Spell Casting DCs

Advice

Hello All,

I have been reading the archives, and have been looking for ways to increase the save DCs of my effects.

Other than Spell-Focus, Greater Spell Focus, Heighten Spell and increasing my CHA/INT/WIS are there any other ways to increase DCs.

Im thinking, traits or character options. I am particularly looking for transmutation, evocation, necromancy effects for a sorcerer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Elemental focus will work for some spells, beyond that there's very little aside from picking the right bloodline.

Arcane Bloodline will give a +2 to one of your schools of magic, and spell perfection will increase the bonuses from feats for one of your spells as well.

Find a succubus to give you a +2 profane bonus to your casting stat -- and that's about it currently.

Gnomes get an unnamed bonus to their illusion DCs. And the Shadow Evocation/Conjuration line of spells is of a higher level than the originals, adding to the DC.

Dreamspeaker Alternate Racial Trait gives +1 DC to Divination Spells and Sleep effects.

Gnome Magic is +1 DC vs Illusion Spells
Magic Linguist is +1 DC vs language dependent spells

There are also some alternate races that allow you to treat your caster stat as +2 with certain kinds of magic, the net effect is a +1 DC.

With an 18 caster stat, +2 from race, +5 book, +6 item, +5 from levels nets you 36 in the ability score, which means +13

With spell focus and greater spell focus you add 2, and with the arcane bloodline you add 2 more.

DC=10+13+2+2=27 + spell lvl.

A 9th lvl spell would be DC 36 (same as your caster stat.. funny)

That would be the usual max without going into epic levels or getting temporary bonuses..

Spell perfection gets you into the 40's.

No, it only doubles bonuses from feats, which means spell focus and greater spell focus: DC=38. And it only works on a few spells, so not generally for all your spells. The DC36 could apply to almost all spells (with which you have SF/GSF) by the use of heighten spell.

Of course with illusions and divinations the DC could, potentially, be 1 higher.

I forgot age bonuses; at old age you add 2 to your mental stats=+1 DC, though this is also kind of temporary, as you're almost dead from oldness when you get this.

*EDIT* So a gnome illusionist, at old age, with spell perfection could op his DC to 40 for that one spell (41 if it's language dependant and you have magic linguist). Think that's the highest..

You forget if it's an elemental spell there's another +2.

You can go a bit higher by using SF/GSF, Elemental focus, Greater elemental focus, arcane bloodline and Spell perfection:

Old Gnome Sorcerer with the Arcane Bloodline
Base= DC 10
Spellevel(9th)= +9 DC
Cha: 20+5(Manual)+5(Levels)+6(Item)+2(Age)=38 -> +14 DC
SF/GFS= +2 DC
Elemental focus/Greater Elemental Focus= +2 DC
Arcane Bloodline= +2 DC
Spell Perfection= +4 DC (Doubling the bonuses from GSF and Greater Elemental Focus)

Final DC= 10+9+14+2+2+2+4=43

Now this only works on a single spell that has an elemental descriptor. It can be boosted to 44 or 45 if there was a spell with an elemental descriptor, and at the same time was language dependant and of the Illusion school.

Dark Archive

Magical Linguist replaces Gnome Magic, so you can't get both bonuses.
