Gifted Adept Trait Question

Rules Questions

If I take this trait, does it allow me to pick a new spell on top of the number of spells my character would already know?

Also, is there a maximum spell level to which this trait can be applied?

Finally, can the spell to which this trait applies come from a class list that is different from my character's class?

The trait description doesn't cover these issues. I was wondering if there was a general consensus on issues like this.

Thanks

I think you can just pick any spell, it just doesnt do anything if you aren't able to cast that spell yet. You don't get to know any extra spells it just affects the chosen spell if it is one you know.

Gifted Adept: Your interest in magic was inspired by witnessing a spell being cast in a particularly dramatic method, perhaps even one that affected you physically or spiritually. This early exposure to magic has made it easier for you to work similar magic on your own. Pick one spell when you choose this trait—from this point on, whenever you cast that spell, its effects manifest at +1 caster level.

Let's say that you pick the spell Magic Missile when you take this trait. If I were to play a paladin, I've essentially just wasted my trait because I will not get to cast Magic Missile since it's not on the Paladin list of spells. So, instead, I choose Wizard. When I cast Magic Missile, it'll be at +1 CL. My spellbook does not now automatically contain Magic Missile; I still have to learn it.

Now let's say that I've chosen Wall of Fire instead. I now have to wait until level 7 and I still have to learn the spell for the trait to do me any good.

Basically, treat everything like normal but, when you cast this particular spell (which you have to already be able to cast normally), you do so at +1 CL.

Thanks, guys. That clears things up.
