There are moments when you are can be proud of Fandom...
In a bit over a month, 150,000 złotych (almost exactly $40,000) was collected by fans of fantasy, sf, and rpgs, for a cancer drug for a friend (and old player) of mine.
The drug happens to be not refunded in that particular diagnosis by National Health Fund, which prompted the fundraising.

Grrr I just got yelled at at my mom for no reason - she was pissed that my dad was late in submitting the drivers details for his traffic summon. I believe that the Singapore police probably has better things to do then put people in jail for being late to submit traffic summons drivers details. My mom didn't believe me, saying that it isn't his first time committing traffic offenses. Look, committing traffic offenses like speeding, sure it isn't his first time, but being late to submit traffic details it is. They're two different stories handled by two different departments. Why do I even have to be dragged into things that aren't my business?!
I really hate late night arguments because it affects my sleep(when people yell at me late at night it'll just linger). Which is why I'm still up, despite having taken drowsy cold medication..too keyed up to sleep.

MMORPG Fun Idea for the Day
(1) Pick a random MMORPG, create a new character, and sign in
(2) Accept the very first unsolicited guild invite that hits you, which should be within 30 seconds of signing in
(3) PM the inviter, "Oh, I'm sorry. My friend said I shouldn't join your guild because you guys are really mean. I shouldn't have accepted."
(4) Block the inviter so they can't defend themselves
(5) (Optional) If you don't mind being banned from the game, find the guild vault and try to loot it before you go
(6) Quit the guild
(7) Repeat until bored.

And I'm going to second (third?) Freehold's vote for Mumen Rider.
Mumen Rider knows he's useless; he knows he's a speed bump there to do nothing but slow down the monsters enough that no innocents will be hurt until the "real" heroes get there. He spends much of the series in the hospital. But he never gives up. He never feels hopeless. He tries his d**nedest to protect people even though he's got nothing. And he's become the #1 C-class hero with no powers at all. Heck, *he* was the one who got Saitama to the Sea King. And the only time Saitama has ever looked truly pissed was when the Sea King was done with Mumen Rider.
Genos, on the other hand, is full of vengeance, carelessness, and collateral damage. Yeah, he took an acid bath to save a little girl (not spoilered above, so not spoilering here), but against the mosquito queen he would have accidentally incinerated an innocent... if that innocent hadn't happened to be Saitama. (And it is interesting that Genos remains the only character in the series who has managed to damage Saitama's clothing.) He is property damage incarnate. He is careless, and doesn't care whether innocents die in his pursuit of justice (the destruction of the genetic research facility before checking for innocent workers inside, for example).
No, if you want "power", you take Genos. If you want "heroism", you take Mumen Rider, even if Mumen Rider is a nigh-useless hero.
Though I'd argue against that. Even against the biggest attackers in the series, he's there, getting innocents to safety, coordinating evacuations, and simply doing anything he can do to help. His only issue is that he can't do much.
EDIT: I could probably find more examples, but they'd be from the manga books 8-14, which haven't come out in anime form yet... January will (hopefully) be a good month -- issue 15 in English, and Season 2 of the anime.

Well, it's the usual frustration with people who can't help but be a$$hats, especially when online.
At my friends' request, I started up an alternate character for FF online. I hadn't done the tutorial in a couple of years so I was looking forward to working my way through it to see whether there were some basic gameplay tips that I was missing (it happens more often than I care to admit).
But you sign in and:
Tutorial: Now use the ASWD keys to move.
Guilder: BAM! Unsolicited invite before you've taken a step!
Player: .
Guilder: BAM! Another unsolicited invite! Right on top of the tutorial window! So close you might accidentally accept...
And on, and on, and on.
In my first 20 minutes of play I got over 12 guild invites. They're disruptive, annoying, and block out your screen from what you're actually trying to do. And because the designers thought that guild invites would be an "exclusive" thing and people wouldn't just spam 'em willy-nilly, there's no easy mechanism to block them. They just pop up in a large window on your screen. Every. Single. Time.
So tonight the group wants to create a "suicide squad" of evil lalafells just to run around being stupid for an evening, and none of us are looking forward to the spamstorm of invites in store...
...I figure messing with 'em will be more fun than trying to politely ignore them.

I dunno. This is a nation famous for caning a guy for chewing gum a couple decades ago. I don't think "better things to do" comes into the equation.

EDIT: I don't know whether it's Native American lore, or modern coincidence, but the big quakes around here tend to hit on hot, dry, windy days (which also happen to be ideal fire weather), and we really don't get them all that often (once or twice a year, maybe?), so everyone says, "Uh oh. Earthquake weather!)
And then every century or so a quake hits during such weather and people say, "See?"

