insight into the minds of the Paizo staff that choose to be part of the torture ... errr ... experience?

And on a silly note before I hit the sack, my money is on Imrijka being a Tsundere, hopefully not a Yandere. Otherwise poor Valeros is going to be for a world of hurt ...

Probably not. Not all of our iconics have in-house fans who are also capable of and/or interested in spending that much time on such a thread.

I'd ask Balthazar what's up with that chicken-headed snake-thing. (What, were they out of starpandas?)

And I'd totally not insinuate that he was overcompensating for something by travelling around with a six foot long, um, yanno, that other word for rooster.

Why is it, that we have a sexuality taboo?

but extremely graphic violence is perfectly fine?

i don't get it.

american parents can allow thier children to play games with massive amounts of violence, and watch movies loaded with blood and gore, but the moment that conventionally attractive young woman on television even does something minor as unfastening a simple buckle or drawstring. everyone flips out.

unlike most americans, i have no sexuality taboo.

i hate having to fake one to blend in.

and just because i heavily like Disgaea, Touhou, Rozen Maiden, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Strike Witches doesn't mean i'm a pedophile. heck, i don't even FAP to any of them.

200+ years ago this country was founded by a bunch of repressed religious people called Puritans. Along the way it was decided to use part of our land as a rehabilitation for hardened criminals (parts of the south). Those "values" that the Puritans had still follow us to this day BUT we have loosened the noose (so to speak) on violence because violence is a major part of this countries history (Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korean War, etc.) If you are wondering why I mentioned the hardened criminals, well lets just say that violence breeds violence.

The other part of that isn't so much that sexuality is taboo per se, but the idea that a woman is exploited for sex or is taken advantage of for sexual gratification that weirds people out. They are unsure how to feel in those situations as we are indoctrinated at a young age to either 1. not allow this sort of thing to happen or 2. not get any kind of amusement or pleasure out of it and if you do you are a pervert and should be punished, etc.

You are welcome.

JMD031

I think its one's definition of "young" that is the problem.

To me, a young woman baring something had better be at the youngest 19 or 20.
Legally, it's 18.
Some, sicker folk think that 12+ qualifies, some even younger.
At some point it goes from admiration of physique to predation of innocense.

Add in some fetish stuff, and you wonder why people think some posts are creepy.

i admit that sometimes may characters tend to get pretty graphic.

in describing every indivdual layer of clothing, layer by layer. and most of my characters wear several layers. and almost all of my women wear pants of some kind beneath thier robe, longcoat, skirt, or dress. and sometimes in thier backstory. if it makes sense for the setting.

i have never felt sexual desires for a woman under the legal age of 18, except a few times where i was a minor myself.

heck, i think Megan Fox, Jennifer Garner, and Vanessa Hudgens are hot. and none of them are under 18.

Dude's plain hot. Cute, troubled past, into music. He's a bard so he certainly has a high charisma. Pretty blue eyes. Shaggy hair. Those fuzzy cute Seventies sideburns. Just look at him!

Also you can tell by how he carries his small short sword that he's got a dirty sense of humor.

In the US the most common age of consent is 16, but it varies state to state. Canada had 14 until a few years ago, as did some US states.
