The down side is now I have to create an entirely new form of magic for my crappy light novel world just so I can have time travel be a thing so that there can be three of a specific thing there's only supposed to be one of running around at once because reasons.
Which isn't really a downside per se but there is probably a limit on how anime you should go because you never want to go full anime.
Seriously.
Never go full anime.
I am not kidding.

Anyways at this point I'm hitting near fate//foobar levels of ridiculous phlebotinium for the purpose of explaining what basically boils down to a secondary form of magic that exists in the future for the purpose of time travel so that I can do a dumb thing I think is cool. All the underpinnings made sense already so it's just building off of established canon, but still...
This is the animeter right now:
E||||||||||||||-F
I'm getting dangerously close.

I think anything written by Tolkien is tedious =)
I suppose it's cool if you could plough through the whole thing but meh...lets just say it ain't for me.
Actually I was thinking about what Drejk said. Most thieves don't want to get caught. So if they get caught in the act, they would probably run away instead of attacking right?
I mean if you kill someone the crime is murder. Knock someone out and it'd fall under grievous bodily harm. Much more serious offenses then burglary.
And the thieves shouldn't try it again now the cops are around.
Random small theft is often done by hooligans and thugs with poor impulse control, and some of them are willing to beat crap out of someone for being seen.

I know when I worked at Walmart we weren't suppose to do anything to get in the thief way aside from let him know he was being watch subtlety. Really I didn't see any motivation they have insurance for that stuff and expect a certain amount of theft per day.
Sheer pragmatism. Risking violence is risking property damage and injury to staff, both more expensive than insurance and loses from theft alone. It's better to let the security and cops deal with it if they manage to come in time and wait for the leaving thief.

Can't you avoid time travel with some other form of shenanigans that could replicate the unique thingie?
Or tweak the reasons to avoid time travel?

I absolutely cannot avoid time travel without completely scrapping the idea. It's one of those ideas.
On the upside, the new form of magic isn't even unique so much as just from the future based on observations about the nature of reality that the present doesn't actually widely know or have the ability to properly abuse yet. So it's unique within the time, but eventually would become commonplace. Sort of like someone coming back from 4000 AD by being really good at javascript programming.

In general, yes: Thieves and wild animals should be treated the same. If you surprise them, provide them with an avenue of escape and they will happily take it rather than confront you. My by-no-means-physically-intimidating mother-in-law surprised a burglar in her home and started screaming at him. The path to the back door was clear. He ran. Unless they're really drugged out (an unfortunate possibility), they'll usually run.
If you corner or attempt to apprehend a thief, there will be violence.
That's why Wal*Mart's stance makes so much sense. A few hundred dollars' worth of stolen merchandise is far less expensive than worker's compensation for an employee getting hurt trying to save said merchandise.

I need to read the silmarillion but too many mixed reveiws is my hang up right now some people tell me not because apparently its tedious. I can't decide If I want to make that commitment or not.
Many, many things to say, but in brief:
I loathed the films because they were done "well enough" that no one will attempt to make a new set for a very long time, but again, Jackson made major character changes (since when was Aragorn a whiny emo boy? His whole character concept was based on his strength of will and determination that he would be king again, not a whiny, "Oh, why do *I* have to be king? Waaaaah!"), and the battle of Helm's Deep with the crowd diving? Just embarrassing. So the movies were so good no one's going to try again, but had significant-enough changes to frustrate me.
Why do you have to change things, Hollywood?

Superman is powerful. Superman is also as boring as...(Come on man, you can think of a good simile here, you got this...)...he's as boring as watching the Star Wars prequels with every single light saber fight cut out and enhanced commentary by Hayden Christianson on exactly how he channeled the angst and emotion of his character. Nailed it!
The Silver Surfer is powerful. The Silver Surfer also was never interesting to anyone over the age of seven.
Too much power = No enough conflict. Conflict = Necessary For Good Story.
As Penny Arcade illustrated, what's the point of any other character when you have that super-powerful ridiculous hero?
That's why I prefer Supergirl in the comics. She has actual conflict beyond the "a lonely god am I" that plagues Superman. Superman is basically Average Joe From Kansas With Godlike Powers. Supergirl honestly has trouble just fitting in enough to not be the strangest thing in the room.

You must not remember the 80's/early 90s programming. all the pacing was so much slower. some would argue richer.(really the further back you get the worse it is as far as pacing goes.) Some of it can be hard to watch now a days. things seemed needlessly stretched out etc. I think its just a generational change of mindset and maybe a bit of evolution on entertainment in general. I mean I don't have to take up for Tolkien his legacy speaks for itself. I think he wanted much more then just a story but rather an world with a rich history.
I don't think it's generational. Tolkien himself admitted there were a number of things he should have cut from the book, made into other books, or which didn't serve the plot as well. Basically, even Tolkien admitted he included too much detail and worldbuilding.

If a book sucks so much that you have to try multiple times over the course of decades to read it, it just sucks. There's no but in that situation. Literature shouldn't be a burden. It should be entertainment, not a job.
It's like grits. If you need to cover them with cheese, or sugar, or whatever the hell you throw in it to make it even kind of palatable, it's not a good food. You don't like grits. You like all the shit you throw on grits.
The Silmarillion (no, you don't deserve italics) is a piece of wretched dog shit. It's the worst piece of garbage I've ever even partially slogged through, and I was assigned Nicholas and Alexandra for a middle school gifted reading class, and boy oh boy, was that a major pile of excrement. It's a horrible historical drama about the last Czar of Russia's hemophiliac son, and you'd think that could be made into something slightly enjoyable, but it was not even close. I literally took a D in a class I otherwise had an A in because our reports were like 30% of our grade, and I refused to finish that regurgitated grit meal. ...and it was better than The Silmarillion. (This was the same class that assigned me Ender's Game, one of the best books I've read to date, though the movie is...just...so bad...)
If it didn't have the name Tolkien on the cover, it wouldn't even be paperback fodder sitting in the back of an airport duty-free shop, let alone a name most of us recognize.

So the new Blade Runner movie did not suck.
I was prepared to loathe it. I didn't.Also, anyone who hates LOTR needs to grow an effing attention span.
Except for Bombadil. Even Tolkien himself readily admitted that Bombadil's songs were the worst verse he'd written.
I take your opinion on blade runner seriously. I have a very serious connection to the film- without it there would be no bubblegum crisis, and I would not be invested in the career of kenichi sonoda as i am.
Im sorry, i have no love for lotr. I LOOOOOOOOOVE the hobbit. Love it so much I read it 2 times in one day. I will never ever like that disgusting movie with the singing dancing goblins that piss me off to no end....

I'm replying so I can favorite it twice as The Hobbit is one of the worst film trilogies I've ever seen.
I don't really remember Blade Runner besides Han Solo banging an Amish chick.

*sigh* I hate people...
Someones car was broken into I stepped out to see what was going on it scared them off but they took a few things and broke a window. Already talked to police etc. Man breaking into someones car and stealing their Christmas gifts while their on their way to see their family for the holiday. that is pretty low.
that is truly disgusting...

10 days at the gym today.
After a haircut (close-cropped and messy again, because lazy), and all that, I don't hate looking at myself in the mirror right now. (For all my arrogance, I usually do.)
I am, however, so goddamn tired. Hitting the brakes on my scooter felt like a workout after chest day. Seriously, you try stopping approximately 200lbs traveling at 40mph after you got done benching, incline pressing, and doing butterflies for the last hour. Not fun.
I ride a motor scooter. :-D Because I can (and because +/- 120 mpg, and no insurance required or motorcycle endorsement necessary)
