Whats my threat range??

Ok, so, lvl 6 fighter, with Lunge feat....

What is the area that I threaten? 5 foot still? or 10 foot? The text from Lunge states:

Lunge (Combat)
You can strike foes that would normally be out of reach.

Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +6.

Benefit: You can increase the reach of your melee attacks by 5 feet until the end of your turn by taking a –2 penalty to your AC until your next turn. You must decide to use this ability before any attacks are made.

In essence, can I am an AoO at 10 feet if I have the lunge feat?

What if I have a "reach" weapon, and I have lunge....can I do it at 15'?

I guess I'm trying to build a fighter that has lunge, a reach weapon, and combat reflexes to get anyone that comes close to him. How possible is that?

You your threaten everything 5'-10' away but not adjacent squares. It's a pretty good route to go.

The bolded part should answer the AoO question. You can't. Lunge's reach bonus is gone at the end of your turn so you wouldn't be able to get an AoO with Reach using Lunge.

That said, Lunge with a Reach weapon would be 15ft (but adjacent foes would still be out of range).

If someone managed to provoke an AoO during your turn, you could use Lunge to make the AoO. However, that is pretty unlikely. A wizard with a readied action to cast while 10 feet away from you, or a foe that you tripped who provoked because of Greater Trip would do it.

But most of the time, Lunge does not help you get more AoOs.

You are right, Lunge is only active during your turn. That makes a lot more sense.

a bit of a side questions. When do you have to invoke the Lunge Feat.

At the beginning of your turn?

During a full attack could I make one or two attacks then kick in Lunge and finish my remaining attacks?

You'd have to use it before your attacks. However, if you aren't using a reach weapon you can still hit opponents adjacent to you but you also get the reach if you are hitting others who are not.

Could you ready your action, announce the lunge, then wait, and when dude waltzes in to your expanded 10 foot range lay down some whuppin?

Sure you can. That is, of course, entirely different; a readied action readies an entire standard action which is significantly more active than just taking a quick reactionary AoO swipe at someone who lets their guard down.

Q:Whats my threat range??''

Thank you.

Now, in a similar vein...What about using a whip? It specifically states that a whip doesn't allow you to threaten into any area in which you can reach, in theory meaning that I don't threaten anyone, ever, when wielding a whip.

Is that because it does not do lethal damage to most creatures?

If so, what if I was wielding a Scorpion-tail whip, capable of hitting for 1d4?

And then, if I threaten now because the whip does lethal damage, would I also threaten for AoO with such a whip?

Thanks for your help.
