So I was reading over the playtest version of Summoner, and I really wonder--Was there ever any explaination as to why the Spell-Like Ability evolution doesn't exist in the printed version? Is it supposed to (I couldn't find APG errata)?
They don't give reasoning for all their changes, but I'd guess they deemed it too powerful if chosen correctly. If anyone can find a dev quote on it it would be a good link, but that's my strong suspicion.
No, it's not supposed to be there, they took it out.

I guess there were too many complaints about wish-granting eidolons. It's too bad. It was convenient for me to have an eidolon with Disguise Self following me around town without attracting any attention.
Oh well.
Take alter self as a known spell. It works wonders with a huge eidolon that has to walk through town. Just extend it (via rod) and cast it as often as needed.
Baring that a hat of disguise will likely work just as well as an eidolon's SLA if not better, and frees up evolutions.
It is a shame that they've more or less streamlined eidolons into brutes though.