No "block guild invites"?! What kind of crappy game is that?!
Ok, I might have been spoiled by LotRO's option to block those, and polite inquiries via PM in the vein of "I noticed you don't have a kin, would you like to join our kin, blah-blah-blah..." "No, thank you, I am not looking for a kin", a few times a year.
If Genos doesn't care about human life in his pursuit of justice, than why does he use his very power core to try to take out the meteor when every other hero is saying to just escape?
He's flawed, for sure, but all good heroes are flawed. It's why Superman sucks, and why Saitama is actually interesting - because his story is exactly about how boring it would be to be a perfect superhero. Genos even admits his own arrogance is a shortcoming that he's trying to overcome - repeatedly throughout the series. Every time he gets his ass handed to him it's because he underestimates his enemy.
Seriously, though, the series has so many great characters. Does anyone else think that...
I really like the new Olympic-Athlete style girl, and Zombieman is getting some interesting backstory too. The new comics are really delving into the other S and A-class heroes a lot more.
BTW am I the only person who thinks that universe would be an amazing place to set a super hero tabletop RPG? The players rise through the ranks of the Hero Association, trying to make it to the very top while battling monsters, etc, earning points based on enemy ranks, popularity, and how many people actually know you do what it is you do?
I don't recall if RIFT allowed for blocking invites... That mattered not as I think that I created a single person guild for each of my characters just because of extra vault space and occasional guild perk.

…and while I do very well know the annoyance of being yell at by a parent, that tension, pressure and 'bad atmosphere' was all to often the prelude to things that were far worse.
But really Mort I feel for you. I just don't know enough about your situation to give any succinct advice…

Mumen Rider's Justice Crash is the desperation technique of every true cyclist. He sacrifices the mobility and speed inherent to riding a bike to slam his opponent with his only true companion, his ride. Without his bike, he has only his sense of justice and fighting skills to shield him. He goes in, knowing he is at a disadvantage, and fights on anyway, knowing he is saving lives with each precious moment his enemy spends fighting, seriously injuring, crippling or even killing him. He is willing to sacrifice his life for people he doesnt know, know him, or are even aware there is a fight going on.
That's not useless. That's a hero.

And my mom will go on a long rant that if my dad gets sent to jail for not furnishing drivers details on time it will be bad for his physical and mental health - etc. And she has to put up with it.
Now the notice said that you can be fined and sent to jail for not furnishing divers details by the deadline, but I suspect for first time offenders they'll probably just fine.

Thanks. Today my mom went on a rant about why she can't understand why everyone else says my dad is a nice guy. She complained that he must have been being a hypocrite.
Me: We all wear masks. Do you think we could go out and face society without one?
One thing is like my mom will ask me to do something then start second guessing if it was done properly or not (well, if you think I wasn't doing a good job, why don't you do it yourself?)
Then she asks me to show her how to do stuff, first time, I show her, get her to write it down, then she forgets how to do it, despite her earlier notes.
Of course, now, I don't bother showing her how to do it, just do it for her, then she asks me why I don't show her how to do it.
Me: I could show you, but you'd forget anyway, so what's the point?

Like yesterday she was complaining why I didn't use the 9" box for my cake baked out of a 9" tray. Look, I agree that the 12" box is too big, but they only came in 9" and 12" sizes - don't you think using a 9" box is cutting it a little too close? What if it doesn't fit? I'd rather err on the size of large in case the manufacturer tries to cut corners.
And also why didn't I use the Tupperware container at home. Firstly, I didn't know we had one the right size, secondly, I don't want to deal with the hassle of collecting the container back.

I have a complicated relationship with winter, I do appreciate it, but it's way too long, at least six months of cold and snow.
Last year was 7 months and a week and a half.
But in fact I much prefer the warm weather seasons.
Seattle had it right, six months of rain and six months of sun.
I was more alluding to the fact I need boots and more than a single pair of jeans.
Fun fact: when going outside in winter I wear 25 pounds of layers (that would be 7 layers) or the equivalent of hide armor.
So yeah, I don't get cold.
Oh good, more rain, just what we need!

That's actually pretty solid advice. go NH! Yeah a good way to avoid arguments is look for what probably triggered it. Also sometimes people don't necessarily want a solution to there problem but just want someone to relate to them. so maybe try and just listen and even copy the emotional response as best you can to show you are aware that this bothers the person.

Guy keeps calling me worried that we aren't going to have his rooms he has a resrvation for. Even still I told him we still have like 30 rooms available and to not worry about it but he keeps calling. I guess it better then the ones who don't call and expct you to have the room waiting for them at 5 in the morning.
