Play-by-Post Discussion

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Welcome, all. We should have an IC thread up shortly, and we can get going. Going over character sheets, I just have a few notes to hand out for things to look at.

Alexander Fellblade: Movement speed 50'? Probably not with the Hide Armor. Other than that, good to go.

Ama Freewater: Seems you haven't purchased any peripheral gear or weapons. You going without? Also, description tab is blank. Otherwise, good to go.

Boomer, the Mad Bomber: Your formula book gets one more formula. And just a check on the alchemist's sling, where is it from? Otherwise ready.

Gregor the Roach: Darkvision 60 ft, not 30. Otherwise, also ready.

Just some stuff to check. I'll have the IC thread up soon, and we'll go then.

Male Gnome Alchemist 1

I added Reduce Person and the alchemists sling is something I made up. It is just a regular sling with an oversized pocket large enough to hold bombs and alchemical items, giving me a bit more range since 10 to 20 feet away from his target is closer than Boomer cares to be if he can help it. It's not particularly necessary if you don't like it, but it fit the character.

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Mkay. Just wanted to check on that because it was unfamiliar and I didn't see it on the SRD.

Half Orc Ranger 1

I'll fix the darkvision soon. Thanks again for taking on a game. Alas, I'll have to be absent from thursday to saturday. I'm unexpectedly called out of town. If that is a problem, feel free to kick me out. Otherwise, I'll try to get things started and then Gregor can become suddenly agreeable.

Alright jlighter! Lets see whose team does better! :P LOL

Friendly competition wot wot!

I'll be watching :O

Once Alexander and Ama check in, the IC thread will go up, so you'll have at least a day's worth of posting. I can DMPC Gregor for a couple of days, if that helps. Any extra (important personality or motivation or characteristic responses) notes would help in that event, but there's enough in his background for me to run a rough version of him.

Hm. Race to the finish, or quality of play? I'll have to keep an eye on yours, as well.

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

I'm here. Can't quite update yet, as I've working on a LOT of homework due tomorrow, but I'll get in what I can. Equipment will be pretty barebones, since he honestly doesn't ~need~ much, though any personality on Illimara Oniri beyond the opening explanation would definitely help me develop more of Ama's personality.

I'll be playing off of the lead-in.

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Hm. I wish they had provided more. The paragraph in the recruitment thread is all the information the module gives. I'll put something together for you.

Ilimara Oniri, Extended:
Ilimara Oniri lives on the outskirts of Kassen. This appears to be by her own choice, but among the other townsfolk is a sense of relief that she spends most of her time alone. The exotically beautiful woman is a Keleshite born in Qadira and schooled in the ways of that country. To many she appears arrogant and aloof, holding herself above others despite her short stature. Her eyes are equal parts intoxicating and disturbing, with amber irises offset by a trace of woad tattooing along the lower eyelid. Whispers that she has learned secrets of transcendence from Irori follow in her wake on those occasions she walks through town.

With those who have tried to study with her to learn her secrets, Ilimara is uniformly critical. She disapproves of those who seek power for its own sake, and often dismisses or drives away those whose motives she judges unworthy of what she has to teach. Those whose motives are deemed acceptable are permitted to study with her. Study consist in large part of silent meditation and meditation through grueling exercise. Ilimara sets a fast pace for improvement, and those who cannot keep up with the regimen she sets are destined to receive many harsh words.

At times Ilimara reveals hints of cruelty in her nature. They start small and escalate quickly, for she is not a patient teacher. Rumors tell the story of the time she beat a student into unconsciousness for breaking a vase during an exercise (if asked, she'll first demand to know where you heard the story, then admit that she did strike the student hard enough to knock him flat, but not into unconsciousness). Generally, she manages to catch these moments before they go too far. When she does, she leaves the room and proceeds to bathe herself in steaming water. She'll then leave a list of instructions for the next 3 or 4 days exercises and lock herself into her meditation room with no food and only a small amount of water.

When she approves of a student's progress, she will praise the student in a guarded manner. Few of her accepted students make it through the first month of training. Those who do are well on their way to embarking on the path of self perfection. Her smile is a hard-won gift, but when she bestows it, it is a genuine sign of being impressed.

