I was wondering if anyone ever archived what they thought were the most typical and best character builds from one to twenty.
Also, a buddy of mine wants to play a cleric, starting out at fifth level in my game. He really wants to be able to get up into the front and fight, but is afraid that if he does so, he won't be good enough at either casting or fighting.
I suggested that he put his 20 in Strength and take the feats Weapon Focus, Power Attack, Furious Assault, and Cleave. Even though it will be quite a while until he gets a second attack, Cleave will give him a good shot at taking two, and sense the whole party constantly fights hasted, you might even get a 4th swing in.

I would very interested in seeing some builds from 1st to 20th level.

Over all a melee cleric will under preform at high end play. When compared to a casting cleric. After playing both I can say there both fun to play. But if your making a melee cleric your better off as a Orical of Battle. Not becous of the revelations are better then the domains. Becous more castings perday of the self buffing spells you will need. Power attack is a wast of a feet for a 3/4 BAB class unless your useing it for a entry in to cleave and Great Cleave. Two handed weapons are better over all. Mainly becous to make weapon and shield fighting work. It is now feet heavy. Two handed weapon fighting is not. That all being sayed casting cleric is much better after you get to level 11+. Untill you get there the melee cleric will do very well.

The effectiveness of a melee cleric will largely be measured in comparison to the party. Do you know what the other players are making?
The other players are playing monk, archer-ranger, summoner, Druid, & twf rogue. They have been playing for a while.
Also, they will get forced into retirement around 10th, to play the next generation of lackies sense 12 is this game worlds 20.

I normally end games around 8th. I'm going to let these guys keep playing until 10th or so because they are really into their characters and it is going to take me a couple months to wrap up the story.
The highest court wizards and warlords over hundreds of thousands in this game world are only 12th level.
Once the party has solidified their political positions, or died trying, I'm going to let them play a new batch that they can use to further their old character's aims.

The damage output of the party is so high you will relatively add little value. I would not make a melee cleric if you want to max your utility in that group. In fact, I would make a paladin instead (you have a druid for heals also).
That was my feeling, but on the other hand, if his damage HELPS he could still contribute with the occasional spell, buffs and whatnot.

In regards to the cleric, there is always the Holy Warrior substitution from the Pathfinder Campaign Setting. Just in case you don't have it,you give up both domains(and the domain spell per day) and get d10 HDs and a full base attack bonus. oh and you get weapon prof with deity's favored weapon, but you get that in PFRPG anyway
