I almost had a similar accident when I was cycling regularly. I genuinely thought the last thing I was going to see was a fire truck.

(1) Unlearn any and all stupidity someone whose brain resides in the 1970s taught you.

(2) Determine the industry standard expected production from each employee based on their role.
(3) Instead of monitoring their emails, or how many bathroom breaks they take, or whether they're watching YouTube or YouPorn at their desks, monitor their production as well-defined for every job in every industry.
(4) If they're meeting their production quota and their work is of acceptable quality, leave them the f*** alone.

EDIT: I swear, such requests enrage me because they show such a fundamental lack of comprehension as to why you hired an employee in the first place. You needed a job done. You hired someone to do that job. Either they are doing that job satisfactorily or they aren't. Anything else is none of your f***ing business unless they're breaking the law.

So going to buy skates after the move and see about getting into the groove again. There's a skate park in the city we're moving to so that'll be an opportunity.

The fact that it was called 'breakfast stout' should have been a warning sign, since nobody but the most abandoned rakehell actually drinks stout for breakfast, and Heaven hides its face in shame and anguish from someone who voluntarily drinks beer that tastes of jam - jam! - at any time. Revolting, but I shall still finish it, since it cost me £4.90.

I gather that in the days when water was a health risk people did drink beer at breakfast, so, out of morbid curiosity, what sort of beer should one drink for breakfast, if not stout? Ale? Or is "ale" synonymous with "beer" in the most generic sense?

Traditionally, beer was brewed with hops and ale wasn't, though I don't think that's the case any more. Back in t'day, people drank small beer as a kind of soft drink, which was far weaker than modern beers (around 2%, maybe?) - you'd get a buzz out of it if you were guzzling it down by the quart all day, but it wouldn't enliven your morning as much as LM's 6% plus Leffe would if you had some first thing.

I would love to see a Lisamarlene so enlivened.

Okay. So.

A friend of mine passed away suddenly on Sunday. As they are Jewish they had to be buried swiftly. Went to the funeral today with minimal notice. She was a serious role player but far more interested in the World of Darkness side of things than anything here. We are remembering her with pizza(her favorite, real ny pizza,I pity you all who do not know such glories) and a marathon of Kindred The Embraced, which we watched at her house for the premiere so many years ago.

My god this is even worse than I remember it. I know she's laughing at us right now. Heartily.

Please know that I love each and every one of you. And hug your nearest loved one tight for me.

So my cousin and I are going to a local bridge club here in Kennebunk this afternoon. I'm scared to death that I'm going to make the wrong bids and play the wrong cards and look like a complete idiot, but he's almost 80 and he's flying back to Sacramento tomorrow and I have no idea when I'm going to see him again or how many chances we're going to have to do anything special together again and if this is what he wants to do on his last day here then by God we're going to do it. And no I am not getting weepy over the idea of going to a bridge club. There's just dust in my eye.

Building bridges with cards?

Perhaps I could suggest using sturdy logs instead.

Fun Fact Time!:

The San Diego Zoo used to have an orangutan called Ken Allen, who was very good at escaping from his enclosure. He would wander around the zoo, looking at other animals, and was never aggressive towards any people or other animals. Except for one. There was another orangutan, named Otis, that Ken hated, and during one of his escapes he was found throwing rocks at Otis.

Bridge club? You'd have to be really strong to use a bridge as a club.

I hate that youtube puts those stupid cards up over the end of the video. And worse, it only happens if I'm on my phone. On the Xbox or my laptop, they don't show up because I disabled them in the settings menu (or adblock takes care of it), but the mobile app or mobile site shows them regardless.

Fantasy NPC: Mr. Chamomile, Tea-Maker

Have a cup of tea and tell him of your day...

I was all ready to rant about 2nd shift not doing the laundry again, but I found a loophole. There are 3 jugs of stuff that feed into the washer: detergent, sanitizer, and fabric softener. The sanitizer was empty, and I can't find any more. So, I'm just going to dry and fold the 2 loads of towels that 2nd shift did do, wash and dry the cleaning rags, and call it a night, leaving the 4-5 more loads of towels untouched. Because I don't think it's a good idea to give the guests unsanitized towels.

You may ask "What about the cleaning rags? Surely those need sanitized too?" And I would agree, but for 2 things. A) They get used with cleaning solutions that should effectively sanitize them when used, and B) it shows that I was willing to do more than I did.

Of course, I fully expect some sort of a note/text/something from the manager about it, but if they did their job and made sure we had the needed supplies (I didn't notice any more fabric softener, either, but the jugs look nearly identical to the detergent, so it's possible that some of what I thought was detergent was actually fabric softener.), then I would have done my job.

A month ago, I told the manager to her face that we were out of manilla envelopes for the paperwork. She said she had already ordered more. We never got them, so I used rubber bands. Last week, I told the Front Desk Supervisor to her face that we still had no envelopes and were now out of rubber bands. She said she would send the maintenance guy to the store and buy both. We still have neither. And I'm past caring.

The Front Desk Supervisor was working 1st shift this morning, and showed up 40 minutes late. So that sucked.
