Heh. School is cancelled tomorrow. Most likely a result of many angry parents calling tonight. Which is what happens when you put kids in danger by making stupid decisions like refusing to cancel school for a massive storm.

My cat amuses me. Ignore her and she will happily cuddle for hours. Pet her and she is all like, oh that’s amazing, you have to stop, that’s too much purr, and walks off in a huff.
Meanwhile the other cat is like you can pet me! I like scritchies! Give me all the attention!

And, by the way: grabbed a job opportunity, and y'all will likely be reading much less of me for the foreseeable future. 16+ hour days, 6-7 days a week on average. I'll catch up with y'all as I'm able!

I firmly believe that Linux is superior, as pretty much the majority of my friends who are even remotely attached to computer sciences agree that it is - with the (possible) exception of the "big-corporation"-style professionals who deal with programs related to Windows-specific implementation all the live-long day, who generally have as little exposure to/familiarity with Linux as I do, as a result (though NH could share his particular thoughts, too).I thought I had before, but here we go again:
Microsoft Windows attempts to do everything for you, usually does it wrong, but there is typically a fairly straightforward mechanism (if you Google) to make it stop doing that.
MacOS attempts to do everything for you, usually does it right, but Heaven save you if you want to change that behavior.
Linux does nothing for you, and waits for you to Google the solution, which you can only implement if you understand the "flavor" of your particular kernel and how it updates.
So while I love Linux for its performance and its NOT DOING ANYTHING I DON'T EXPLICITLY TELL IT TO DO, it is definitely an operating system of the, "Oh, now I need it to do that? Time to break out Google and sit down for half an hour with a cup of tea to figure out how to make it do it."A well-configured Linux system is a joy. But you can expect to put in a good 20-30 hours of Googling and tweaking to "make it so".
(And yes, there are better and better Linuxes out there. The most recent versions of Ubuntu really impressed me, and I've been told that the Trinity desktop is even more Windows-like. But I've put in a well-configured Linux for "Windows friends" before, and they still get confused.)
I am not sure trinity is maintained anymore. And I help make lubuntu which is ubuntu with LXDE. Well I should do more but my dad thinks any time I am on my computer I am only having fun.

Typically, the severity of the ant invasions in November and December tell us how much rain we'll get over the winter. We've had... no ants.
Typically, we get at least an inch or two of rain by mid-December. We've had... virtually no rain.
Well, at least last year helped fill the reservoirs a bit...

I have watched monty python and the holy grail and did enjoy it but I enjoyed terry jones mideval lives more.

I don't get snow days in southern california but am wondering when there will be fire days for too much smoke to go to school.

ST on SW: while you've every right to hold to that opinion, the one I hold to is reflected in my views on originality: it matters not if something is original, only if it's done well - and, in fact, e4 and e7 were done well, while e1 was not.

Aiymi and I see about 3-5 concerts a year. This year we went to Greg Howard, California Guitar Trio, Stickmen (Tony Levin), Dream Theater, and Tommy Emmanuel. Next year we've already got Weird Al and CGT lined up.
Bit of a prog fan? (Me too, though it looks like we like different bands. King Crimson are coming to Manchester next year, though, and I really ought to go and see them...)

A couple of local bands.
So mainly jazz stuff.

Froot Loops and beer. Breakfast of champions. Just ask my friend. (Amazingly enough, one of the few non-deceased ones. I blame the diet.)The cereal conversation has reminded me how offended some of my close friends and family are that, when desirous of cereal and bereft of milk, I have on occasion used oil instead. I don't drown cereal in oil the way you do in milk, just enough to get it moist.
I regret nothing.
i think this weighs heavily upon what type of cereal you use along with what oil.
Very, very brave, culinary speaking. NobodysHome may have a deeper viewpoint.
Captain Danger Bear is also fond of vomiting up his own intestines first thing every morning.

I don't drink tequila, not sure why, but tequila and gin don't agree with me.
I also have serious issues with Vodka, bit that's more of a it makes me do crazy s*&& issue.

I got off at midnight, had to stop for groceries and gas on the way home and had to get up at 6 to make sure everyone else woke up.

In seriousness, though, I really can't say originality is the end-all, be-all of quality. There are some truly unique ideas out there that are rancid, after all. This isn't to say originality isn't important, though.
When I had seniors last year, I did a whole unit on the Monomyth/Hero's Journey using 1984, and we as a class talked about how pretty much every story follows that pattern in one fashion or another.
Archetypes exist for a reason. Plot patterns exist for a reason. Authors use them for a reason. Audiences recognize them and can find comfortable familiarity with them...which makes it all the sweeter when that originality does come into play and subverts their expectations to make something wholly new, albeit inspired perhaps by another source.
