Mayby my google fu is failing me or i shouldn't have tried reading the towers of midnight in one sitting again, but i can't seem to find the amulet/ring of non detection in pathfinder. Is it gone or did it go under a different name? It seems to me with detect magic being at will, anyone who wants to stay hidden almost needs one.

Are you referring to the Amulet of Proof Against Detection and Location? It mimicks the nondetection spell. Page 500 of the core rulebook.
This is true. Also true, the nondetection spell says nothing about blocking detect magic.
What might save the poor stealth character is the notion that you need line of sight to use detect magic on an opponent and the fact that you are currently hidden prevent this.

Technically true, but it does broadly mention "the detect spells" as being among the things it blocks, as well as other divination magics. So I'd say detect magic would be blocked, at least by the exact language of the spell. RAI, though, I'm not sure, because it does seem as if the spell is intended to block detection of people.