Hope that helps a bit, Me'mori. Kinda improvised based on a few ideas drawn from the Qadira, Keleshite, and Irori descriptions and combined with the smidgen they give as her actual description.

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

It does greatly. I'll have a temperament up for Ama by tonight, I believe. before then, I've got to take a test and catch a flight.

Sorry I've not replied sooner, but I'm on a UK timeline and I don't usually get up until late due to no work and all play making me a tired layabout.

Anyway, I'll fix that on the character sheet, it'll most likely be 30 or 20 ft with medium armour but I'm unsure. I'll check online.

edit: medium armour so yeah, slows down.

Woo! Another game with Overfiend! *dances*

Looks like Dementia Walker isn't interested in continuing the other game, though.. I liked Edan.

I thought the DM was called to the front line early and dissappeared?

Anyway, yeah, you're a great player and we were having a great time with the investigating and my female paladin that just wanted to be a paladin and smite all evil she found, though evil was hiding very well.

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Okay. Sorry, forgot to account for time-zone. I'll make a note somewheres.

Alexander Fellblade, check. Ama Freewater, soon to be check. Mechanics-wise, everything is good to go, so I'll post the IC thread sometime this afternoon (PST).

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Okay, that took a bit longer than I thought it would, but we now have an IC thread: Link

The initial post is up. I took a few liberties with regards to your mentors and your morning routines. As far as posting, I'd like to make a few requests:

- Please try to keep OOC discussions in the OOC thread when possible.
- For combat scenarios, I tend to run things with a round-by-round posting more than turn-by-turn. If possible, list your actions (with appropriate rolls), as well as an alternative action just in case your initial choice doesn't work. Example: Alex wants to attack Enemy B. He posts his action, but Enemy B comes before him in the Initiative and moves out of range or drops because of another character's attack. What is Alex's alternative action?
- Have fun with this. I'm looking forward to running this adventure with you.

A few general notes as well:

- General links, such as maps (towns or areas you are in or exploring) will be linked in my GM profile for reference as well as linked in-thread when necessary.
- House-rules, if/when they come up, will be posted here. A running list will also be maintained in my GM profile for easy reference.
- Your character sheets are linked in my GM profile in addition to the IC and OOC threads.

So, let's get this going. I'm looking forward to gaming with you all.

We should probably figure out how well our characters know each other before we get too much farther. After being in town for 50 years, I would imagine Boomer would know, and be known by, pretty much everyone in town, especially since he started out as a cook at the local tavern, and still maintains a regular presence there. At 100 yrs old, he has developed a congenial, laid pack, and patient personality that is still curious about the world around him.

Sounds believeable to me. Especially as you said he's been hanging around for 50 years aand is a active cook who likes to get along with people. I'd believe it as plausable, however this is up to the DM to decide.

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Good point. That's a bit of a failure on my part. A quick discussion here wouldn't be a bad idea.

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

Okay, would have done this sooner, but flight got canceled in Atlanta, ended up driving out, just getting access now. I'm here.

Game-wise, I am perfectly comfortable with the DM rolling every passive check(Initiative, Saves, Knowledge check for something mentioned in passing) for my character to speed up time.

In-character, Ama spent nearly all of his time with Illimara, though I don't doubt that she sent her acolytes into town to retrieve necessary items, or with some purpose to fulfill as training. He does not have many knowledge skills, so having met him in the library is out, though he was not above taking what free time that he would have been allowed to play and be a kid.

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Let's pause the IC thread for a moment while we figure out how/if folks know each other. I can toss out an idea or two based on your backgrounds. Not to try to railroad your characters or anything, just to give you a few ideas.

-Boomer has been in town for 50 or so years. Perhaps one or more of the others met him while he was helping out at the tavern?
-Ama's description says he helped out the guards for a while when he got to town. Perhaps he and Alexander are acquainted?
-Perhaps Gregor received clothing from Ama or Alexander?
-Alexander and Gregor are both foundlings. Perhaps they were raised together for a time?

Just a few thoughts based on things I read from your backgrounds. Let's do a quick piece in here on figuring out who knows who, though.

Werehare Inquisitive 3/ Seeker 3/ Bard 3

Most certainly.

Ama could have come to know Boomer as undoubteldly, Illimara would test her acolyte's willpower, making them fast for a day, then sending them to the tavern with instructions to help or stand, without giving in to the temptation of taking a single drink or bite.

