| Gerad |
Gerad scowls slightly. "I know my way around the tablelands. This area I don't know so well, but I'm a quick study. If you want someone to shoot a bow or stab a blade, I can do both as well as most soft city dwellers."
Gerad is my character submission. I'm happy to wait and see who else puts one in, since he's a bit rough at the moment.

Gerad head over to the dicussion thread and read up the story background and we can get you into the the intro combat that's going on right now.

Thanks Xabulba :-)
Another concept

All right my RL has settled down enough to start up group 2 of my 4e Dark Sun game.
Scranford as promised you have a spot if you want.
Radavel and Rev Rosey (or Rev Rosey jr.) also have spots. I have spots for 3 or 4 more players.
thanks for remembering me...but I let my subscriptions to Character Builder etc lapse due to lack of use...and wouldn't attempt this without that. Guess I'm just going to skip 4th edition. Especially since it seems Wizards is not supporting it real well anymore either. Good luck with the game though...and I'll see you in the funny papers :).

Hiya Mordencranst (yay for my son the devourer :D).
Looks like the following lineup at the moment:
Celestial - psion
Rad - fighty type
Mordencranst - rogue (probably)
Me - warlock of some yet to be determined kind. Vestige or Sorcerer King probably.Leader lite, but otherwise feasible.
I actually squeezed into group 1.

I haven't played a PbP in years, but if you still have room. I am dying to play Dark Sun. I run a DS game, only because if I don't I won't get to play in the sands of Athas. Our group's other GM ONLY runs FR or Eberron, the two game worlds I like the least. I will fill any role needed, doesn't matter to me.

I was wondering how this would work. In some ways, playing the weapon breakage rules without the inherent bonuses would arguably make it less likely that anyone would make an item, since you could invest hard-earned cash creating it and roll a 1 on your first attack. And I'm not too sure what exactly is meant by "options other than combat" for getting magical items. From what I've read, Dark Sun is supposed to be fairly low-magic so making it so characters have to create their own items sort of runs against that - the DM can't control the flow in the same way, and items would be a bit less special if they are made to order like a suit. Could you explain what you are trying to achieve? Thanks.

The way I see it is on Athas there would be very little permanent magic items but consumable items wouldn't be that rare.
Nobody would enchant a weapon as a whole for the reason you stated above but they would enchant a hilt of a sword or axe, leather wrapping on a staff and so on. So if you break a magic sword's blade in combat you just need to replace the blade and your magic weapon would be whole again. It’s the same principle that allows a magic bow to pass on its magic effects to a non magical arrow. As long as the hilt is whole it passes its magic to the blade attached. I also want the group to actively seek out more powerful magic items not only because you want them but because you need them to survive. With the inherent bonus system the group doesn’t have any reason to explore or take risks to gain a power bonus they just have to make it to the next level.
