Just voicing a thought I had when I was looking over the background and mechanics of the class. Now the Magus as I understand it is supposed to combine Arcan study along with martial training and it seems that it would make sence that diffrent magus's would focus on diffrent things (diffrent weapon combinations, some favoring the spell part slightly over the martial and vice versa etc). It also seems a bit odd giving them proficency with all weapons save exotic but then having a main ability that limits you to a particular set.
So what I was thinking was maybe introducing diffrent fighting styles in the same manner as a Ranger gets (ie feat chains that give you abilities for your chosen style) and perhaps take it a little further for instance one combat style gives you the spell combat ability another one gives you a diffrent ability for a two handed weapon etc.

Trying to figure out how to phrase this without sounding rude as not my intent.
Isn't that what feats are for? I mean if you want to be an archar magus, then take Pointblank shot, Rapid Shot, etc...
The Magus gets the ability to take fighter only feats and so can focus on what ever fighting style he wishes. Fighting styles dont need to be included as class features for every class as a base option. Feats cover that already.
I do like the idea of alternate class features/fighting styles and if done in the manner of the APG I can see it working but trying to work that in to the initial release might be a bit to much.

Darn, I am 5 days to late, and hear I was thinking I was smart and all. I will present my idea anyway:
I think we need a fighter that knows how to cast, and a caster that knows how to fight so everyone can have what they want. I think a good idea is to let the Magus have a choice of paths to follow kind of life the ranger. One path allows him to be more caster oriented, while the other allows him to be more fighter oriented.

As had been said, isn't that what feats are for? Most people right now are focused on Spell Combat and I should say the Fighty aspects of the Magus. What I have seen as much of is a Magus played where it steps back off the frontline and acts more caster like. Certainly in the early levels the difference between a Caster Magus and Melee Magus will be more pernoinced then at higher levels where things start to blend more.
Why are people so focused on Melee Magus? Because physical combat rocks the low levels, when magic rocks mid to late. So low level builds focuse feat choices on that aspect of the class.
I regret not being able to play test this exact idea last weekend in a live game. Spell Focus, Metamagic feats, item (scroll) crafting. Hopefully this weekend will be different.
