Want to hear some ideas on building the Predator from the books/movies in a D&D setting.

I think the Astral Stalker in MM3 was an attempt at that, but it did not do enough damage for it's CR.

Item based or new monster?

Personally I think a PC classed up Bugbear with some magical gear could fit the bill.

Oh yes.
Full BAB, Improved Invisibility, land speed 40ft.
Strong, agile, stealthy.
Staff of Scorching Rays or Disintegration or something, depending on the level, with retributive strike. Can be used as a q-staff. Or some wristblades for sneak attacking.
Magical web to throw to entangle someone.

Nasty. :-)

Reminds me of the Master of the Hunt in one of the monster manuels.

I don't have the book in front of me, but I suspect that you could get a lot of what you need for a Predator (invisibility, energy blast, etc...) using the Warlock class rules.

Done and done by Michael Tresca who also did a great Aliens pdf:

I made a character based off of this idea a few months ago, using a Ranger/Totemist build and making an item form Weapons of Legacy, basically a mask that gave invisibility, darkvision, hide and move silent bonuses. The character actually died before I got to get very far into the Legacy item, but overall felt pretty solid.

As far as Pathfinder goes, just something that grants substantial Track bonuses, Stealth bonuses, Invisibility, etc.

If you don't mind sharing, I'd like to see what you had in mind for your Ranger/Totemist and the mask.
