So if you add the returning ability to a shield, would you need to pay 8000g for a +1 weapon bonus and then 6000 for the returning or would it fall under the armor bonus?

if you can use 3.5 material there is an awesome +1 shield enhancement called ranged, in Magic Item Compendium. it makes a buckler or light shield deal a d6, or a heavy shield a d8, gives it a 30ft range increment, add str and shield enhancement to damage and gives the shield the returning property for only a +1 bonus!!!! thats effectively half of a bashing shield ability and throwing and returning and only ends up costing 4000g (+1 shield + +1 enhancement bonus).

but other wise, you have to enchant the shield as a weapon so it would cost 8000g

also from 3.5 PHB2 had a shield sling feat that let you throw shilds and make ranged trips with them.

Don't you add the returning and +1 bonus abilities to the spikes insetad? And treat the armor bonus separately?

Either way, imaginning the thing in a pathfinder game just makes my guts grumble in pain :p.

In the Adventurers armory you pay 50g and can throw your shield to a range increment of 20' and you can trip with it.

If you threw your shield it wouldnt hit with the spikes unless the spikes were placed on the edges of the shield.

still, if you gan use that enhancement, its half the cost of the weapon enhancement. it gives returning, but its cheaper than normal returning since its a shield enhancement

Our group doesnt use 3.5 stuff just pathfinder

No, it would be enchanted as a weapon.

Here is the bits from the Adventurers Armory

Quote:

Throwing shield +50 gp; 1d4/1d6; x2 20 ft. Bludgeoning trip

This shield is designed for throwing and comes with specially designed straps allowing you to unclasp and throw it as a free action. Tower shields cannot be throwing shields. Neither a shield’s enhancement bonus to AC nor its shield spikes apply to your attack or damage rolls.[/url]

I built Captain America out of a Warblade/Bloodstorm Blade and Superior Unarmed Strike with a Bashing Adamantine Shield. He was pretty awesome, all things considered. One of these days, I'd like to play him for reals.

There's good advice above, but unless I'm missing something, it would be 18000gp.

+1, *throwing*, returning. You can't add returning to a melee weapon - have to add throwing to make it ranged.

you can add it to a throwing shield, no problem.
