Ok, naked fanfics are just bad.

And yeah, I discovered Sailormoon the summer after I graduated from high school.

That cracked me up on multiple levels - it reminded me of sailor moon (which has just been announced will be remade in Japan),

Whaaat!! How come this isn't head-line news?

Live-Action or the Anime? ...oh I don't care.

Yay.

Oh, wow, flashbacks to third grade and trying to get home early enough to catch the last ten minutes of Sailor Moon.
...and now I feel old. Used to rush home from class to watch it too. Just, you know, in college. The first attempt at college.

Sorry.

Karen is also a Sailor Moon fan. ~grins~ And yet she is the cool geek and I am the wierdo geek. It figures.

True & Sailor Moon, was one of the few anime that I cannot stand the dubbed version in the slightest.

I'd not worry too much. Dubs have gotten loads better over the years.

Isn't most fanfic naked? :p

hmmm...

should I dig out my old fanfics? One won a prize at an anime convention. Another was about 200 pages long before I wrote myself into a corner.

time travel is hard.

Again, I seriously can't thank you all enough for your help on this and other problems I've been having recently.

You're better with words than I am. Hope she takes it well.

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Wednesday. Although, in all truth, it's looking to be another marginally craptastic day. Got a multi-hour phone conference later on today. One of my co-workers will be at the meeting I'm calling in to, and it's sort of my job to make sure he doesn't say anything the rest of us will regret.

Good luck!

Dubs are for kiddies. Real foreign language fans know that subs are far superior.

Holds true for anime, horror fliks, whatever.

Great taste!

Well the husband meets with his supervisor as soon as he gets back about the trip. So I will know more very soon.

Until you can't read the screen for whatever reason.

I prefer subs, and I think a lot of that was cemented by the changes made to the dub of Sailor Moon. Once I discovered it was a Japanese cartoon, I had to get my hands on the Japanese version, and wow, it was different. Later on, Fushigi Yuugi was a dub I watched, and they would explain langauge changes, etc. So interesting, and I would have lost a lot of that if I'd been watching a dub.

As I've learned and studied Japanese, my preference for subs as langauge practice only cemented my preference.

If you don't read quickly or don't enjoy reading, though, I can see how subs would get very old very quickly.

My issue is text location. Putting it anywhere other than the bottom of the screen gets in the way, but when its down there and my attention is on the action in the middle of the screen, it often ends up being watch one or the other; I can't focus well on both. If the subtitles and dialogue are in the same language - such as in the Sam and Max games I'm currently playing through - it's not as big a deal, as the subs are mainly there for me to grab any words I missed or got muffled by sound effects/outside noise/people talking over Skype. When the languages are different though, it's much harder to follow.

I like having the text there, but I really really prefer having dialogue in English if at all possible. I don't watch a massive amount of anime though, and most of the dubs I have watched (off the top of my head: VHD: Bloodlust, Trigun, TTGL, FMA, and a handful of others) were either good or at least tolerable.

Link to make it easy.

Has anyone made a thread on the boards for this yet? If so, I can't find it, and I fear it will get overlooked here on the FAWTL thread

Unless a dub is ear-wrenchingly bad (and not all of them are, elitists), I prefer dubs. I don't mind reading, it's just that when I'm trying to focus on reading, I tend to miss action. Given that there are enough shows out there that do throw little details about, this is problematic as I have to rewind to see what was going on.

That said, I do have a few series I prefer sub to dub, so I am by no means a hater of either.

Liberty's Edge

I have not watched a dubbed anime (If I could any way avoid it) in years. Your reading speed increases and, I've found, I forget I'm even reading subtitles (it's kinda weird, but it's true).

Spoiler:
I'm starting to think there's some kind of requirement that with age comes unhappiness. The more I'm exposed to the world, the more I learn, the more I experience, the more unhappy I become. My emotional options seem limited more often than not to rage, exhaustion, or apathy.

Gaming and writing are about the only things I actually enjoy anymore. Escapism at its finest. I can forget, for a few hours at least, that the world with all its idiocy exists. I can spend my nights thinking about things I enjoy, go to bed and sleep (somewhat) well, but when morning comes and the real world returns down goes the happiness and up goes the temper.

Part of me wishes my world was still limited to the little town I grew up in and the cities within a three-hour drive. I'd lose all my online friends though, who are about the only things keeping me sane these days.

Also, I feel like people make up creepy sex stuff on Urban Dictionary that nobody would ever actually do. I mean, so much of it, you say to yourself, "Nope. No f#%@ing way."

There's a reason UD is on my list of websites of "nope never goin' there no matter what".

Never look up your own name on Urban Dictionary. It's worrisome.

There is at least one definition of "Gary" there that I wholeheartedly approve and endorse.

Forsooth Lord Derek now rides for the shores of Codfish Cape, thereto partake in a feast of bivalves fried crisp in oil! Yea verily it shall be a raucous time tomorrow, with much banter and feasting.
