player looking for PBP pathfinder game

I would really like to be a part of a pathfinder play by post game. I haven't done it before, but am really interested. I am a graduate student so I have time to post frequently and keep up. Please let me know if anyone is looking for players. I have a tendency to prefer divine casters and actually really enjoy the healer role.

Liberty's Edge

I am also a player looking for a PBP game. It is nice to find someone who likes playing the healer. I usually get stuck playing the healer (in my tabletop rpgs) because the group is arcane or melee heavy but has no healers.

*raises hand*

Also adding a post to show interest.

I currently have a few PbP's on the simmer, along with a couple which have passed on.....*sniff*

Anywho, I currently have time on my hands and am free to create a character to help with any game that might be froth comming. (^_^)

Much cheers to every one

We are now three. We have enough for party if we can only find a DM. Maybe if one more person starts we should create a new thread labelled searching for a DM or something.

Dark Archive

i could be tempted to dm 1 more pbp.... what are you guys looking for?

Well, actually, since your self might be offering to take on the work load of marshaling our three fine amigo's I put the question back to you?

Is there, perhaps some adventures/modules you've always been intrigued by and might see fit to place them within Golarion?

Is/are there an Adventure Path which particularly tickles your fancy?

Follow my Avatar name back and peruse some of the other characters I have created for other games, perhaps something there may spark your creative Muse?

*bows*

I think you for your time and interest.

Dark Archive

on what i wish to play, well there is something on the back of my mind... if i ever get this sorted out

i sadly don't own any APs, though i would love to own any

now there are a few half-baked ideas to play on Golarion

i'm rather flexible on what game to be made...

Oddly enough I am pretty much open to whatever. I think setting it Golarian and keeping pretty close to the Pathfinder rules would be best for me because I don't have any real experience with 3.5 besides pathfinder.

I have been obsessed with the worlds largest dungeon or whatever.

Have you gm'd a play by post before Ulgualanoth? This is my first. If an is still in and once we figure out what we are doing we can throw up another recruitment thread and maybe get one or two more people. My guess would be more than five would be cumbersome.

Dark Archive

yes i have, a handful by now, i say my limit is 7 players, since pbps are slower than actual games, and more people in them means they move faster (most of the time), but yea 5 is a good number

I would love to get in on this if there's room. I'm heading to China for a year in a few weeks, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to persuade the other teachers to take up dice, so some manner of online play would be a suitable recourse.

Alright! YAY! Let's make it happen.

I would like to play an oracle or a cleric with a major emphasis on healing and buffing not really in the battle divine model.

What race options are you comfortable with Ulgulanoth? Could I go Aasimar?

If we're tossing out potential characters, I've got a bard in mind. A human or half-elf, possibly Taldan. He's generally a good guy, but is chiefly motivated by a love for the road. He likes to slum it up in backwater taverns even when he won't admit it. Possibly a minor noble, but he regards guile as the penultimate virture and likes to downplay his importance and utility. He may go to great lengths to get things done when others aren't around, but he'll take great pains to marginalize his accomplishments. In the end, he would prefer that others underestimate him.

I'd also really like to try out the witch class, but I haven't been able to formulate a solid character for it yet.

I have a character idea....but it's not even close to 'standard'....>_>

Still, more than happy to either write up the notes/ideas on how to work it or go with something slightly more 'normal'.

Cheers

Count me in if this is going to get off the ground. Would like to play a caster, most likely some kind of sorcerer.
Thanks!

Alright, if you don't feel it's going to be too caster heavy, I just got an idea for a witch I'd very much like to play. More likely than not a half-elf, and a native of Varisia (probably derived, in fact, from elven and Varisian human stock). He's very reserved and analytical, and believes in balance much the way old school druids do. He tends to take a diplomatic approach to most situations, and is fairly close to the natural world. Most of his skill would be cross-classed in order to get all of the social skills (diplomacy, bluff, sense motive), and on the battlefield, he'd favor spells that contribute in a less direct fashion. Lot's of buffs for the party, debuffs to the enemy, and battlefield control. A small degree of healing, but few if any spells that deal damage directly.

Dark Archive

thats cool, so shall we say; 20pt build, all core and APG classes, lv5, standard wealth by level, set in Varisia? races allowed would be core and any 0HD races from the bestiary (orc, goblin, tengu, ect), alignments: any except NE and CE

now, do you guys wish for a horror, action or mystery game?

My vote is for Action+Mystery. (^_^)

Will you be including the "Campaign Setting" as well?

Also, standard starting moneys for a 5th lvl character?

Much cheers

Dark Archive

oh yea, 2 traits, from the APG
as for "Campaign Setting" i'm not too sure what ya mean... if you mean rules from the Campaign Setting book, sure go ahead

for a lv5 its 10,500gp

If there is still room, would love to join in as well. I'm not new to pathfinder, but I am new to playing in Golarion, so don't mind if I act a bit clueless when you mention specific locations or organizations.

Edit: Are HPs maxed first then half +1 following levels?

Dark Archive

HP is max at first level, then rolled every level there after, re-roll 1s...

I'll try to get a character worked up sometime today.

I will have one up sometime tonight as well.

Working up character, hoping to have things sorted soon.

