Ah, nothing like starting the morning with a classic example of what it's like to work for Global Megacorporation:
Global Megacorporation: The new employee portal is now live! It's been completely redesigned to be much, much better! Here's a link! Go check it out now!
NobodysHome: (Navigates to new employee portal, 'cause he doesn't click links in e-mails. Ever.)
GM Portal: Internal Server Error

Yep. That's pretty much exactly what you expect from Global Megacorporation.

EDIT: And yes, one COULD debate whether or not an internal server error message was better than the old site, so there's that...

Well, the best part is that the *OLD* site was designed by technical people, so it was ugly as sin, but extremely functional: Down the left side of the page was a HUGE list of every department, division, or function you could ever want, all in alphabetical order. So it was, "Go to the home page, scroll down on the left, drill down."

Hideous, but efficient.

The screenshots of the new page are the classic, "Everyone wants their desktop to be an iPhone" approach to UI design, so the home page is just half a dozen big round meaningless buttons. Very pretty and colorful, but utterly useless.

Which, in a nutshell, is my opinion of modern UI design for desktops. It's a DESKTOP! Give me a DESKTOP UI!!!!

I forgot it was 9/11 until I saw someone say "Never Forget" on FB, and I had to ask myself "forget what"? Then I remembered.

Is that irony? Poetic justice? Something else?

Because I need to lose more weight before we flip races.

I'm trying to get into elf, but I need to lose weight or I'm gonna end up an orc. I do NOT want that. Do you think I'm gonna get laid with a pig nose? I mean seriously? Bugger that mess!

-----------

Also, on a subject like two pages earlier (I'm trying to keep up) I have been ranting for years that people should be semi-permanently sterilized at birth and made to take a class on basic budgeting, childcare, child psychology and the easy ways you can give your kid horrible horrible psychological disorders if you're a bad parent, and made to raise a dog for at least 2 years before being allowed to have a real child.

I'm sure that the other people who've worked in education here can all agree: most parents are awful at the most important job they'll ever have in their life.

You have to go through damnnear all that work to adopt a kid, taking him from the foster system and giving them a better life. Why not that and more for making a new human being?

I don't care where you are on any political spectrum. Adopting needs to be easier.

I spent my morning gluing caps three feet from where the huge f@&*ing excavator was digging out for the pool, after that I had to cut pavers two feet away from the rock pile the huge f!$+ing excavator was digging into to even out the hole it was digging out.

Didn't flinch.

Did you flinch when the crane operator swung the pool over your head?

I don't qualify as "several hundred miles" from it. But if you change "several" to "a" and add a gigantic 50 to that, then you're in the right ballpark. So I'm perfectly fine, right?

If I recall correctly, in Shadowrun, Chicago becomes infested with bug spirits and becomes Bug City.

* Technically detached duty. My character was hunting down a Nano-Bio-Chemical Weapons developer that had gone underground. He was very good with explosives and took out 50 ghouls infesting a cavern beneath a nightclub with an improvised Fuel-Air explosive mounted on a crawler drone.

This last weekend I went on a date downtown with the General for her birthday. We started at the top of State street where all the snooty places are and made our way down to the UW side where we stopped at Mooya burgers and shakes and then walked along the lakeshore before returning home.

One part that was fun is with fashion so cyclical in the Midwest all the college kids are dressing like the 90s and then with nostalgia selling all these shops that were open then are back but in different places so it was very much like taking a time machine back 20 years without having to worry about getting foot fungus from Craig Robinson's hot tub.

Sorry I'd like to apologize to everyone in FAWTL for not being here as often. My current PBP(yes, you heard it right) is keeping me busy(wow that's a feat), and as a GM, I feel you have the responsibility to do the best job you can at it(its your duty to your players).

Not to mention on work side, we're having office renovations so I need to pack my desk, and there's been a change in registered address, so I need to see how many contracts have been affected by that change. We don't want notices from our clients/vendors going to the wrong address.

And some dudes decided this is a good time to ask for KYC, so I'm studying the forms and trying to determine what information is required.
