Yes. Yes I am. This is the job I want.

I had this interview today. I've been asked back for the third round.

Woo hoo! Congratulations!

EDIT: Maybe more celebration than you wanted to see, but whatevs.

I will accept the celebration.

You're starting to sound like me, you'll do great!

Best of luck, Freehold.

I was successful in procuring a cruiser bike for Crookshanks' birthday on Friday, I was expecting I'd have to assemble it myself so you can imagine my disappointment when the guy at the order pickup wheeled it out, especially since I had to drive back to the shop to borrow a truck because you're not fitting an adult bike in my car. But the store was only a five minute drive from the shop so it wasn't too bad.

And as a bonus Crookshanks got an early birthday present.

I didn't mean for this to be Home Barber night, but Teensy Valeros decided to start cutting his own hair in class today and caused a bit of a ruckus, and as I was setting up on the back deck to do his, Hermione asked if I could trim her ends, and then Dr. Darling politely reminded me that he's been asking me for a haircut for a couple of weeks now. It only took about two and a half hours and I only cut my right hand in four places, and dinner was over an hour late.
Also, when you cut hair outside, it manages to creep inside your clothing and it itches like mad. How does it get inside my bra when I am fully clothed?

I'm actually bringing long hair back in style. Since I started 3 other guys have started growing their hair out.

About to go home. Good night, everyone.

Had a dream today. Don't know what it was about, all I know is I said "I've had enough of this bullshit, I'm waking up now", and then I woke up.

If you can learn how to do that in real life let me know.

No. If I tell you the secret then it might stop working for me. Like how you can't tell people what you wish for when you blow out the candles on your birthday cake or it won't come true.

Well that's a welcome surprise! I was trying to remember how long I've worked here, so I logged into the payroll site and was looking around at my "job history". I did find what I was looking for (I started here in May of 2012), but more importantly noticed that I had been given a pay raise effective this coming paycheck. Now, last year they didn't give me a raise because 1) COVID had pretty much killed all travel, and 2) the hotel was basically closed at the time. But this year, they certainly made up for it. I got a 10.34% raise. Pretty damn good if you ask me. The previous largest raise (in percentage) I'd gotten was 5%, and that was like 7 or 8 years ago.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yeah I had to actually go and ask for the raise but it should be going through soon.

I will say that is one thing I've never had to do here: ask for a raise. With the exception of last year, they have always given me a raise on my hire anniversary. Payroll is like the one thing that they do pretty good with. I haven't heard any other employees complain about it (although they may have had troubles that I haven't heard about), and the only issue I ever had was a couple of years ago. I didn't get paid for some vacation time I took, but I pointed it out to the manager and they got me a check overnighted from corporate.

I've been coughing up a lot of black feathers lately. Doctor is pretty sure I caught CORVID.

I use a set of electric clippers to buzz it all down to about .25". Then let it grow for 4 or 5 months and do it again.

The internet is a terrible place. So many people making stories that take all the attention from real heroes, like me. The man who beat a volcano into submission.

Global Megacorporation is bizarre in that it can't figure out why it constantly loses top talent to the competition, then executives like my SVP make statements like the one he did yesterday: "Nobody deserves a raise. I don't believe in giving everybody a raise just for the sake of giving out raises. If you get a raise, you'll know it's because you're special."

Which indicates that this man has never heard of inflation or cost-of-living. He's asking all of his non-special employees to take pay cuts every year for the honor of continuing to work for him. And many of them quit and go elsewhere instead.

What a surprise! :-O

The problem is, all of the executives feel that way. So whenever we get a really good PM, support person, or engineer, we get everything we can out of them as quickly as possible because we know they're not going to stay here more than a year or two. Easy to get hired, impossible to get fired, but tons of people choose to walk away anyway because none of our management believes that inflation exists.

Because for them, it simply doesn't exist at the most basic levels. Saying much more would send me deep into a Fritzy Frenzy, but let's just go with this: They have no idea how much a gallon of milk is, but even if they did it wouldn't make a bit of difference to them if it was $1.15, $2.20, or $4.75. It's just insignificant digits for their personal budgets.

I made it to the double doors corner of the house, on the other side of the house from where I started laying pavers. This is a pretty big deal, because it's a huge f@%~ing house.

Of course we still have a shitload of pavers to lay down as we go around the corner and then branch into the outside kitchen.

You would think that the landscape designer and coworker would stop acting like they're both better than me at this when they get together. They are not, yet they both think they can boss or push me around when they get together, but the boss loves it when I don't let them, which is always.

Uh yeah, the patio curves perfectly, I'm the one that climbed onto the third story roof to make sure. And, I'm also the only one who is afraid of heights.

Thankfully the boss is aware of how much I do so it doesn't bother me, just waves crashing ashore.

Congrats! Just make sure you have some ibuprofen or naproxen set aside. And try to get it in the shoulder on the side of your body you don't sleep on.

I'll be able to register on Thursday (assuming no systemic f-ups*), because registartions for regular citizens (unlike for people in sensitive positions and conditions) go by the birth year.

Taking into account dates, I be lucky to get the first date around end of May, though no one knows what I will actually get. Maybe I will get lucky.

*like the 1st April... when the system glitched and a lot of people who pre-registered got message informing them about openings and being asked to register, which was later explained as a system error, though some of the people who got registrations that way got to keep them

This is why IT either loves me or hates me:

(1) A new feature was missing from our build, so I notified the PM.
(2) The PM responded, "That's not in the base build, but there's a workaround. Let me fix it for you," and he did.
(3) I was reviewing my notes from a talk he did on March 24, and he mentioned that there was a security privilege that unlocked a secret area of the application, but he wouldn't tell us what it was.

I finished my "real" work early this afternoon so in 12 minutes I'd figured out the security privilege, assigned it to myself, and figured out everything the PM did to fix our image, and I can do it whenever we need it.

Some IT staff/PMs love this because it saves them time and they trust me.
Some IT staff/PMs hate this because they want control or they don't trust me.

My co-workers? I just scare them.
