Godwin pulls the collar free of the webs and brushes it off, holding it up to any light. "Looks like it was a bad day for Kita."

"We should return that to the owner with the news that their dog has been slain by these monsters", he says with a sigh of regret. "I wonder what else we might find here. It is said that there are lands beneath the ground where the sun don't reach, ever. And if an earthquake finally opened this place up, maybe something else has come as well?"

"Well, I'm not overly fond of the dark myself. I think from now on I'll make sure I can see what we're walking into."

Will bends over and gathers some pebbles from the rubble strewn about. He then casts light on one of them and gives it a gentle toss towards the shadow shrouded doorway.

DM Dice roll:

1d100 ⇒ 79

The coin bounces into the northern room; it gets lodged into some rubble but illuminates enough to display that most of the floor is covered with debris. As the group enters, they find a door on the southern wall. It appears accessible.

"I do wonder how solid this fortress's foundation is. . . Maybe we should start marking a trail and looking for escape routes and areas to go incase it begins to cave in?"

Male Human Cavalier 1

"You might be right, Sir Loren. Can we entrust you with keeping tabs on said escape route?"

After careful examination, it does look like the fortress is sturdy enough that it won't collapse in the near future.

is the door in southern wall open or closed?

Closed.

"Certainly. I have some chalk that we can mark our way. So, where shall we go now? I think we should attempt to find out way to the top."

Male Human Cavalier 1

"Well, shall we open the door to the south then?"

"Works for me. Keep an eye out for the evil druids. Probably have a bunch of devil monkeys waiting for us."

You all gather around the door as you attempt to open it. With a loud creak you manage to open it only slightly. By the feel of it, there is a lot of rubble on the other side. The light from the coin illuminates enough for you to see the contents of the room.

A cylindric staircase stands in the middle. Rubble decorates just about every inch of each step, as well as majority of the floor, and a large chunk of the building appears to be stuck where the first and second floor cross.

Shadow Lodge

HP: 24/24, AC: 14, T: 11, FF: 13, F: +4 , R: +2 , W: +6, CMB: +4 , CMD: 14, INIT: +1, Perception: +7, Male Human Cleric 3

"Well, it seems we are not ment to go this way. We will need to find anotherway to go up, unless someone feels the need to clear this stair and risk further cave in."

I will go ahead and write in common on the door that this way is completely caved in, and draw (poorly) a upwards spiral, to show the staircase.

What other directions have we seen so far that we might climb up this tower?

I'll also look around the rubble for a small piece of the Fortress wall, looking for a small smoother piece to take with me as a memento, adding it t a small collection in my pouch. Just something that catches my eye as interesting. :)

"Well. I can't fit through myself. Anyone else care to, or shall we find a different way out?"

"Well, it looks like the entire room has colapsed, so even getting through the door will not help us progress.", or am I misunderstanding about the latter?

DM Stompinator wrote:

Not long ago there was a thread about pushing Alchemists down the stairs for just this sort of thing. . .:)

The room isn't inaccessible, but the stairway up is - you were right in your previous assessment that you need to find another way up.

Male Human Cavalier 1

"Well then, which way do we go now?"

"It is very possible that the damage to th upper floors has cut off access to all of the stairs going up or down. If there are spiders here, it is possible that they have nested by the entrance because there hasn't been any traffic past that point. I think we should check the other rooms, but will likely have to go outside to scale the wall. A feat I am not an expert in. . ."

I am going to take out my map while others continue to check this room just to see if there are any notes that might help, but otherwise I am ready to go when everyone else is.

Is everyone still playing?

"Rooms it is, then." Godwin walks to the nearest closed door and opens it.

Will double checks his crossbow and casts another spell to light up a pebble.

"I'm not much of a climber myself, so hopefully we'll find an easier way."

Male Human Cavalier 1

Anath peers into the doorway, trying to see anything inside

Perception roll:1d20 ⇒ 3

Godwin, the only door is the one with the broken stairway and numerous rubble. Will retcon your action as peering through the door with Anath, if that's okay.

Through the doorway you see rubble. Every foot seems to contain rubble, to the point where entering would be close to impossible.

The only way up seems to be up the walls.

"So, we climb then?" Godwin will look for the easiest spot to climb up.

Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

I may be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure it up the walls back outside. We can still explore inside, I believe, but this specific room we can not progress into. There should be other areas still on this level to see.

Partially correct. The only way up is up the walls on the outside - the three rooms you've seen/been into are the only rooms available.

Ok, I thought we had another side to explore still.

"Back outside then. Anyone have a rope?"

Male Human Cavalier 1

"As a matter of fact, I do!" Takes out his hemp rope (50 ft.) and hads it to Loren.

Who'da know it would have come in handy? Good thing I thought to bring it ^_-

As you get back outside, the cool air greets you; inside, it was a lot more pungent than you imagined. The torn-up walls here seem a lot easier to climb than the masterfully craftsmanship that consists of the rest of the tower. This is also the only place that appears damaged.

Will need a climb check if you want to get up.

I'll go hed ad remove my sheld and sheath my weapon. I would suggest gettig the best climbers up there and then Aiding Another.

Godwin Cailean wrote:

Climb: 1d20+1

Here I go!

Godwin clutches onto a couple of rocks and heaves himself upwards - only to lose his grip on some smooth stones a little higher up. He lands on his feet, a little wiser of how the wall must be climbed.

+2 circumstance bonus on your next climb check, Godwin.

Male Human Cavalier 1

"I don't suppose any of you brought a grappling hook, did you?"

Places sword back in scabbard and shield on back, and tries to climb the wall

Climb:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Godwin wipes his hands on his pants and looks at the wall again. "Well, never let humiliation get in the way of a good time, right?"

Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Godwin attempts to climb up the wall again, and reaches the second floor without any incident.

On top of the second floor, Godwin finds that the drop down is a lot steeper than it looks. Two doors decorate the walls, one to the north-west and one to the north-east. On the wall are torch holders, sturdy bits of metal that have been planted into the wall.

Godwin will pull out his length of rope from his pack, pick the most secure torch sconce, tie off the rope and throw it down for the others to climb.

"Come on up! No druids here yet!"

I just found out I am deploying a lot quicker than I had believed. Within the next few days I may not be abe to continue this game, though I will try. If I do vanish, feel free to continue with my character as an NPC.

I will take the rope and attempt to climb it as well.
Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

I didn't mean we shuld stop. . . I was reallly hoping we could finish this fairly soon.

Male Human Cavalier 1

Anath grabs the rope and tries to climb too:

Climb:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

My apologies, having a rough couple of days...and with one player MIA and one player absent it does dishearten me slightly. I'll make the effort.

With the rope you easily manage to climb up to the second floor. The two doors to the north-west and north-east still stand there, closed.

Map of the second floor.

I'll try to reach down and help hoist Anath up, if I can.

Don't worry about it DM. Play by Posts are always fairly difficult to run unless there are a lot of players or everyone has a time frame. Most are a little more character driven, too, so it's not your fault. I'm enjoying it, and appriciate the work you put ino running it, too.

Godwin will move to the NW door and inspect it for traps!

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Disable Device, if needed: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Male Human Cavalier 1

Hey DM, I totally understand how you feel, but I say take heart, I'm liking my first PBP experience, and I'm hoping we can play together some more

If Anath did not have any trouble climbing, he will stay right behind Godwin to provide Backup if needed.

I apologise for my slow pace, the summer heat is hitting hard in Norway and it is making me drowsy. Since jlighter absolutely vanished I am afraid I will eject him from this adventure - and since Will is absent for two weeks (though with notice) he will not be considered in fights unless he posts himself. As such, you are now 3 and I will adjust the encounters accordingly.

DM Dice Rolls:

1d100 ⇒ 13

Anath climbs up without problems thanks to the rope, and moves up close to Godwin; while Godwin finds no semblance of traps on the crude door, he does find that it is locked - and that the keyhole has been mangled beyond repair. It also seems to require some force to be pushed open.

I'll attempt to give it a good kick
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
to see if I can break it open.

Well, gentlemen, this is probably it for me. I want to thank everyone for my last game before I leave, and if I am able to continue it once I leave, I will. I appricite the work you put into running it, and am sad I can may not be able to finish it.

Well, with three people gone I have to call it quits on this. I apologise. Thank you for joining, everybody - I got valuable experience out of this. Maybe I'll see you in another game, another time.
