One of our players is dropping out of the game due to RL commitments and I will be looking for a regular poster to replace him. The group are about half-way through the chapter on about 1,500 posts and somewhere mid-way to level 3. As one of my backup slots awarded is already in-game and Wander Weir's sellsword got into Naviors game afterwards, i'm open for submissions again. If you already have a submission previously made on the old thread, don't hesitate to resubmit.
The group's discussion thread is lurker friendly so feel free to chime in there or ask me and the group any questions you might have (or just do it here). Heres the link- Link
The game thread is here, providing an easy way to look at the characters already in play. The character leaving the game will be James Carmichael. Link
I'm looking for concepts rather than builds and character sheets. Your character will likely be another shipwreck survivor, separated from his or her crew on the island and fighting for survival.

Submission of a Superstitious Barbarian.
Mika, warrior of the Mwangi people was on a vision quest in the area when the Jenivere crashed. He desperately tried to help what victims he could, but he didn't have the skills to save them. He decided to follow the survivors in order to determine their dispositions to his people and ultimately decided that they should be approached.
I'll have more later, I just wanted to get a jump on this.

Aravan |

I submit, Kosil, Half-Orc inquisitor of Nethys.
Sent by his temple on a mission to discover a long lost source of magical power deep in the jungles. However the truth is, the mission is far more personal for Kosil. During his research and investigations before leaving he learned that his half-elf, half sister, had also journeyed deep into the jungles searching after magical knowledge.
Kosil's background reads like a complicated Days of Our Lives script. This is due to his father, the renowned anthropologist Asoreder of the Faces, who also happened to be a specialist transmuter. The author of 'Living with Mountain Orcs' and 'Elves in the Mist (my time living with the wild elves)'
Finally I should mention I do own a copy of the modules. I have flipped through them, so I know the basic plot, but I am good at not letting outside knowledge color my in game activities. I am one of the DM's for our pen and paper group and I do plan on running this series when our current adventure is finished in about 6-9 months. I understand if this is a problem for you though.

Alexander Kilcoyne wrote:Maptools. More details in my discussion thread. Thanks mate, I was just having a vicarious peek at the threads and thought I'd ask as the maps piqued my interest.
I'm not a particularily good mapper, but Maptools is good for that. A page or two back on the discussion thread i've linked the relevant places and tips I have for Maptools.

I would like to submit
Human Fighter
Background
Marcus was born to minor Taldane nobility, a old family with more pride than power. However, his own natural gifts and a bequest from an aged aunt allowed him to study at one of Oppara's most prestigious fighting schools and Marcus spent several years studying the Rondelero style of falcata and buckler.
A gifted, but somewhat unfocused student, Marcus found it difficult to avoid the heady temptations of the city. An illconsidered liason with a married woman followed by a few even more poorly thought out attempts to resolve the situation, led him to a duel with an enraged husband and superior swordsman. The duel was not to the death so it was a shock to the assembled onlookers when one of Marcus' ripostes took his opponent through the heart a few beats in. Truth be told it was a shock to Marcus himself. He simply could not recall willing the strike.
He was ejected from the school in disgrace and while not quite enstranged from his family he found after a time their disappointment impossible to bear.
He became a mercenary and, with his training, a good one and spent several years fighting his way up and down the nations of the Inner Sea for a variety of causes. The demands of mercenary life required a more pragmatic approach than he was used to and over time the spoilt noble became replaced by a more pragmatic reasoned man, albeit with a core of Taldane nobility and decency that never managed to quite wear away.
His last commission, as he realised almost immediately, was a huge mistake. An Aspis Consortium sponsored assault on one of the Shackles pirate communities near Quent. Poor leadership, poor supplies, an inside man (Marcus was sure) and after a few initially successful skirimishes, Marcus found himself surrounded by pirates and the dead bodies of his company. At that point he asked the pirates if they would possibly consider surrendering. Luckily, the opposing captain found his bravado amusing and rather than impaling him (or something similar) on the spot only made him fight three of his men for his life.
Again, when it counted, Marcus somehow managed to survive and became one of the 60 man crew of the Red Death, a schooner out of Drenchport. As a pirate, Marcus was a definite failure. He couldn't sail. He disliked being dirty. And feeding a boatload of innocent people to the sharks after taking all of their worldly possessions wasn't to his liking either. Unfortunately this wasn't a commission he could just walk away from. After a few months he became more and more desparate and determined that at the next landfall he was leaving piracy, one way or the other.
However, the Red Death didn't get that far. At sea the ship was attacked by sahaugin, the reptillian creatures swarming on to the ship in droves, killing the sentries and attacking the rest of the crew. After a fierce battle the creatures were finally repelled but with most of the crew dead and the ship damaged there was nothing to prevent the Red Death from running onto a reef and promptly sinking. Luckily, Marcus managed to lash a couple of pieces of wood together to form a makeshift raft and even more luckily managed to make nearby landfall on a nearby beach. Soaked and exhausted he gazed around at the desolate landscape. Perhaps being a pirate wasn't so bad after all.
Personality
Marcus has a dry, ascerbic wit but when it comes to combat acts like the professional fighter he is. He is most definately in most things for himself but often has difficulty supressing that inner voice that nags him to do good and make more of himself.
Ultimately he hopes to return home rich and respected and able to reconcile with his familiy.