This is my first PBP game, so please forgive me for asking - where do we post our characters, and in what format?

Also, how much power gaming is usually assumed to take place on these boards? The witch I've got in mind has a 16 int, which I know would be fine in many games I've played in, but if I showed up to a living table at GenCon with that, I'd get laughed back to the exhibit hall.

Ah, and for witches/wizards, what's your policy on buying scrolls to add to your familiar/spellbook?

Is there room for one more player? I've got a rogue idea running around my head with no RL outlet.

You can create the new character through your Account'.

Try coming here:LINK

And asking for a walk through the process.

As for how cheesy/Munchkin....um....weeell....>_>

I think as long as the total CR of the character is at approximately level 5 (Myself erring on the side of caution) You should be okay.

Actually, I think I'm in good shape. I'd been erring on the side of caution and planning the character with the "standard fantasy" 15 points.

Good-O!

As I said, try that link and ask for a walk through if you're not sure how to create a character here.

To the folks who are just now looking to join up at this point I would say that ultimately decisions about who can join/jump in are up to our GM: Ulgulanoth.

Just for informations sake though let me list.

The party so far would be (I am just using the names people are posting under on here for the time being). Class notes are just based off what people through out not necessarily final at all.

Christopher Tomas - some sort of healer, probably an oracle
Sunset -
Martinaj - witch
Shodkavots - Sorcerer
Benoit Leblanc -
Xane -
Joe - rogue

Earlier the GM had mentioned seven people being max for him so I think if everyone in the list is interested we probably are okay. Sunset, Benoit, and Xane what sort of character are you all interested in playing?

Sorry, Sunset here, am going with Xane the big, boosted Fighter. Am building a heavy, strength based type of critter.

Sorry for the confuzzlement, we're still at six people. No need to count me twice...^^; .

Yay Melee is covered.

Rolling for hit dice:

4d8 + 8 ⇒ (5, 8, 5, 2) + 8 = 28

Are we using regional languages from the campaign setting?

Also rolling for HP

3d10 + 6 ⇒ (9, 7, 2) + 6 = 24

Awaits comment by DM on regional Languages

Not that my Fighter is going to be too clued up on whuts be proper speakin' wiff people.

Dark Archive

yes, but everyone starts with common, and a regional language of their choice

Martinaj here. My character is finished enough that if you care to view the profile, you should get a solid idea of what his capabilities are and what his role in a party would be. I still have to pick a feat, his last few languages, roll hit points, and then buy gear, but everything else is there.

Xane,

He said we take max at first level so wouldn't you have needed to roll 4d10 and add your ten from lvl 1 + con bonus/lvl + favored class bonus/lvl (if you went this way rather than skill)?

I could have done mine wrong though. I am just figuring this stuff out.

All,

I have my character up. I need to do equipment stuff and write a brief background story still.

This is [b}Tomas[/b]

Hey guys, well I'm undecided between a ranger and a bard, but looking at the group we only have one melee type and a number of casters, so I guess I'll go with ranger.

4d10 + 10 ⇒ (1, 7, 6, 2) + 10 = 26

How do you put an alias on your name?

Edit: rerolling the one 1d10 ⇒ 7

Dark Archive

Asara, Xane is playing with a level adjustment...

Benoit, go to your profile and click on the make new alias

Apologies for my ignorance, but I presume that you're all using some type of program to generate your hit points here? Could someone please explain to me how it's used? I'll also need to use that to make a few spellcraft checks to add spells to my familiar.

I am indeed taking a penalty, thank you for your concern Asara.

I also did forget to add the starting/first level HP...^^;

Dehrisan?

look to the bottom of the page, just under where the box for entering new posts is.

You should see a little sign saying

"BBCode tags you can use: [show]"

click on [show] and follow the instructions there. =)

Dark Archive

[dice] to start the tag [dice] to end the tag with / so [/dice with the last ] and place the number of dice, and die type, like 2d20 and bonuses/penalties afterwards, like 1d20 +3

1.5 the normal cost of the scroll to be instantly in your spell book, or you can take the chance for normal price....

Dark Archive

background for the game:
Harp Port is a small village on the coast of Varisia, situated on the island in the Varisian Gulf, between Spire of Laniriss and Gruankus. Harp Port is has always been a holy site for both native Varisians and Shoanti, build on the ruins of a long lost civilisation that pre-dated the Thassilonian Empire. Inscribed on huge rock monoliths lay a simple story, of a king who left his kingdom with his most trusted followers, to find enlightenment in a far off land. The unique thing about this tablet is that it has written on it the date for his return, 4 days from now, many have gathered to see if this old legend may actually be true…

Alright, can everyone include in their character’s background a reason for them to be in Harp Port?

Is there room for another first time PBP person? If not it's alright, just thought I would ask.

Dark Archive

yes there is

Yay! Do you have any suggestions on what type of character to play? I'm open to play anything the group needs and I can roll up a character once I get home from work tonight.

Dark Archive

well we have a healer, a fighter, a rogue and a caster, so you can make what ever you like

also for the person who wishes to play a ranger, undead will be common

ok, I'll post a character tonight when I get home then, thank you for the chance to play.

My hit points.

6+1, 4d6 + 5 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 5) + 5 = 20
