It's hard to pick a profession that involves history that won't see you either spending your entire life pulling your hair and/or bored to tears. I'm thinking English might be the way to go instead, but it never hurts to have perspective. Still not sure what I'm going to do with myself. :\

there may be other ways to go. there's a lot of history in other social sciences...you could try to think how you could sneak a lot of relevent history into another area of study. :)

I feel your pain. I've been beating my head against the wall with the lady on this whole returning to school thing. Being unemployed for a year and having her just picked up a full-time job offer after doing several years of contract work and picked up a certificate to add to her B.S., I pretty much have to do something to show activity. It's just that nothing resonates to me as to an actual study that pays the bills in the corporate environment. I totally dig comparative religion and philosophy, but I don't see myself pursing an academia career or a desire to teach. So I figure I can go through the steps for a Associates of Science degree and then maybe something will click as to what I may want to do (or appeal to me). *shrugs*

I need to make sure I can test out of certain courses because I will seriously bang my head against a wall for being stuck in things I consider to be remedial even if they're easy grades.

That sounds a lot like some of my friends. They struggle with certain aspects of their academic career because they don't stay in practice with them (namely Math and English Comp). Math is my bane.

It wouldn't hurt to pick a direction for classes and slip in some religion or philosophy. I have taken mostly social science classes at this point because of my previously intended direction. It's kind of a love hate relationship with those classes though, for me at least.

Who is the appropriate teacher is another important thing to find out too. I took philosophy and world religion with one teacher and ethics with another. I'm glad I did, because I don't think that I'd have enjoyed the ethics class as much from the philosophy teacher. Mr. Philosophy's head was always in the clouds, Mr. Ethics feet were firmly on the ground. Interesting dichotomy, but one that helped me immensely.

Slipping in religion and/or philosophy is the main reason why I'm considering a catholic liberal arts college to transfer to after completing the reqs for an associates of science. I've already checked and there's a transfer program between the catholic university and the community college. I've thought about straight distance learning, but unfortunately I feel that a lot of places are still of the mindset that they prefer to see your accreditation from a school that actually has the means for you to attend in person. I'm looking to do a combo of online and in-class. I'm hoping to also take advantage of grants available for the hearing impaired.

That is a hard choice to make. I have always wanted to be a prof. but life seems to get in the way.

But it is true. A history degree is pretty much going to be useful only for being a History professor.

English is good as it incorporates more than just literature. I spent some time as an English major and I was very happy with it. I later traded in for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, which is where the attempted path to professor came into it. But I would highly recommend English as a major.

I know how that goes. I'm a bit of a late bloomer myself. Some of us just take a little longer to figure things out. :)

Overall I can't say a lot of good about English as a major since I bailed from that particular track and have been much happier since. But if that's what works for you and it's something you're passionate about then that's great and you'll probably have a much different experience than I did.
I'm more about being direct and to the point. This is why I like science. Writing pages and pages about opinions had me pulling my hair out in frustration.

I chose computer science and engineering because I had very broad interests (art, music, literature, physics, chemistry, math...) and figured the one thing computer programming would do is give me broad subjects to touch on, and many industries where I would be useful. I also have to admit I chose it in high school out of a desire for a lucrative field...but I've found I'd rather do something I enjoy than be rich. Sure, bank dbas make tons of money - I couldn't be happy doing that for any length of time however. So I ended up in web programming. Good interest for my creative side as well as my overly literal analytic side. Good enough. :)

I originally went for programming and information services 20 years ago. Could I possibly do programming and/or database management? I have the logic / architectural tenacity to pull it off? Yes. I'm just not sure if I want to make a career out of it. *shrug* My g/f is pushing me to go into that direction. I don't mind picking up some elements of web programming, but I have no desire to deal with the graphics design of it. I fail miserably when it comes to putting together visual aesthetics.

I've given thought to technical writing or underwriting, but again - same thing. Right now, I figure I just need to put the money where the mouth is and at least produce something instead of remaining in my current stagnant rut. At the least, it looks good for the resume.

So, you don't have to take cholesterol meds, or are you just choosing to not take it? Make sure I'm reading you correctly.

I am choosing not to take the cholesterol meds, though the doc wants me to take them. I don't know why since my cholesterol is good.

Ah, okay. As far as I'm aware, as long as you keep the LDLs (bad) under 130, you should be good. But I thought the good cholesterols (HDLs) have to be at least 50 or higher? Only other thing I don't see you've mentioned in your cholesterol profile are your Triglycerides. What did you get there? My good and bad cholesterols were normal, but it was my tris that were high and caused me to be on meds for that in the past.

The HDL's should rise as you continue to exercise regularly.

Just returned from a midnight jaunt to 7-11 for milk, bananas, soda, and heat peanuts. In a snowstorm. Good thing there weren't many people out and about. My car was not a happy camper, and I'm an experienced snow driver. Oh, for my VW Golf! There was a goer in the snower.

If they only had a gunner in the backseat(or at least ion turret facing aft and locked down), the entire first movie might have ended quite differently.

It's weird- I have NO problem with diapers and the like- I love changing babies, they look up at me so confused, and then look so adorably comfortable afterwards.