Well insomnia strikes again so I figure I can do a more thorough write up of Kosil's background.
His father not the family type, and to be fair much more interested in finishing his latest book on wild pygmy jungle gnomes, turned the child over to an old friend who was a priest at a temple to Nethys. He was raised with human children most of whom were destined to become deft wielders of the arcane arts, but such was not the path for Kosil. While life was definitely better, it wasn't always easier, in some twist of ironic fate the other children learned of the nickname Tiny and somehow it once again seemed to stick with half-orc who now hulked over the rest of the children. Still, as children do he adjusted well to the kindly men and women of the priesthood who raised him like their own child.
The church of Nethys is no altruistic orphanage though, and his talents were quickly spotted. While most of the time the church prefers subtlety and magical manipulation even they realize at times brute force is required. He spent years training his swordwork, and learning simple blessings of Nethys, while also learning about arcane mysteries and what clues he should look for when hunting them down.
Finally he was presented with his first mission. It seems recent auguries and divinations had revealed something of importance was hidden in the jungles in the south. As an added incentive they happened to mention that his father had other children, and one such was a half elf sorceress who had traveled south a year ago in search of the source of these same omens. She has not been heard from in months and several other individuals who were sent have also disappeared.
Kosil leaves on a ship heading south in high spirits though he is wise enough to realize he is but a single die among many cast by the church of Nethys. However his hope to finally find someone he might be able to call family and his belief that powerful magics need to be funneled to the right hands makes him eager for the trip.
I imagine Kosil as the very rare brute force arm of the church of Nethys. Wearing a breastplate and using either a falchion or sword and board subtlety is not his strong suit. This is made up for by sheer force of will and stubbornness. His traumatic childhood left him remarkably unscathed, and once you get past his gruff exterior you find a humble young man seeking friends. One who sees the humor in his nickname Tiny, and can only roll his eyes and smile when asked about the exploits of his father.

I will submit:
Cristobal Cortes da Gama, human Cleric of Adabar (aka "The Mad Conquistador")
A figure bursts from the foliage and runs towards you at break neck speed. As he runs, he constantly checks over his shoulder as if expecting something to be chasing him. As he draws near to you, he glances forward and is completely startled by your presence. He tries to change direction, but trips on a vine, sending him into a head long tumble, crashing him to the ground at your feet.
The man appears completely disheveled. His clothes, armor and belongings are dirty and torn. His hair is long and unkempt and he sports a full beard. It is obvious that he hasn't bathed in quite some time.
His ripped tunic denotes him as a follower of Adabar but he appears a closer resemblance to a beggar.
Laying flat on his back, his eyes wide as he looks up at you, he opens his mouth to speak, "By the mercy of my lord... have you any rope? Rope would be fine indeed! I'll settle for some water, but rope would be fantastic! Any length will do..."
I thought I should put something down DM AK, as I am a long time lurker of your Kingmaker game and missed the chance to get into that game a short while back by delaying my submission too long. If you would consider Cristobal, I can flesh out his back story later today (I have to run out for a bit). I am available to post frequently every day.
Thanks in advance for your consideration!
Lord oKOyA (aka Eadric Cuthwulf)

