Converting Draegoloth to pathfinder.

Conversions

I'm running a 3.5 campaign, players're about level 6 or 7, and since it's psionic I've been waiting for the pathfinder psionics to come out before converting over. Finally got it (YAY!) and now I need to convert my players over. Mostly pretty easy, since races and classes are now all covered, bar one. My draegoloth. He's running with the draegoloth from the savage species books, so he can play it from a lover level (I think total ECL is around 10) and increase in draegoloth-iness as he goes up levels.
As a general rule from what I've played of pathfinder the LA drops by one, and maybe gets a +2 to a stat. that sound about right? Anyone got a better idea?

Also, if a player character wants to take the advanced template from the back of the bestiary, what's the level adjustment for that? It says it's a +1CR, which kinda means a +1 level adjustment, or am I just misreading that?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

First off, I'm guessing you're referring to the Dreamscarred Press Psionics book? I know, off topic, but I want to ask since you brought it up.

Second, let me get back to you on the Draegoloth. I actually run the Realms in Pathfinder and have done a bunch of conversions myself. I don't know if I converted the Draegoloth or not. If not, it shouldn't take me long to see how to help you.

What you could do for the Draegoloth is take the drow or drow noble and add the half-fiend template, since thematically that is exactly what a Draegoloth is. I know it isn't exactly the same mechanically, but it's a quick, easy fix and the rules match the in-game explanation of the creature.

That's not a bad idea, idilippy! The only downside is that as the actual "monster" progression, the Draegoloth gets six levels of racial hit dice as opposed to none, and would die very quickly in theory.

But straight out thematically? Yeah...a drow/drow noble with the half-fiend template works very well!

It's worth noting that in PFRPG there are no Level Adjusts.

The Level Adjust system has many many problems, and doesn't work very well.

Paizo has not come up with a set of Monsters as Characters rules aside from statting out some specific non-level adjust monsters as races.

If you're going to do bigger monsters in PFRPG you really have a handful options.

1. Use the 3.5e system (LA) (IMO not a great idea).

Spoiler:
- Many monster abilities don't combine very well with classes, and therefore weaken the character in the long run.
- Giving the characters levels without skills, feats, or hp or saves is a big crippling point.

2. Go the 4e Route: Make an LA+0 stripped down version of the race.n
3. Use the Savage Species System
4. 2+3: Make an LA+0 Race, and a PrC to give them their abilities, kindof like in Savage Species. Make sure they get skills, feats, hp, and saves like in any other PrC. Let them take as many or as few PrC levels as they choose. This'll give you characters more on par with a standard character. Make the number of levels in the PrC roughly equal to the monster's CR, and adjust as needed. This is how I have done it with my players in the past, and it works out quite well.
5. 2+X: Like 4, but do up archetypes instead of racial levels. (works better for lower powered races) - Just allow the players to swap in racial abilities and extra stat increases for some other ability they'd regularly get for their class.

Here's a quick mockup of 4 -

Race

Spoiler:
+2Con
30ft. move
darkvis 60ft.
Immune to sleep spells and effects
+2vs. enchantment spells and effects
Languages: Abyssal, Elven, Undercommon; Bonus Languages: Aquan, Common, Draconic, Drow Sign, Gnome, Goblin, Kuo-toan.

Draegloth Racial Prestige Class:

Spoiler:
Hit Die: 1d8
BAB: As fighter.
Saves: All Good (see any PrC and use it's better save progression for all of them).
Skill Points: 6+Int Mod

Level 1:
2 claws 1d4, resistances (acid, 5 cold 5, electricity 5, fire 5), dancing lights 1/day

Level 2:
+2 Str, +1 natural armor, faerie fire 1/day, darkness 1/day

Level 3:
+2 Dex, darkness 2/day, bite 1d6

Level 4:
+2 Str, +2 Int, desecrate 1/day

Level 5:
+2 Con, resistances (acid 10, cold 10, electricity 10, fire 10), immunity to poison

Level 6:
+2 Str, darkness 3/day

Level 7:
+2 Str, +3 natural armor, unholy blight 1/day, 2 claws 1d6

Level 8:
+2 Dex, darkness 4/day

Level 9:
+2 Str, Large size, 10-ft. reach, bite 1d8

Level 10:
+2 Str, +5 natural armor, resistances (acid 20, cold 20, electricity 20, fire 20)

They get skills every level, and feats and regular stat increases every 4 levels, and feats every odd level, as usual. I'd line it up next to some base class builds and compare it to see if it needs to be spaces out over a few more levels or condensed into a few less.

What book is the half fiend template in?

It’s in Bestiary 1 (PRD link).

But if you want to make up a ‘proper’ draegloth, I would suggest getting Demons Revisited. It contains modifications to the half-fiend template appropriate to eight major kinds of demon, including the glabrezu which usually fathered draegloth; from there, all you have to do is make up a drow character with the right class levels and apply the template, and you’re away laughing. ;)

Awesome thanks for the tip
