Skymetals

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Are there any mechanical stats on Skymetals? I've read up on them from PF 14, but that seems a little vague on possible mechanics.

I'm running a game that deals with the PCs exploring a "dungeon" that turns out to be an escape pod from the Silver Mount that crashed in western Osirion. I planned on throwing some skymetals in the place, but I would really like some stats for the different kinds.

Please help!

There will be in February when the revised World Guide: The Inner Sea campaign hardcover is out. Until then, what's in #14 is it.

Where's that at exactly? Was just looking around and can't find them are they in equipment or did they not make the cut (hopes they managed to stay in).

Noqual was pretty cool stuff. I still use it from time to time when I want an interesting piece of treasure for the players to hold on to.

+1. They seemed to miss the final cut for the Inner Sea World Guide. Any chance the skymetal info could be released as a blog post?

Alas, we ended up not having any room in the Inner Sea World Guide to put in any information at all about Noqual. I tried really hard to do so... and in the end, it basically came down to me making a Sophie's Choice between putting in rules for skymetals or rules for firearms. I chose firearms since they had a precedent for being in the book from the previous hardcover, and if they weren't in the new book, there'd have been a big outcry of rightfully disappointed folks.

The upcoming "Dungeons of Golarion" does have info for another skymetal, since one of the dungeons detailed in that book is all about a dungeon built by a crazy Numerian wizard.

And eventually, we'll get all of the skymetals detailed. Maybe just one at a time, or maybe all at once. At this point, though, I can't say for sure.

That would be an interesting blog post... and a big one. It's not fair to the editors to do giant blog posts that need a lot of editing, for one, at this time when we're scrambling to get things caught up and on schedule.

That, and the fact that the information was never written in the first place (I made the call to go with firearms instead of skymetal before writing either of those sections) and would have to be written from the start for over half the metals means that it won't be manifesting as a blog post any time soon.

Have you considered putting the skymetals in a Pathfinder Companion on the order of Adventurer's Armory? An all-in-one guide to crafting and special materials could be useful.

Darn it KAM, I always knew you were crazy like a fox...now you have me wondering just what should go into a companions book of this sort.

Hmm..

Artisans of Golarion anyone?

Good name. Even though it breaks the naming conventions, I like The Crafter's Kit.

Heck yes I like special materials a lot that sounds really nice for a player companion. I really like special materials.

If it included some way to reconcile crafting with the adventuring lifestyle, I'd buy it in a second. <insert obligatory cheap shot at crafting rules here>

Shadow Lodge

So did we finally get that mystical 3rd Skymetal in Dungeons of Golarion?

I'm not sure, but I wanted to throw my support behind "detail just one at a time". It makes each one so much more special, and they are far more likely to be reasonably balanced *and* useful.

Shadow Lodge

with you there though I will say I really want to see more of them then the ones we've been playing with since 3.5 and Noqual which is interesting but not nearly as tantalizing as what 2nd darkness hinted at (radioactive magic stone ala Mage Knights' Magestone anyone? or the time manipulating metal?). I have a very industrious dwarf craftsmen in one of my groups and I know he would chomp at the bit to find out even a hint of a few of these metals. Come to think of it his time oracle might take on an imperial army to get a shot at the time altering metal.

I know this is just a wee bit of necromancy, but I wanted to toss out there that while noqual is fairly useful, balanced doesn't really come to mind. It's really a crystalline mythril with some cold iron-esque properties to it that resist magic. The only real drawback is that making an armor out of it bumps up the spell failure percentage. Granted, it's supposed to be just slightly rarer than adamantine, I can understand it not having out-there, silly abilities.

Upon reading some of the entries, Abyssium/Feverstone sounds like radioactive material to me; I'm also really curious as to the power of the "holy grail" of skymetals, horacalcum. (More like orichalcum, am I right? :P)

At last, rules for all Skymetals can be found in the first book of the Shattered Star Adventure Path, Shards of Sin.

I do not have shattered star, so, does the AP cover all the skymetals? or in the contrary case Any new information about the skymetals?

The information on skymetals from Shattered Star will be reprinted in the Technology Guide.

Will there be release of new skymetals besides those awesome ones in Shattered Star?

Also, will there be options and such for those alloys to take different forms than how they're traditionally presented?
For instance, one character I'm currently running is a half-orc Oracle who uses a Djezit alloy falchion that he stole from the Foundry of Belkzen. We treat it as a masterwork Falchion that has a hardness of steel and is a Greater Rod of Extend. Enchanting it costs similarly to Cold Iron.

Will you have options for Skymetal like that? I'd love to see what an Adamantium Shield could do, both for Damage Reduction and damage.

There'll only be the same seven skymetals, but Iron Gods (not the Tech Guide) will periodically introduce new alloys and the like.

Wow, this has been going on for a while!

I take it that the Tech Guide is referencing this