Ama did help the guards for a while when he was younger, but it was not distracting enough. He could know Alexander from there.

it is just fine if he had seen Gregor enough to know of him.

sounds good to me. I'm sure Alexander might've come across Ama as he did help the guards when he was younger as Me'mori said.

Also boomer was probably well known to everyone in the town being the cook so that certainly makes sense that anyone would know him as he's a cook and being a Gnome he ceartainly wouldn't be a quiet chef. Might be a few explosions, but I'd leave that up to boomer to state if he made any explosions or not.

Just been reading through the inner sea guide in detail and it's interesting what it says about Gnome being chaotic and finding new things to keep entertained to stay off the bleaching.

Male Gnome Alchemist 1

Boomer's regular cooking wouldn't have explosions, that's what his bombs are for. But he certainly would not have hidden himself away in the kitchen, so definitely a known chef.

Shadow Lodge

The Races of Golarion line of books from the Player Companion series has a lot of interesting fluff on the various races they've covered so far. Gnomes in particular have a very interesting history/description.

lol, yeah that makes sense. Well being a gnome I'm sure he gets along with everyone so he would be very well known about town.

I could imagine him knowing what everyone's favourite dish would be.

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Just to check before we continue, have we all weighed in on any prior acquaintance of the other characters?

Ama's is sweetbread with syrup.

Alexander most likely would've spent a lot of time at the guard training so he'd likely run into anyone who would have a run in with the guards and he's more than likely to have run into boomer at lunch time having a meal at where he works as a chef.

Not sure who else, if anyone he would've met.

Male Gnome Alchemist 1

So to gather all of this together, with everything here and in there opening posts in the regular thread (feel free to correct me if I am off):

Alexander Fellblade : moderately well known as a rising star in the militia, though Boomer is probably the only other PC who really knows him personally, with perhaps Gregor the Roach having interacted with him on a purely professional level.

Ama : Boomer would probably know him, the others might recognize the name as one of Ilimara's students, with differing opinions on the worth of the task he as set for himself. He would likewise know of the others' reputation, but probably gave very little thought to it.

Boomer : Everybody knows, and is known, by the outgoing cook with generally good will both ways. Boomer is mildly amused at everyone's elses, including his own mentor's, "youthfulness," while most people in town simply know Boomer as the cook who as been there for as long as most of them, including the town elders, can remember.

Gregor the Roach : Like Boomer, known by everyone, but generally for all the wrong reasons. Familiar with the Fellblade name, and with Boomer's cooking, he is not likely to know personally Ama or Alexander, and even Boomer is probably a little more distant comparatively due to the fact that Gregor probably spends as little time as possible in the tavern for his own reasons.

And my 3wishes? :p

Just joking, in my RL campaign I have a bottle of genie summoning or whatever it's called. Would be awesome if I got 3 wishes on thursday, but knowing my luck I get the low end where it goes insane and attacks me. :p

Wakey, Wakey DM

Friend of mine is starting up a kingmaker game if interested:

Kingmaker of kings and coronets

*raises the blade and brings it down to Coupe De Grace the thread*

DC 31 Fort save, or die.

I'm going to stop watching this Thread is there is no reply by 10 pm, GMT.

Since I made this offer to the other group that Jlighter had been running:

Hey guys! Since your DM Vanished, and you all originally wanted to roll with my game... I may be willing to put up a game for you all.

It would NOT be Carrion Crown however as I dont have access to it. It would either be Curse of the Crimson Throne or Second Darkness.

I am checking to see if I can get ahold of one of those, but if you would want to give it a shot let me know.

Post here, or in my Crypt OOC Thread if you want. Also, if we do this it would be a 6 person party cause a friend of mine would be helping me get the AP together.

So, sound off, let me know, either here OR in my Crypt of the Everflame OOC Thread, found here: Crypt OOC Thread

You guys have 3 days from today (So THURSDAY Night) to claim your spot. If you do that you will be promised a spot for sure.

After those 3 days (IE FRIDAY) you will have to apply if you want in like everyone else, and if we have less then 5 people I will be doing an open recruitment for the spots. Hopefully I wont have to.

The recruitment will be first come first served as usual.
