I sure am glad I got up so early to make this flight!

Gary Teter wrote:

That reminds me of an old philosophical question. If you replace every part of the plane one piece at a time, at what point does it stop being the same plane?

My guess is, when it falls out of the sky.

Especially if you're doing the replacing in mid-flight.

I don't think you want these brains. Seriously, people watch this stuff on purpose? These people just won't stop talking and it's clear they have no idea what they are talking about. The commercials are a welcome break.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Oh hey, the captain is talking. I'm not sure it's reassuring when he uses the phrase "that's actually a good thing."

And now it's three hours delayed. But at least it won't fall apart at full power. If it passes the next test...

At what point does it stop being the same plane? When it is no longer called by the same name. I read somewhere that there is a castle in I think Tokyo that has the same name it has always had but in truth every piece ever used to build it with has been replaced at one time or another. Yet it is still the same castle, same floor plan same designs same name. It's "soul" has not changed.

I'm starting to think that maybe booking with the Grace L. Ferguson Airline and Storm Door Company wasn't the best idea.

Apparently our plane was able to roll across the pavement under its own power, so that's good.

So, worst case, they can drive the plane there. That's good news!

So a few days ago I found a few notes for an old Cyberpunk 20/20 game I was designing. I bring this up because of the idea posted earlier about transport tech. This was way before stargate, but since everyone knows what those are I will use that as a reference point.

Imagine stable constant stargates between cities. So for this game LA had 3 gates. Always on, with power and communication lines stretched through the opening. The gates are also about 3 times the size as in the stargate franchise.

Gate 1 was San Diego and Gate 2 was San Francisco while the final gate was Honolulu. All gates were at a transit center, but it was open like a big park. Couriers and people could go through upper levels via ramps and causeways; while some convenience belts moved boxes and "stuff" through the lower. Most of the lower level movement was underground and as such not open and the gates looked much like big arches.

So assuming you lived in LA you could drive to the parking area, then walk to the gates for a jog. Say you jogged to Honolulu where you find yourself with two possibilities. Stay in Hawaii or continue your jog through one of the other two portals. One which goes to Sidney the other to Tokyo. In Tokyo it has two other portals one to the north Island and one to the south. The one to the south had a portal to Taiwan and to the north portal and the northern had an additional one to South Korea. You get the idea.

So you could in effect if you knew the routes theoretically jog across the planet via these openings, that the scientists claimed were perfectly safe. All major cities had them. You could only have 3 in a small vicinity of each other. The only major city with an empty portal was Houston. The third was rumored to be set up for a base on Mars. if and when someone could place the other end there.

I was planning on posting this before, and in fact making a thread on it, but I figured no one else would care that much.

So I typed it up here :)

I just loved the idea. What a world like this would be. Where all major, or at least most major cities would be linked.

Also, they found another part that needed replacing while they were replacing the first part. So another half hour delay (that's 2.5 hrs total if you're playing along at home).

I am beginning to question the reliability of the aircraft I hope to eventually board.

I'm not making it up. Some scalliwags who don't know what's good for them are making it up. My nice little objective exam goes back in the folder, and out comes The All Essay Exam of Punishment.

I always loved those. I might make a mistake sometimes on multiple choice, but I could BS my way through any essay, including some where I just plain didn't read the book and still aced the exam. :)

Then again, after discovering how few of my classmates were ever taught basic things like spelling and grammar, I'm pretty sure most of those grades were just for turning in the one paper that didn't hurt the teacher's brain. ;)

Still sick. After three days this is getting really old. Even napping the entire day away wasn't enough to make me feel better. :(

So it turns out that this airline, after finding mechanical problems and fixing them, thereby uncovering more mechanical problems, and fixing those, and making passengers wait four hours in the airport, has no problem making said passengers wait another half hour in the plane before pushing back from the gate.

At least they got us booked onto a new connector flight. One that departs some 18 hours from now.

Paizo Employee Senior Software Developer

Oh, and that means a) we miss the ENnies, b) we'll be short one person working the register tomorrow morning, and, most importantly, c) Sara loses her True Dungeon slot, which she has been looking forward to for months. Good show, crappy airline!

I hate airlines. Gods the times I slept in airport seats waiting for connectors...

They make those things intentionally uncomfortable just to mess with you.

You might be able to drive there if you are close enough, way before you'd get there in a plane.
