Throwing enemies

Rules Questions

Is there any way to throw an enemy, just pick them up and toss them across the room or something like that?

My initial though was that it would essentially be like a bull rush but with the fluff that you were throwing them rather than charging into them.

My second thought was that you could grapple to get a hold and then try to use them as an improvised weapon.

My third thought is like my first but using the shield bash + Shield slam feat. You might also be able to convince a DM to let you modify the feats for an arm bash/throw thing.

There are a few other attack plus push feats that might work with some modification.

Ki Throw and Improved Ki Throw are the only ways I'm aware of for PF.

The barbarian rage power "knockback" allows you to do something similar, substituting a bull rush for a melee attack where you don't have to move with your target when you succeed in pushing him.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this too. I'm picturing some of the larger giants picking up characters and slamming them into walls, or to the floor, or over cliffs, etc. Could be a devastating attack, but one that I think a real giant (should one exist) would try to employ.

I think I would treat it as a grapple. Then, when it comes time for the "push," figure the distance he could throw the character (consider that giants often throw boulders, so I'd use this range). For impact damage against a stone wall, I'd use the same damage as thrown boulders that hit characters. As to whether some kind of reflex save would be allowed to halve damage upon impact, I don't know. The guy who plays the rogue in my group would certainly make his case for it.

I suspect the OP was talking about characters throwing opponents, though, not the other way around...

I think if a player wanted to throw a living unwilling creature Id probably do it as:

1. Grapple check
2. Try to 'pin' the throw-ee (in this case pin being whatever position your gonna use to throw them. Holding them over your head, grabbing them by the leg, etc)
3a. If they dont care where they land, then Athletics check for the throw with whatever appropraite penalty for the weight of the throw-ee for distance
3b. If they are actually trying to target a spcific spot to throw the throw-ee at, then they make an attack roll with a -4 for the throw-ee being an improvised weapon (unless they have Throw Anything), and maybe some kind of penalty for the weight of the character.
4. Throw-ee gets to make an Acrobatics check for half damage.

If they got thrown into something like a stone wall Id probably go with appropriate amount of fall damage for the distance, plus the throwing characters str (x 1.5 for two handing).

For more of a Judo throw, you could use the reposition combat maneuver. For "pick up and throw", you would use bull rush while choosing to not follow the target.

If you want to houserule a bit, you could combine the two into a single action called "throw." Make a CMB check at -5 (reposition to any square adjacent to you). If successful, move the opponent 5ft. in any direction. For every +5 you beat the check by, move the opponent an additional 5ft.

There is the Awesome Blow feat in the Bestiary.

Thanks, that's cool, I didn't know about that.

I'm never good at determining the 'damage' value of... a halfling vs. an adult male.

With THIS information, I would make it a grapple attack to get a hold of them. Then just a ranged attack to hit (Probably -4 for not being proficient in 'person')I'm sure there are feat that would adjust that... Throw anything maybe??

Then damage is the same listed in Enemy hammer. (+ strength modifier of course...)

Now your barbarian can just GO TO TOWN in a tavern bar ^_^

ALL of this of course assumes that your character is actually CAPABLE of thowing the opponent.

What if it was a willing creature. So I'm a DM and game with a giant Instinct Barbarian. That level 6 and has the feet where he can grow too large . He has a large javelin with return on it. So when he grows too large I do believe his Javelin would grow to huge. And I have a halfling that wants to ride the javelin crssd great distances. So my question is with a willing creature is there game mechanics to support this ?

Giant instinct barbarian suggests you're playing PF2. This thread is from 2011 which should be a strong hint that it doesn't relate to PF2.
