... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now the lady lion is not doin' so hot.

(I mean, she's still hot, but not feelin' how hot she is, but not in the hot-hot sense, but it's more like hot as in hot, not hot... dang it, English slang, why you so fail me?!)

Firedove is feelin’... notsogud. But went to work anyway, because the idea of having to make up a missed day is more nightmarish than teaching a large number of rowdy, distracted, frustrating seniors while extremely sick. On a Friday. ‘Dat makeup work, yo. School teachers don’t play around. (But school is a terrible beast of a boss.)

EDIT: Youngest finally broke his fever last night, though he’s still sick. Eldest isn’t feeling good, but he’s neither feverish nor vomitious, so in he goes. I’m the sane one, I tell you! ThE sAnE oNE~!

I like hiking and all that, but not enough to spend a night sleeping on hard ground. I'll only cover distances that can be hiked in a single day, and so far in tropical conditions, a backpack + fanny pack is sufficient. Sorry Drejk.

There should be a nice bottle pouch somewhere in there... I know, I translated description of that darn thing (bidon pouch) :P

Although, I'd expect that transport costs to Singapore might not be worth ordering one or two things only, so yeah, unless you'd found more pieces that you like (waist bag/pouch, flight bag, camera pouch), there might be no point for you in backing this :(

I watched the next generation and voyager growing up. But not deep space 9, so we're catching up on that on netflix. In season 2 at the moment. I love Odo.

DE9 was, as I recall, the best of them. Of course, I also recalled TNG as “the serious one” and I’m at a 1 for 2 on that so far, so. Salt grains. Refolleftions. Take together.

It would be nice if it succeeded and not wasted the time I spent translating a lot of it.

If you know anyone who could be interested in such gear, share it with them, please.

OK. That stuff is really awesome-looking... except...

...I used an almost-identical concept to travel Europe for 7 weeks back in 1987: It was a full backpack with straps and waist belt with a zipper panel so you could hide the straps and turn it into a suitcase, and a day pack that zipped onto the back and provided extra volume. So exactly the kind of modular, multi-use luggage that's shown on the site, except using zippers for all the attachments.

The one shown on the site is higher-quality than the one I used, but I just bought a set of dedicated packs for the kids earlier this year so...

Well, today is going to be an interesting day in NobodysLand, which isn't necessarily a good thing:

  • I have meetings from 8:30 - 10:00 am, and then maybe an hour's worth of post-meeting follow-up, but then I'm really done with all of my work for today. And I took all of next week off. So I will be sitting there with an entire afternoon at work to kill, with nothing to do. I do not react well to such situations. Fortunately, my manager is pretty reasonable and so she'll either find work for me to do (she's so stressed she's pulling her hair out right now, so if she can offload some administravia to me she'll be ecstatic) or let me quit pretty early (2:30 pm's about her limit). But yeah, I'll probably be posting a lot until I get marching orders.
  • The kids are off from school, so I can look forward to an entire day of harassment from them for things they can take care of themselves. *SIGH*. Teenagers.
  • Our earliest air purifier doesn't arrive until tomorrow (Amazon is sending mixed messages -- the order still says it's been shipped and is arriving tomorrow, but we also got the dreaded, "Your shipment has been delayed" e-mail, which I'm thinking they might have just sent to ALL customers in California who ordered air purifiers), so it's another mask day. I'm going to try to go on a walk over lunch with a mask on. We'll see whether it's effective.

  • Ah, well, at least I have plenty to do 'til lunch...

That's two characters, by the way. One is the assassin, the other is the psion.

My wife (in a fevered delerium last night) informed me that I would be making this one character, and promptly left me to figure out how to do that while she fell asleep.

I ended up adapting an old 3e prestige class, rando-rolling up a doppelganger for race (though I replaced its natural HD, because I mean, really, now), and making him a wilder (eeeeewwwwwww) with a single level of the prestige class.

We called it, the "Wistful on Buttbuttinator."
(It's a nod to older and even-more-terrible autocorrection/censoring functions, and derives from the name "Psion Assassin" even though the original class was "Cerebral Assassin" - okay, look, it was hilarious last night, okay?! ... also I love it so very, very much that I wrote it on my character sheet.)

His world (for reasons that are beyond me - yes, I'm aware that doesn't make sense) seems to be a vague pastiche of Blue Rose, Eberron, Forgotten Realms, and Points of Light.

He's a chaotic neutral doppleganger assassin (named "Ru") who became chaotic neutral by way of being hit by a powerful psionic effect and experiencing emotions for the first time. This was so profound and impactful, so life-altering, that he simply left whatever dangerous situation he'd been in, purposefully disappearing to obsess over these things for a year, before emerging with strange new abilities and a... sort of self-enlightenment (after a fashion).

He thereafter sought to find ways to utilize his new powers and chase that "high" of emotional thrill and moments, eventually finding his services useful at assassination.

He recently had a job go bad... not because it went poorly, but because he didn't complete the assignment. See, he was hired by some person (probably infested with or influenced by fiends or something, I don't know) to kill a little boy; he infiltrated the area and, in disguise, got close to said kid, while reading his mind. When he all emotion'd up and felt the love and trust coming from the child, he found himself unable or unwilling to do it for some stupid reason, and instead fled when the child's older sister showed up (leading to more weird emotions picked up from his own emotional turmoil and the child's adoration). He returned to said person with a, "Nope, kthnx" and got promptly beaten, stabbed, robbed, and left for dead at -5 hp (coincidentally, he stabilized, and that's enough that after a "long" rest, he woke up with 0 hp, and could thus stumble around). After slowly making his way out of allies and stuff, and sleeping for one more full rest in a back alley, he now has a shiny five whole hit points, but needs to find food, real rest, and shelter... faster.

Now if only I had a game to play.

(This is not a request. I'm already running two games. I do not actually want any of you to try to solicit me to play a game with said character. I'm just being wistful.)

Last day before vacation, and my students are GOOFY.
EXCEPT for my weird kid. He's better than usual.

Oh, and one of my three year olds taught me how to say "Allah bless you" in Arabic when I sneezed this morning, and kept insisting I try to correct my pronunciation until he eventually gave up and shook his head at me.

Have you looked through the adds-on section?

Anyway, if you know people who might be interested in such sets that can be mixed and matched by piece, and then combined into different purpose sets out of parts owned, let them know.

In other news, how managers and employees should work together:
    This morning:
NobodysHome: So yeah, as soon as we have this meeting and I do the follow-ups from it, I'm pretty much done. I'll be out of work to do by 11, and that's really way too early to call it a day.
NobodysManager: Well, let's see... you could do some of that Java research you said you wanted to do (really? On a Friday?), or... wait!!! I'm doing all kinds of reviews and final edits today! Can you help me with that?
    ...4 hours later...
    NH: OK. All wrapped up.
NM: Oh, my goodness! I can't tell you HOW much I appreciate you getting that off my plate! That's it! You're done! Go home! You're on vacation! I don't want to hear from you for a week!

So... I got off work over an hour early, AND my manager was grateful to me for doing it! Win-win!
