Serpentine Base Form's usefulness

Advice

I want to try it out but honest to god I can't think of a good idea to make it work. First thing that comes to mind is to make is a grapple machine enhanced with evolutions such as: Grab, Constrict, Swallow Whole, etc... But that is all CMB based and the serpentine's strength is only a 12 base. So it's bonus is going to be mediocre to poor until like 8th level when you can make it large, then it would be about average-decent by then. As opposed to a Biped base form who could do the same thing and be much more effective at it.

Anyways, anybody got any bright idea on what to do with this base form?

EDIT: I forgot, it would only work on creatures who are smaller than itself. So definetley would be ineffective at low levels.

I might be remember things wrong, or it might be different now in the APG, but doesn't the serpentine form have a higher starting Dex? Why not have it get the Agile Maneuvers feat if you want to go with Combat Maneuver based attacks?

Just double checked, it should have a 16 starting Dex unless the APG is differnt.
Swallow Whole is a higher level ability, so likely not to happen until you are large anyways.

The Grab/Constrict are good, and only 4 evolution points to get it. With a reaching bite, it can seriously dominate any of those small creatures you find at low levels (goblin, kobold, any number of animals, small elementals, gnomes and halflings, etc).

Another option ready from 1st level is pulling. Since it has a 10' reach bite, it can pull a target closer into it's tail slap. This is good against creatures trying to use reach against it too. It also helps so that it doesn't necessarily have to move as far to get it's full attack in, considering it has only 20' movement.

That's about all that's unique to the serpentine form, other than maybe adding a stinger to the tail, but I'm not sure if that means you can sting and slap in the same round.. not needing an extra limb for an extra attack.

Yeah I was thinking using Push/Pull, plus Grab/Constrict to control my battlefield a bit. Maybe take Weapon Finesse (bite) to use the high DEX. Or add like 4 tentacles and Weapon Finesse (tentacles) to really go to town.

Does anybody know if an eidolons base forms can be changed later? I'd love to start with serpentine or quadruped, and then later switch to biped. Also, is there an effective way to create an ooze form? I've always wanted a gelatinous cube as a familiar/companion.

Base Forms cannot be changed :(

And no, there's no real way to make an Ooze Eidolon unless you ignore the mechanics of bite attacks (which are piercing, slashing, and bludgeoning by rule, which makes no sense for a reflavored pseudopod). If you can handwave that, though, a Serpentine base form Eidolon can make a decent ooze. The bite and tail slap are just heftier pseudopods.

I don't know, it could always have internal crystalline bits for the slashing and piecing parts. Maybe some metal or stone shards it couldn't digest? Or those sharp parts are collections of undigestbale matter that are eventually passed out of it. Excrement that is also used in digestion (I just disgusted myself). After all it wouldn't be a true ooze (creature type) but an outsider so some abnormal parts that could make it into a more nightmarish creature.

A slush/ice ooze outsider? Mostly liquid but can form 'frozen' solid parts.

Like I said, if you can handwave the bite mechanics, Serpentine works for oozes.

Maybe add a pair of arms (or multiple pairs of arms) and make it an archer?

You could go with the Agile Maneuvers feat, replacing Dex for Str on CMB checks, building on the Serpentine's higher Dex rating.

what do you do with the serpentine base form? Why, make your own pet Yuan-Ti, of course! :)

It would go well with the Serpentine Sorcerer bloodline. lol

*facepalm*

I forgot about the Agile Maneuvers feat. Silly me.
