SOOOOOOOO HAPPY!

LOL. Yeah, you won't have to deal with him living it up in his WhimseyShire "isolation ward" where we have to bring him everything and assume he has COVID for the next 10 days.

He's going to be intolerable.

And I'm still ecstatic to have him coming home.

EDIT: Maybe a bit TOO ecstatic...

LoL NH, however, glad you are on the mend Impus Major, don't take TOO much advantage...just a moderate amount of advantage. :)

Best of luck with their recovery, I only hope they don't end up dealing with anosmia or parosmia as those severely impacted myself and my wife after we caught ill of COVID before the vaccinations were available. The effects of it were absolutely devastating to our appetites and even the ability to be in the same building as some of our personal trigger smells.

To this day my wife cannot stand the smell of cooking ground beef, bagged bread, and strong garlic. For me, popcorn, corn tortillas/chips, and most things with chili pepper seasoning (but not other peppers) were the worst offenders but luckily my parosmia is nearly gone at this point.

We ended up pretty much having to try sniff/taste test everything in our cupboard, fridge, and freezer as they smelled like living death to both of us, strangely enough, due to different foods and we had to pitch nearly half of it. I ended up losing about 15 lbs (which is crazy as I've only ever weighed at most 160 lbs at my heaviest) dealing with it but my wife ended up shedding nearly 30 lbs during this time, though much of that can also be attributed to her exercise routine but the weight just fell right off both of us as we just couldn't bear to eat most things we were used to beforehand.

Our friend had the exact opposite reaction: Almost completely lost his senses of taste and smell, and still doesn't have them back a year later.

But he had the exact same issue: He lost about 30 pounds because food had no appeal to him; it was just something he had to put in his mouth to survive.

I'm really thankful Impus Major doesn't seem to have suffered either of those effects.

And THAT is how "online" shopping is "done".

Impus Major's friends' parents have been desperate to help out. One of them asked, "Can I go grocery shopping for you?" She lives two blocks from Andronico's. I gave her the list of what the Safeway shopper missed.

I guarantee I'll get the correct ingredients from the correct store.

And I'd love to pay her back for them, but I guarantee I'll never see that receipt.

I'm still undecided as to which of the following is true about FaWtL:

1) It is in fact a PBP that went off the rails.
or
2) It is all done by a single person in an attempt to mess with everyone else in the world.

And now begins the ultra-fun game of, "Wait for the U.S. health care bill".

We have fairly good insurance, but my assumption is that we're going to easily hit the out-of-pocket maximum ($2000 in-network, $6000 out-of-network) because somewhere, somehow, taking our kid to the hospital with an inflamed heart isn't a fully-covered service.

I may be surprised; Impus Minor's $31,000 broken arm surgery ended up costing us a little under $800, but the whole, "You'll have no idea what you're going to pay until you receive the bill," approach to medicine really is quite terrifying.

(Impus Major almost started trying to deny treatment because he'd heard so many horror stories of COVID bankrupting families, so we had to reassure him that our insurance would cover almost all of it.)

Making a nasty face about U.S. health care. Though awful noble of the lad to worry bout the costs of treatment. Just glad he is home and ok, though hoping the Lady's Favor kicks in one more time and you don't get a mountain of a bill. No one should go broke because of medical care, the very fact it does happen in this nation is infuriating. Gettin' off my soap box now :).

Shiro's reassurances were the best -- even with all his cancer treatments and surgeries, he didn't approach the lifetime max on his corporate insurance so he was OK. And his treatments were surely an order of magnitude higher than Impus Major's. Our bill may be $0, $200, $2000, or $6000, and we're fortunate enough to be in a position to be able to afford any of those amounts. But that's sure as h*** not true of most families, and the simple fact that I went over my insurance policy in detail and I still have no idea what I'll be paying is pretty depressing.

The math itself is almost as bad as taxes. Since the math involves life-saving treatments, it's worse.

And we're likely far over the line into the political, so I'll be off now. Though for fun once I get all the bills I'll post a grand total (amount billed vs. amount paid) because it's always an eye opener. But that'll likely be 2-3 months from now.

Speaking of politics and depressing, last night we watched "Don't Look Up", a very political and depressing dark "comedy".

What intrigues me is I wonder how many people even noticed the single-most-depressing scene of the movie for me:

Major plot spoiler:
A "life boat" of 2000 people leaves Earth for the nearest habitable planet. As they debark, you cannot help but notice the population distribution: Almost entirely old white men, a few old white women, and one older Black man who absolutely stood out in his uniqueness. I couldn't re-watch the scene (GothBard was already too depressed), but I don't believe I saw a single woman of child-bearing age in the entire group.

And it just rang as far too true for me: Those in power choosing personal survival over survival of the human race. It really is what's wrong with those in power today, and the movie did it oh-so-subtly but oh-so-beautifully. "Here's who would end up in such a lifeboat," and you have to look at them and say, "Hey, wait a minute! How are they going to have kids? Oh, well, so much for the human race."

So I played The Outer Worlds and watched It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. And did the dishes.

Marvel Movie Timeline #8: Thor: The Dark World:

Ok, wow. You really have to overcome a staggering amount of stupid to try to enjoy this movie...
...and yet I still had fun.

But seriously...
...the dark elves existed before the universe, in an age of utter blackness, but have eyes?!?!?!
...the war between Asgard and the dark elves lasted from the beginning of the universe all the way up until the convergence 5000 years ago? So a 14+-billion-year war? And nobody in Asgard remembers it just 5000 years later?
...every 5000 years the worlds converge and cause cataclysms across all nine worlds, yet the Asgardians decided to sit around and do nothing to prepare for it!?!?!?

I'm sure there's more. Tons and tons and tons more.

The entire movie exists to be an insult to your intelligence.

Other than that, it's a pretty fun watch.

Impus Major's hospital release document included a really interesting statistic:
36% of all patients admitted to the hospital with COVID show at least some sign of myocarditis.
0.0041% of all patients receiving the Moderna vaccine develop detectable myocarditis.

Given those two numbers, and the fact that Impus Major had both COVID and the Moderna vaccine, they chose to believe that it was COVID rather than the vaccine.

The numbers agree with them, but Impus Major's timeline of symptoms don't. But we'll never know.

It really sounds like a clash between mythic chronology and scientific chronology. The most likely the Nine Worlds are a complex of worlds separate from the universe we are living in, with its own, probably-shared-between-the-nine-worlds-but-not-with-Earth universe-time that is at odds with ours.

The unpreparedness for convergence... Odin has consistently shown he is not at his best for... Well, ages.

I think you're the first person to include "it's a pretty fun watch" in a review of Thor The Dark World that wasn't getting paid to do so.

Personally, this and Iron Man 3 are my least favorite Marvel movies in the MCU phase and I'm glad they went with a different direction on Ragnarok.

Betting you mean the terror that is Hemovorous the varkid queen. She is worth it on decent mayhem levels due to the good dedicated legendary drops, but she is a pain in the arse to kill. I have an armory the gods themselves would envy in that game, what mayhem level and character level/type you doing Drejk, I could send you some weapons and such. I forgot about Hemovorous, actually. I referred to The Seer that is at the end (I presume) of the Ava's Mysteriouslier quest chain, which was a tedious damage sponge for me in her second and third phase, despite setting my element to corrosion. Her stream of projectiles was terribly annoying often not giving me enough time to hide behind the cover, especially when I was busy having to kill her summoned minions to not get killed by them.
