For those who were interested, the management of Tekkosshokon has made a decision regarding the next head of the RPG Department. It isn't me. But I'm neither sad nor disappointed. I'm just glad that the department has leadership again.
Of course, I'm undressed. It's almost 10 PM EST. It's bedtime, and I'm tired. Have a good night, everyone. :)

@Capt Yesterday
Do you have the most number of icons on the board?
Do you know if there is a good icon for a young Imperial Staff Oficer?
Clean shaven, male.
Pardon the interruption, but I think this might suit your needs.

There is! If you want blonde, filter the images by date, it should be the first image. Otherwise it takes a little bit of looking but isn't too hard. I recommend my pillow fort guy. :-)

I'm sorry, man. I know how important that was to you.

Not so much. It wasn't about me. It never was. I simply worried that the department would wither and die without someone leading. Now that someone else is taking care or all the organizational paperwork, I can go back to being just a GM, making my life simpler. No. No working out schedules, counting tables, or dealing with GMs who don't show up for their shift for me. Just the game, and that's all that really matters. :)

Sometimes, you really wonder whether the authors of the Ultimate books were thinking everything through clearly:
There is one group of outsiders that it is more difficult to bind: the native outsider. A native outsider cannot be called and bound from the Material Plane. In order to call any outsider, it must be on a different plane from the binder. Native outsiders (or other outsiders currently manifesting on the Material Plane) can only be called and bound by spellcasters on a different plane.
So... my BBEG finds out there's a native outsider in the party.
He casts Planar Adaptation (4th level divine or 5th level arcane), Plane Shift (5th level divine or 7th level arcane) to the negative energy plane, and Planar Binding (6th level arcane).Heck if you need a circle; the summoned native outsider is snuffed instantly.
That aasimar giving you fits? Boom! They're dead! A troublesome tiefling? No more!
So all of a sudden, one 13th-level wizard who knows the party members' names can (and should) wipe out all the native outsiders. Even an 11th-level wizard with a cleric buddy could do it.
I learned all this because one of my kids (usually a great group) is getting into quite the spat with me because I won't let him use Planar Ally as a poor man's replacement for Raise Dead on his tiefling. It's a little strange, because through 4 books it's usually been,
"Hey, NobodysHome, can I do this?"
- An answer of either "Yes", "No", or "Let's talk about this".
"OK!"
This time I came back with an immediate and vehement, "No," and he's trying to convince me that I'm violating the rules. I am now trying to convince him that it's for his own protection, because anything the party can do, the bad guys can do, and vice versa.
Weird stuff.

I don't think that's not thinking everything through clearly as it is other people thinking and playing around with stuff that wasn't anticipated for. It happens with everything.

Yes, too true. One of the reasons it's so nice to hide the Rules forums is that you see too many arguments as to whether or not the mid-sentence comma was intended to completely separate the clauses or whatnot.
I just see going from, "It is possible to use Planar Ally to call native outsiders," to, "Oh, well then! It must be possible for the bad guys to use Planar Binding to grab the native outsider PCs," as much less of a stretch, since typically the only place native outsiders really come into play is with player characters...
It just seems like a clause someone threw in because someone asked, "What about native outsiders?", and the result is that PCs and NPCs can be whisked about willy-nilly via the Planar spells. Kinda silly.
EDIT: This just gave me a bit of an epiphany about myself: Some players really enjoy trying to come up with creative ways to work around restrictions imposed by the general rule set. They find it satisfying and rewarding. I am afraid that as a GM I genuinely dislike such players. (Not so much, "I use a bag of flour to defeat this guy's Invisibility" as, "Since both Create Water and Mage Hand have no save and no spell resistance, I use them to hold a 5-pound blob of water over the bad guy's face so he can't breathe or cast... and I'm going to argue he's blinded, too...") At least now I know...

For those who create monsters.
A variant of a Corpse Orgy, called a Kitchen Orgy or something.
The General has been working in the kitchen the last two days. So now everything is clustered in an amalgamation of dishes, pans, unwashed plastic containers and cans destined to be recycled, and whatever that is.
If I don't make it out alive, someone punch James Cameron, really hard.

At least now I know...
Silly perhaps, but it makes sense since they are still Outsiders.

What sword would you substitute for the Druid's scimitar?
I know the Druid has had this weapon since 1st ed AD&D, but the weapon is not even remotely historically linked to the Gaelic Druid.
Well, falcatas were used in Celtic Spain
Or the seax is (surprise!) Saxon/Germanic/Norse rather than Celtic, but I think it's pretty likely that the Celts would have had something similar.
Or just let 'em use longswords*
* That's what they've traditionally been called in D&D. Not a longsword if you ask me, but luckily, nobody has!

Things That Make You Go "Hmm":
The street sweeper just went by. It was curious, because it's not part of their regularly-scheduled sweep. Then I realized even more:
- It is a holiday, so most people are at home, meaning most of the parking spaces are occupied, hence the street sweeper did a very poor job
- It is a holiday, and the street sweeper driver is a government employee, hence he or she is making at least time and a half, and possibly more
- It is an off-schedule day, meaning someone had to actually plan this.
Hmm...

Thanks to all for the scimitar replacement suggestions, I am very appreciative of the links!
I actually know those types of blades. Still looking for the proper fit. And yes the sickle is definitely a Druidic in theme and fits but it's not a sword per se.
More digging for me.
What about the terbutje/macuahuitl?

Not Celtic, but might fit...

So I am just LOVING iZombie.
I don't know that it'll be everyone's cuppa, but the life and times of a young woman turned into a zombie and trying to continue to live a "normal" life just really resonates with me.
The actress also impresses me (as did the Sense8 actors and actresses) with her ability to play out different personalities without overplaying them to the point of hamminess.
A good, curl-up-in-the-rain-with-some-hot-tea-and-watch snugglefest.
Which is a fun thing to say about a show about zombies.
EDIT: Just for fun, NobodysHome's Watch List:
- Killjoys wins, because Season 2 was amazing. Season 1 is "Good".
- Dark Matter comes in second, because Season 1 was amazing, but Season 2 was "meh"
- Into the Badlands is a well-worth-your-time 6-episode festival of carnage. I wish they'd hurry up and make more
- iZombie has me utterly charmed at the moment
- Sense8 season 1 was awesome. If the Christmas special is any indication, it's going to go downhill fast, which saddens me
- And who could pass up Archer, a show about people who deserve each other?
We did really love the "Made for Netflix" anime series, The Seven Deadly Sins, though it looks like if it has a second season it's going to go way downhill.
And OMG Jean Claude van Johnson is side-splitting. I really hope it gets made into a series!
