Cavalier Multiclassing?

Advice

Is there any class that meshes well with a cavalier? I like the concept of the cavalier but I also want to be able to cast spells (and no I don't want to be a paladin, already played too many of those).

There's a prestige class that's specifically designed for cavalier/bards in the APG. Check out the Battle Herald.

Also, a cavalier dedicated to the Order of the Star meshes well with the cleric class. Your armor won't interfere with your spells, and you get a ton of buffs and whatnot.

A cavalier/druid might also be interesting. I don't recall off-hand, but I think that because druids get animal companions, the class levels would stack to determine the effectivness of your mount. You could play it as a type of faerie-knight character to fit in the nature worship thing.

I like the idea of the cavalier/druid and the cavalier/cleric. Thanks for the ideas.

Cavalier Paladin are almost made for each other... the noble Knight on its horse, king Arthur style ...

Ah, but he said well... ;D

Honestly paladin can do fine for a bit of a dip -- fighter works really well for a few level dip, as can ranger (especially for the feats + good will save).

IF you do dip out of cavalier take the Boon Companion feat to get you four of the levels you take out of cavalier back for your mount.

An Animal Domain Cleric can work well with cavalier too.

I like Cavalier/Alchemist....nothing like throwing bombs from horseback, especially if you name the steed "Enola Gay".

Attempting a Rogue/Cavalier atm, built to be something of an opportunist and intimidator. He's our Spymaster in the Kingmaker AP.

Cavalier/Inquisitor, but I really don't like multiclassing hard to catch back up.

The order of the chimera is built for cavalier/summoner

easy really.
a cavalier welcome dips - especially after the capstone of level 8 (order of the beast, sword etc top abilites.)

here are a few thoughts:

with Boon companion feat:
4 levels of Sohei make a super charger.
you gain :
saves (that are needed). flurry in light armor (mesh great with Emissary ), free mounted feats, adding Ki power to your mount (great! ) etc.
the low -1 bab price is not high.

2 levels of maneuver master monk - offer a free, no cost dirty trick when you full attack. if you like a mounted yet not charging build? it is right for you!

4 levels of hunter will add:
lvl 2 spells (reduce animal, carry companion), share all team feats with mount (pack flanking etc).

4 levels of druid, with shaping focus will add lvl 8 wild shapes , order of the beast will allow wild shape of mount as well!

Yeah I have a Cavalier/Hunter waiting to be used. It feels like a great way to make the most of teamwork feats, you always share them with your mount, both classes give bonus ones, and you can share with allies as the need arises rather than needing to do it to get your concept off the ground.

I generally advise all cavaliers to take at least 1-2 levels out of their class.

Their tactician ability is just SLIGHTLY out of sync with one of the best teamwork feats they could grant the party- coordinated charge. AKA- pseudo pounce for everyone involved as long as someone bites the bullet and does a regular charge (and look- you have such a nice horse- either to charge into battle with a lance on or to ahve bite the bullet alone while you get to move up to your opponent as an immediate action).

For just two levels, I suggest archaeologist bard. Decent saves, and it can be insanely front loaded (if you take fate's favored and lingering performance) so you hardly even miss those lost cavalier levels. Also encourages you to get the extra bit of CHA to make the most out of chain challenge.

Fairly easy to write off character wise too- none of that singing junk. Just taking some extracurricular classes to brush up on spells and being a daring adventurer.
