The Improved Savage grapple power states that you are treated as one size larger than you actually are for determination if you can or not grapple a foe.

That's certainly wrong, cause no such limitation exists anymore, at least I can't find it. Help?

You're right that it doesn't exist for grapple, but it's a part of grab.

Any word from a designer on what this class feature is supposed to actually do?

Wait. So my little halfling could attempt to grapple the tarrasque?

Yep.

As written all that part of Improved Savage grapple does is keep certain creatures from grappling you with Grab.

Well the APG errata came and went. No word on what this class feature is supposed to do.

I guess all brutal pugilists are meant to be druids too.

Liberty's Edge

Hmm, seems like an "oops" to me...

size bonus to grapple?

Liberty's Edge

That would make sense but as it's worded it doesn't do anything like that.

It looks like it was designed by someone with 3.5 on the brain.

I haven't looked at Druids yet, but IF you could gain access to Grab yourself, it becomes an offensive ability as well.

It´s great for Grab monsters with (5) Class Levels, letting them target bigger creatures (like PCs/Mounts/AnimalCompanions/Summons).
Given that Natural Attacks are available either as Rage Power or Half-Orc variant feature (not to mention other options), the Lockjaw spell also can give any Barbarian a Grab attack....
But still, I don´t think the Power is supposed to be that limited of use...
(negating DEX/attack penalties IS nice but again it just doesn´t feel right that the ability would have this other major function not usable by most PC Barbarians)

It´s too bad Errata is still so lacking, even stuff James/Jason SAID would be fixed months after the first printing is un-addressed... :-/

No, it wasn't. Theres not even a mention of it in errata (at least, not that I can see?)

Everything looks fine with this ability Improved Savage Grapple
Improved Savage Grapple (Ex): At 5th level, the brutal pugilist takes no penalties to Dexterity, attack rolls, and combat maneuver checks when she has the grappled condition. She also is treated as one size larger than her actual size when determining whether she can be grappled using the grab ability or swallowed by another creature. This ability replaces improved uncanny dodge.

So the Ability makes the Barbarian a good grappler (Less Penalties while grappling) and makes it much harder to be swallowed or grabed due to an effective increase in size (Grab and swallow normally work on Creatures 1 size less that the graber/swallower)

Its a defensive ability, it does not add to the size that can be grabed or swallowed.
