You're a gamer. You like to talk about gaming. Hell, you probably love telling other people about your gaming. Why not be constructive about it for once?
The Psychology Department at Middle Tennessee State University is conducting a Gamer Survey to determine how gaming and social development interact. Pitch in your two cents and pass it to anyone else that may be interested!
It's about time we told people that not all gamers are anti-social hermits . . . and the rest of them totally are. :-)

Did it.

did it...
I took statistics in college... who ever designed that survey needs an F.
the questions are leading
the questions are not reworded to verify results
the tone of the survey suggests preconceived ideas
very poorly designed survey.
Had I turned in a survey like that I would have been laughed out of the class.

It's just a matter of opinion. Krome pretty much summarized it. You can look at it harmlessly and make the decision yourself.

Started filling out the survey, but aborted it as I cannot complete it honestly and accurately. The number of hours I spend on gaming related pursuits each week varies too much for me to give an accurate estimate let alone a figure; I have absolutely no idea how much money I have spent on gaming since I began gaming (like 20 years ago) – I can’t even begin to estimate this; and I can’t give an exact number of friends that I have – um, more than I can easily count?

The friends question threw me too. I have colleagues who eat dinner at my house sometimes. I have students who send repeated 'Facebook friend' requests. I have former colleagues who I visit with sometimes. What about my PbPs. Some of those guys I've never met, but feel quite close to. I can't draw the line between friends, people I like who like me, and acquaintances. Not 'exactly'.

Yeah, asking questions about things that have occurred throughout your life are not a good idea. I'm 31 years old, I played video games on a Commodore 64 and an Atari 2600 when I was 6 years old.
With Mothman as well. Since the questions referred to gaming in general as console gaming and computer gaming as well, does the $1300 I spent on a computer count as a gaming expenditure because I use it mostly for gaming. I just put $10,000 in the block, figuring that sounds good, but I have no idea how much I've spent on consoles (Super Nintendo, N64, PS2, PS3, Wii), PC games (including stints on EW, WOW, etc.), collectible miniature games, collectible card games, and RPGs which I've been doing since I was 15.
$10,000 was probably low.

"35. I prefer my gaming life to my actual life."
I was okay with it up to this point. Is it assuming we all live distinct double lives or have multiple personalities or something? I agree with the above. that survey could not have possibly told them anything relevent about gaming and social impact. On the upside, I appreciate the ones at the psych office a little more now in terms of quality of survey.
and for the how much have you spent question? I put 15000$ and I think I was underestimating somewhat. over the 15 or so years i've been playing? I've spent at least 1000 on just magic over the last year, at least that much again on warhammer...ya, 15 seems about right.

Right on. Adding to the confusion, all of the questions are worded as if all gaming aquaintances are automatically "friends," implying that they use a very loose definition of the term, in turn implying that an exact count is impossible -- then they turn around and demand an exact number of friends. WTF?!

Agreed... I actually used the facebook friends plus 20% as it seemed nearly right. I purge my personal facebook regularly with people that contact has ceased with for a long while. I honestly put $5000 for the money I've spent gaming for the last 15 years. when you add up computer games, tabletop, and pdfs, that's not a lot. Especially if you buy games new (the price stays at about $50 and has for the last decade IMO).

The money part was the fun part for me -- trying to add up 1E, 2E and 3E books, then add the mags, then add modules, and then dice etc., then Pathfinder Stuff.
But... I didn't add D&D novels -- oops(?), not sure if I was suppose to.

I wouldn't worry too much about the survey, though -- Middle Tennessee State ain't exactly known for its research or publications. No one will take the survey too seriously.

Where is "Board Games" on your list? I stopped when I realized that is not even on your list.
