The use of vital strike?

Rules Questions

I just want to konw a little thing, is it possible to use a vital strike attack against monsters that are not sneakable (like elementals)? Because, in the desdription of the vital strike, there is nothing that say that it's not possible. What do you thing about that?
Thanks!

It's just because of the name "VITAL" strike ;-D

Because it's "vital" you don't miss with your one strike;p

No, it's because you need to be real vital to hit that hard. Real Doppelherz like.

Yes, you can. It is just the name of the feat. It could also be called "a single, but big strike", which technically it is, but it would sound less cool.

could also be called "it would really suck to roll low with this one attack and miss completely for the whole round"

Stupendous Strike

would be way cooler than Vital Strike, which is sort of a misnomer.

The fact that it doesn't actually double your damage but rather doubles your dice and can't be combined with charge makes it only borderline useful in situations where you are not too far from the target and have no cleave worthy group near.

Hey, my rouge dwarf loves hitting from shadows with a great axe for 2d12+6d6 damage. :D plus its great for feinting.

Yes, it's good for the opening round where you have to move as well as attack, for attacking with feint, or for when you have a heavy crossbow.
