Gunslinger Discussion: Round 1

OK, apologies if this has already been covered but I couldn't see it anywhere. I am right in thinking that as a level 1 gunslinger you have the choice of starting with a musket and 50 shots, or you can have two pistols and suck up the ammo cost from your starting cash?

i believe the intent was you gain 50 shots no matter what and a musket or 2 pistols

There was a Dev post on this. It is exactly as written - you get a Musket and 50 shots ( 2000gp value) or 2 pistols (2000gp value) and have to buy your own ammo with the pistols from your starting funds.

How about 1 pistol and 50 shots?

Edit: Well, let's say 100 shots.

It's all based on monetary values... 1 pistol and 50 shots is about 1,500gp. A musket is about 1500gp. I'm sure your DM would probably be fine with taking 1 pistol, 50 shots, and 500gp.. it's all the same in the end.

I'm surprised the encumbrance issue hasn't gotten more attention. Most of the builds I've seen have a 10 Str gunslinger - which means that he'd be unable to even carrying his starting equipment without submitting to a medium load - before any other equipment. That, of course, is assuming bullets weigh the same as sling bullets, and that powder weighs at least 1 pound per 50 shots (which would be very low weight).
