Not everyone is as good a game designer as Jason Bulmahn. It can be confusing to figure out what's a fair, balanced mount option for the Samurai/Cavalier.
I'd like there to be a side bar or something to give some guidelines on what is balanced when. Large Cat animal companions are obviously powerful because of their Grab and Pounce abilities. Is there a level at which this is an appropriate and balanced mount? What about a Rhinoceros or Tyrannosaurus?

Ummm are you asking for a T-Rex Samurai mount?
This is hysterical.
By the way, how is the samurai going to do anything from the back of the T-rex except arch? He'd be so far away from the enemy.
Oh! I know he could use a musket! The samurai could use a little nerfing!
Where would you park a T-rex?
Can you imagine pulling into town to get a glass of whiskey and tying him up with the other horses?
Come back out after a few hours, thats funny, I swore everyone elses horse were out here when i came in, no one left, where did all the horses go??
Hey you! your mount ate my horse! I am dishonored! I challenge you to a duel!
Finally a way to make use of the Ronin challenge ability, just have your T-Rex eat all their horses!

It's an actual Druid animal companion. Like most of the things which should be gigantic, they start out medium and then get large.
Baby T-Rex is adorable and would make an excellent mount.
Ok so T-rex couldnt swallow the other samurais horses whole, but he would still eat them.

I would like see the mount options open up a little more, too. I love the Cavalier and expect to do the same for the Sammy, but for the mount being such a huge part of the character his choices seem a bit limited. I mean, the Cavalier is the roleplayer's warrior. He is more of a director than an actor if played and built correctly, so why not offer up a little more in the mount selection department. I would not want to see anything out of control like the T-Rex example above, but I would like to see a broader range of creatures. A bi-pedal, land bird of some sort would nice.

Yes, because no predatory animals can be trained not to eat any animal they see. Oh wait. Oh, and wait for it! THIS IS A FANTASY GAME! :)
