Nathan, stop your weeping. You're in heaven and didn't even know it.

I wish our couch was comfortable enough to nap on. I'm not just tired, I'm Sofa King tired.

Good morning.

It would be awesome if librarian porn just had titles like that.

Morning all, what did I miss?

Silver Crusade

I'm feeling quite a bit better today. Mostly I'm trying to rehydrate. But I'm back at work, at any rate.

You know what the best thing about not being able to post from work is? Being able to complain about work. I'm a little under the weather today, possibly because I was sitting in front of the air conditioner at last night's game and the weather has taken a turn for the damp and cold. I call my boss early and leave a message saying I am not feeling well, and that I will call him back to ensure he got the message. I go back to sleep -it is a little on the early side and he could indeed be asleep. I call back later, no answer. Now I am thinking something is wrong, so I ride in the rain, getting there a little late and phlegmy. Not long after getting things started, my boss say saunters in. I ask him why he did not call me back -I thought something was wrong. His response is a smug smirk and a clap on the arm, saying that he knew I would pull through. I have never been so desirous to do someone physical harm to this extent since high school.

Silver Crusade

Don't give them the chance, FHDM. When calling in sick, simply say, "I am sick and I will not be there today," and let them sort it out. If you have the sick time, they shouldn't penalize you for using it or give you a guilt trip/passive-aggressive routine about it.

So, weird dream last night. Somehow, I had gotten a job as a high school teacher at my old high school. (I have no idea how - I'm not at all certified or trained in education, but there it is.) I was teaching an odd combination of classes: English, religious ed, and... Dutch.

Yes. In this dream, my high school had started offering Dutch as a foreign language, and I was teaching it, only I can't speak a word of it, so I was trying to fake it by using the textbook.

Weird.

I usually tell my boss something that he can not argue with. I have called out today, told him I had a tummy issue that had me in and out of the bathroom. he didn't argue. :P

It's not the place that bothers me though. It's not the vast spaces between everything (16 miles from base to town, 16 desolate miles), it's the people. It's the accent. It's the Lutefisk. Sure the state is doing well fiscally, sure there's a great housing market....

...but the people just drive me crazy. I'm a semi-liberal centrist atheist. This is the most conservative, religious place I've EVER been too (for contrast - I went to a catholic college in Chicopee Mass). I don't mind people having their views, I DO mind seeing 7 pro-life and 3 church-related billboards on my way to and from base every day. I mind church bells ringing at 10 PM on thursdays.

I cannot remember the author's name at this point, but he wrote two essays that take an in-depth look at two classic modules. The first was WG4, The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun, and the second was C1, The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan. He goes beyond the text to provide new insight into the adventures, postulates what the authors may have been thinking during development, and introduces a host of new ideas to help round out these classics.
I saw those being dropped in the other day. Thanks for the reminder; I need to check those out.

Also, your dreams are kind to you. My entire childhood I had the falling down and waking up just before I hit the ground dream. Every night. For about 10 years. I have a lot of dreams of my teeth cracking and falling out of my head. I also have a disturbing number of dreams where I am a murderer or accused of being a murderer, and spend the entire dream running / hiding from the police.

The worst is when you wake up and freak out because you're at home, and the cops are sure to catch you. It takes me a while to realize it was a dream sometimes. :/

I must say I am glad those dreams are about the running and hiding instead of the murder itself, however. And I did have a lot of dreams where I could run fast, jump up and glide like a kite if it was windy enough. Those were kinda cool.

Hmm...actually, thinking about it...my scariest dream was kinda a math dream...

Hell, I'm not sure those born and raised in Holland even speak Dutch that often. Or at least it's one of the 4 or 5 languages in which they are conversant :)

(I suppose the assumption that the Dutch are all expertly multi-lingual counts as a positive stereotype.)

I have bad dreams occasionally, like when I am turning into a zombie, or one time when I was caught in the middle of some sort of revolution (which resembled a horrific coup like you would find in Sub-Saharan Africa). But mostly my dreams are remarkably mundane. I once had an entire dream where all I did was wander through a supermarket looking for the spaghetti.

Being able to fly is a pretty common theme for me. Usually I'm disappointed when I wake up and I can't do it anymore.

My boss's wife is having an ultrasound, and there is a pool about the baby's gender. I'm so tempted to throw the few bucks away and write in "triplets" just to see what reaction I get. I've been teasing him about that for a week now, telling him it will be a multiple birth - he gets so pale in the face at the very thought.

I love our Downtown Library all the ladies working on the 3rd floor are stunning beauties. They have worked their for years. Both in the children's section and in the audio video section. Both my boys are too old for the children's section but damnit I will bring my niece up there any chance I get when she is in town.