Poshment Underhill |

Possibly a bit late but I'm going to submit, Poshment Underhill, Bard who's stats may need to be altered as you stated the group is on their way to 3rd level.
Poshment Underhill was brought up in the town of Pitax in The River Kingdoms. Being a free spirit as he was, was a bit of a problem. The self fashioned megalomaniac Irovetti grew angry with the gnome as he spread stories and sang songs about how his toes smelled and spreading the words that no one else dared say. He fled from the city due to the fear of this mad lord was going to chase after him. He wishes to find a place where he can be an aspiring writer or playwrite in a place that won't restrict the words that come out of his mouth. He decides to travel on this voyage in hopes of learning new stories and passing on old ones as well as paying for travel with entertainment by singing and telling these wonderful tales to everyone who comes aboard.
He seems wiley with eyes darting all over the place as he is unable to pay attention to anything. His green eyes reflect his personality as he always greets people with a smile no matter if it were a friend or foe. He's clean shaven and tries hard to make sure he looks presentable and clean.

I've already made my decision to be honest, so i'll spare you the effort BoggBear. Some of the posters here have the edge over you in that they applied last time round i'm afraid.
Poshment not a bad backstory but with an NPC bard and a PC archivist a Bard wouldn't fit the bill.
Aravan- Excellent concept but in all honesty i'm more comfortable running for players who aren't running the AP or too familiar with the plot- it only leads to me second-guessing myself far too much.
Dan E- Your in. Class choice works nicely with wat we have, I like the concept and your previous concepts, you seem to be a regular and the group seems to approve- please work with me either over MSN or in the discussion thread to work out details (keep it spoilered if we're doing it on the forum). Alexkilcoyne@hotmail.com
Lord Okoya I know your a regular poster and reliable, which is a big plus. You are our backup slot if that suits you? My games do seem to lose players lately :(.

therealthom |

Ditto that, Alex. Anyone who drops out of one of your games just isn't tempermentally suited to PbP. You do good work.
As long as I'm here do you mind if I jack this thread? For those of you who were not selected -- would you be interested in a one-shot through Children of the Void?
Since I'm literature-deficient, it would be core-only.

![]() |

@therealthom, I'd be interested in rolling up a character for a one-shot - I'm thinking a halfling barbarian (and much hijinx will immediately ensue). I restrained myself from posting in this recruitment because I figured that having the first two books would probably play against my being selected.

Aravan |

Well I am definitely in, I know nothing about Children of the Void but it seems to have a ton of great reviews. I am thinking druid or ranger right now, whichever would fit better with the rest of the group. I haven't gotten much farther than that to be honest. Once I get home from work I can think up something fun.

Thanks DM AK. I'll be happy to claim the backup slot. For the sake of your game and players I hope you don't need me, but if you do, I'll be happy to play in one of your games.
Dan E, I'm sure I don't have to tell you, but you will have a blast. DM AK's games are top notch all around! Glad you got a spot (finally) :) Congrats!
Cheers!
Edit: I will begin lurking in this PBP as well, in case I am needed. Do you mind if I dot the threads? Both Serpents and your Kingmaker? Thanks.
Edit #2: Now to get started... about 1500+ posts behind in Serpents. :)

Thanks for the generous offer, but unfortunately I'll have to pass at this time. My RL co-DM is possibly running Second Darkness for our group, so I don't want to to spoil it for myself.
For the others, I would highly recommend joining one of therealthom's games! Another fantastic DM here on the boards!
