I'll spoiler this, just because it might upset people, but:
So, I just lost my first "friend of a friend", which isn't something I need sympathy for, since I'd never met the man, but it does bring home to me just how global this is.
I've been working with "Raj" in the U.K. for 16 years now, and we've bailed each other out of a lot of jams, and constantly joke about how many drinks each one of us owes the other. So although I've never met him, I definitely consider him a friend as well as a co-worker. And Raj just lost his dad to the coronavirus.
So another tragedy among tens of thousands caused by the virus, but they're creeping closer and closer to home for me. GothBard put it well: "We can only hope that this is as close as it gets for us."
And there's nothing to do but wait it out and see...

steven conforti of the gaming community has posted that he was COVID positive. I have only met him a few times, but he is a decent sort. It appears he is on the recovery path, so not a loss for us yet, but it is closer than it was.
On a closer personal note, my gym is about 200(?) people. We all know each other by face if not buddy-buddy. One of our first responders/health care workers in that community is positive. We do not know which one, but that is VERY close.
Before this is over, I expect I will have at least one in my circle of friends that is lost to the virus.

Well, it turns out that being an obsessive-compulsive shop-aheadder has additional advantages: In an article about how washing fruit with soap was actually worse for you than washing it with water, it pointed out that the virus hasn't been seen to persist on any surface for more than 72 hours, so honestly, the safest approach to shopping was to buy everything, leave it sitting around for 3 days, and then use it.
And they said that was an "unrealistic" expectation.
They've obviously never met me...

I'm only sharing this because I think it's quaint and the pictures are awesome. It's an article about a woman living in Berkeley during the 1918 pandemic, and the pictures and posters are just too eerily familiar.

If you never hear from me again its because I got a life sentence in prison for murdering the enormous ass wipe that has now started setting off fireworks because I AM hadding out with the intent to at minimum drag his balls up trough his open mouth.
How could you end in prison? I can testify you were stuck here in Poland when that guy meet his well deserved unfortunate end!

I spent my day driving to Joliet (I'm sure some of you are marveling at the incredibly scenic photo I sent of Joliet) and back to get some pavers for a job because distribution is all sorts of f!*!ed up and gas is so cheap.

The Humbling:
(1) Trying to do once-a-week groceries for a family of 4, including two teenage boys, resulted in a grocery bill just north of $300 and five packed-full reusable bags.
(2) GothBard had to rush back to work, so I had to carry said bags, weighing a total of around 85 pounds, the two blocks back home.
(3) Feeling pretty good about being in decent shape for a 52-year-old.
(4) Going out back and seeing the SIXTEEN 60-pound bags of concrete the one guy had carried into our back yard in the afternoon, plus quite literally a ton of lumber.
(5) Suddenly not feeling quite so in shape.

I walk a mile home with at least 60 pounds of groceries once a week.
45 minutes worth of yard work is a light workout for me (and would probably take anyone else twice as long).
I won't tell you how many bags of concrete I moved from one shed to the other yesterday.
Also, every snow run I had to load a dozen bags of salt in my truck.

The high schoolers I've been training/torturing for the last two years are all grown up and working on their own, which means I get to train/torture my own high schooler at work this summer.

Also, we're back down to 2 people with my first name at work (we were up to 4 at one point this winter) as Fat Pervert Captain quit and Salt Truck Captain up and disappeared.
It used to be when someone disappeared I assumed they were hunted down for sport by Big Tyler and his 7,000 dollar dog (no, it is not bionic, as far as I can tell) but now I don't know if they were hunted down or the covid got them.

My dad was born as a conjoined twin, but doctors successfully separated him and his brother. Now I have an uncle, once removed.
I'm always left wondering how some end up twice removed...

Today I switched all the labels on my wife's spice rack. She hasn't noticed yet, but the thyme is cumin.
I would make up a spice pun to sound very sage but I'm not very oregano.

The neighbor's dog pooped in my yard, so my wife said to take the shovel and throw it over the fence. I did, but I don't see how it could possibly help. Now they have my shovel and there is still s@&$ in my yard.
That's a crappy thing for your wife to tell you to do in the first place anyways.

Say what you will about the prequels but they are still better then the last 3 sequels. With the exception of mandalorian I could care less about the star wars franchise from this point on. Episode 8 turned me off to the franchise and 9 was a nail in the coffin.

Rogue one was decent. Mostly worth watching if for nothing else the Vader scene at the end. Solo was a hard meh.
I wanted to get in to the new ones but it just didn't resonate with me. They should of went with the books their is some cool characters in there. Also the threat of the movies was getting ludicrous death star can destroy a planet. ok now we have a bigger one that can destroy multilple planets and then finally *spoilers* 200 ships that can each destroy a planet that came out of nowhere. The stakes got raised to the point of silliness with no reasoning behind it. Like before you know why the empire had all the resources they had an entire galaxy to fund them but where The F did the money and personnel for all those ships come from? They should of just grabbed the star forge from the old republic or something.

Presidential election were set for 10th of May. For the last month, there were strong voices from the opposition and from the citizens to postpone elections (which is legal in case of emergency situations - but the government refused to institute formal state of emergency to avoid postponing the elections) as a threat to public safety and because of the lockdown there is no electoral campaigns happening... Except the incumbent president who goes around the country and shows how "handles" the pandemic, while all other candidates are following the safety guidelines.
There was a spot of hope, when city mayors across the Poland opposing the elections declaring that they will use their means and position to block elections on a local level due to safety reasons...
And now the ruling party pushed an unconstitutional legislation for mail voting to evade the mayoral block.
The change is unconstitutional on multiple levels: election regulations can't be introduced within six months of elections, election regulations can't be introduced in state of emergency (which we de facto have, with the restrictions on public movement, transportation, etc., except never formally declared), the legislation demands that the voter has to send identifying data together with the vote which violates constitutional warranties of voting being confidential.
Yesterday, we still had a spot of hope was that Senate (higher chamber of parliament, where the ruling party still lacks the majority) will be able to delay their work until the latest possible date, 5th of May, leaving not enough time before elections to take the effect and forcing the elections to be delayed, but the ruling party added provisions giving them the right to set the date of elections as they please, instead of following constitutional procedures.
The logistic nightmare of doing it is the least of the problem, as the ruling party will be using their own workers in place of the independent electoral committees (which should have been assembling by now, but, well, epidemic lockdown). There are legal provisions threatening up to three years prison sentences for vague crime of hiding the voting letters - and a strict demand that citizens have to send the voting letters back signed (which also violates constitutional warranty of free voting, which also constitutes the right to not vote)... With no though given to people being abroad, or those who refuse to pick voting letters from their mail-boxes in the first place.

Them not following the books doesn't bother me because A) I never read the books, and B) they said they weren't going to. Yes, there are plot holes, but so what? Every series has them. And if they had taken the time to explain how Palpatine raised the Sith fleet, then people would still complain. Whether about how "unrealistic" it was, or that it took too much time and made the movies boring. Sure, I would have preferred if they had left Palpatine dead and found some other threat, but in the end it really doesn't matter. Were 7, 8, and 9 great movies? No. But really, neither were 4, 5, and 6. Try watching them again and you'll find plenty of nonsense. But, in my opinion, 7, 8, and 9 were better than 1, 2, and 3, and at least gave an ending to the Skywalker arc. Now, if they chose to, they can go forward and make new stuff, and I am mildly interested in seeing what they do with it.
I mean if we just rated them by action scenes. 1,2,3, puts all the rest to shame. The war battles, the starship fighting, let alone the Jedi fights which were all incredible. Even pod racing was ground breaking for it's time.
