how were meta magic feats meant to work with word casting. are the meta words meant to be the equivalent to meta magic feats. and if they are doesn't that change the power in what ever way between normal casters and word casters. being as one has to take a feat for empower for example and the other would just use a spell slot or spell known.

Metamagic feats apply as normal. Words of power spells still occupy spell slots. After a spell is created, you adjust its final spell level based on the metamagic. If you spend, say, 7 points to build a spell, you have created a 2nd level spell. This would normally take up a 2nd level spell slot. If you wanted to apply the Quicken metamagic feat to it, it would still only have 7 points worth of words, but would have to be put in a 6th level spell slot. It's just the same as if I wanted to prepare a quickened glitterdust. Normally it's a second level spell (for a wizard), but quickened it is placed in a 6th level spell slot.
Saves, restrictions and such are all based on the unmodified spell (that is, prior to adding the metamagic).
The meta words are sort of like mini metamagic feats. They are basically there to help emulate some of the spell series that already exist in the Vancian system.
